So a few weeks ago my fiance and I acquired a very cute little rex bunny we named Eli. I read a TON of information regarding owning a rabbit before hand so I was pretty prepared. The guy we got him from gave us a huge glass aquarium for free, but I know that wasn’t a very appropriate living space for a bunny. So a week and a half later I built him a new cage using a guide to create one of those big wire crate cages… it’s huge! It doesn’t have the multiple levels yet, but it will as soon as a find the materials.
We had been trying to litter train him in the mean time. Of course he didn’t start using his box right away… except for peeing in it. He pretty much seemed to understand to only pee in there. How convenient. It took him about two days to start pooping in it too. After awhile he seemed pretty intent on only doing his business in his litter box. When I moved him over to his new cage he started pooping all over it, because it was a new territory and everything, but then figured out what was going on pretty quickly. I assumed it would be good for him to get his cage smelling like him, and with work and stuff we didn’t have time to clean out his cage right away… so… he did it for us? He put all his poop into the litter box and then just continued to use it. Like he cleaned it all up for us. Has anyone seen this before? I thought it was kind of cute. It made cleaning his cage pretty easy.
Also, it’s been super hot lately, so he’s been sitting in his water dish a lot and laying around it to keep cool. Would he benefit from a fan blowing on him? Or would that be something that bothers him?
We also have a cat,named Mogwai, and the two get along really well? I’ve had multiple animals for a REALLY long time and I’ve never seen two animals just be okay with each other right away. Granted, we didn’t allow interaction between the two of them for about a week after we got him. And the kitty likes to bat and pounce on the bunny, who doesn’t seem to be bothered by this. If things get to intense though we poke the cat and he backs off. But otherwise I don’t let the bunny run around unsupervised, so I don’t think it should be a big deal. I also do this because I don’t want him chewing on cords and furniture.
I guess I didn’t think I’d get so attached to a rabbit, but he’s a lot of fun and really cute and friendly. Are they always so easy going on stuff? Or did we get really super lucky?
