I want to make a digging box for my bunnies and I wondered do I just fill the box up with shredded newspaper?  They love their room I set up all the cages I have and borrowed a couple and I put toys and whatever in each cage and leave the door open so when I let them out of their exercise pen they can jump in and out of the cages and play.  I notice one loves to dig so I want to make a good size place that he can dig in and keep busy.  Things are going well with us and the bunnies and our cat.  Last night Snowflake came over while I was laying on the floor and licked my chin, I was delighted they seem to be happy and they both lick my hubby’s hands all the time when he pats them.  I think they are happy in our home.  I still can’t believe how much I enjoy both of them.  I can’t imagine not having them around

Getting bunny licks is one of the biggest compliments you can receive from one of our furry friends! Buns are addictive and they can multiple really quick if you dont set a limit. We got one and now after 6yrs we have 4. I would have a housefull if I could!

You can set up a digging box two different ways. You can take a box big enough for them both to fit, set it up like a litter box so it has no top but does have sides and cut out an area for them to get in and fill with ripped up newspaper. I wouldn’t shred it like in an electric shredder because that may take some of the fun out of it for them. Also consider putting in empty TP rolls or empty paper towel rolls in there for them to chew/shred or toss around.

You could also do the same but use an entire box and then just cut a hole big enough so they can both get in/out and then they will have a little hiding spot while they dig/chew.

Buns LOVE cardboard..most of them do anyways. So I would definitely make the box out of cardboard and see how that works.

A great idea some do is throw their junk mail in there that is on normal white paper (dont put the slick colored stuff in there) and then you dont have to worry about shredding your credit card offers and whatnot.

Let us know how this goes. If this doesnt work we can come up with something else.

Meco has two boxes. One smallish one in her cage filled with newspaper, which she hides in (occasionally burying herself in the newspaper). For that one, we don’t have a door on it, she just hops over the top – but it’s about 4 inches tall + the flaps. (It’s in a 3 sided corner, so we cut one of the four flaps off but left the other three on so she would feel all “concealed” and “stealthy” which she totally loves. Of course, in the middle of the living room floor there is a large box that we got christmas gifts delivered in. I cut a door in that one and built a few walls with spare pieces of cardboard. The intention being that she would have a bit of a maze. We hung bits of newspaper like in the Jellyfish (A name I cannot get behind since I hate Jellyfish). I think she’s been in it two or three times.

I made two boxes and they have been digging for a half an hour and jumping around the room.  The cardboard boxes seem to be a real hit and they are more active then they have ever been.  They came out and ran around for awhile now they are back in tearing the papaer and chewng on the cardboard.  It worked out great, next I will hang strips from the top of the crate so they can play with those.  They are rubbing their chins on the boxed I guess they are marking them for their own.

for my Max’s diggy box, i just put whole sections of the sunday paper, lay them perfectly flat and VOILA… within a couple days we have perfectly shredded newspaper… i tried pre-shredding paper before and i think they were confused by it more than anything… like WHO shredded my newspaper?
