I have a 3 month old rabbit and i was told to give my rabbit Timothy hay and a handful of pelletes twice a day. I also switched to a different pellet and it says that there is no need to give any hay to my rabbit since it will provide what he needs. The one I’m currently using for my rabbit says that it is a Timothy diet. Please help someone.

          Hi Maria
          Welcome to the forum!

Hay is absolutely essential for pet rabbits. It’s the most important part of their diet. It keeps their teeth in check as they continually grow. And it keeps the gastro-intestinal tract functioning at optimum. You can read more about diet here.

Pellets were originally developed as a “complete feed” for rabbit growers. It was a neat way to provide their needs when you had a herd and optimised their growth. Some brands of bulk pellets may still recommend that is all the food that is needed. However, this is not true for pet rabbits.

Is the current pellets he has alfalfa based?
