My Chocolate Pumpkin Rex rabbit is 1 yro and we call him Choco. His been doing well and good health but for the past two months he has been having diarrhea and sometimes it clumps up on his bottom and gotta get him cleaned. What should we feed him to get him back in good shape or help him feel better. I clean his cage every other day to keep room smelling good and keep Choco healthy from his diarrhea. Does anyone know what might be going on with his diet or health.

Has he seen a rabbit savvy vet for their opinion? There is a reason he’s having it, and it’s probably an infection in his gut. He should be on strict hay and some veggies until it firms up. Does it happen everyday or what? Then you can slowly add veggies back in but one type at a time to see if one veggie causes it, but that’s if he doesn’t have an infection. Treatment and diet will depend on what the vet says.

You say it clumps? Do you mean he’s having excess cecals? True diarrhea means it’s basically completely watery and there are no solids with it. This is very important to be aware of as true diarrhea is a vet emergency and can be very fatal in a bunny.

Is he overweight at all? Rex rabbits have a tendency to put on weight.

What should we feed him to get him back in good shape or help him feel better.

              What’s his typical daily diet?

I agree, it sounds more like cecal dysbiosis.

It may be his diet. Are you feeding him any veggies or have you changed his diet at all? My bunny Effie kept on having diarrhea and I realized it was because of a pinecones she had in her cage. After removing it she had no more diarrhea, so it may be something in her cage.

Yea, he has it every day. So I’m gonna contact a vet but will stop feeding him snacks and vegi. Just the grass for now. Thank you
