I got the BB maze for Xmas.  I’ve had it set up in front of their normal condo.  They have free access to the living room at all time, but they have to go through the maze to get to their condo.  My cats cannot fit through the maze openings (3 are too fat, one is…well she doesn’t care that much).  I noticed that their condo floor where the litterboxes are kept started to get really gross.  I believe there has been a great deal of pottying outside of their litterbox and specifcially from the entrance of the condo to the maze.

Now they started a MAJOR shed.  There’s hair & poop everywhere.  They’ve even started to chew on the maze.  I think tonight I will be temporarily taking down the maze at least until this evil shed is over.  The bunny area has become such a freaking mess…..am I a bad bunny mama?

OH yes shedding time yikes.  Perhaps you can fit a litterbox where they are pottying.   They are stakeing their claim on it. They must love the maze.

Your not a bad bunny mama If it helps you stay calm, I’d agree that taking the Maze out for a bit. You could always give them something simpler to play in for the time being, like a cardboard box with some holes cut out.

Unfortunately the spot where they have been pottying is more like a strip than an actual area.  Knowing Leo he’s probably hanging his butt over the edge of his box and letting it go.  I put the maze up and they have not been coming out as often.  I swear Jessica was cursing me as I broke it down.  Maybe I just needed a maze break, since it blocks my viewpoint of their litterboxes and I think that meant I only cleaned them every 3 days instead of 2.  But the freakin’ fur has been outrageous!!!!  I accidently plucked a bald spot into Jessica.  Just a mess!!!

Bunnytowne:  what is it you use…a comb?

This exact thing was happening to another member. Maze at condo entrance, territorial peeing I think. Can’t recall who…?

Edit: LOL! Ok, so that was you!  Found the old thread – thought it all sounded familiar!

I guess it is territorial peeing…you’re right.  I guess I don’t understand who they are being territorial about.  They never used their front door as a potty, so I couldn’t understand why they would start that w/ the maze being there.  I guess it was just their way of saying that they REALLY LOVE their maze.

They’re marking it as part of a sibling ‘argument’.  “It’s mine!”  “No, it’s MINE!”

I watched my two do this over a dropped graham cracker.

Yep.  Both of them came to blows over who would eat it, both of them pissed on it to prove it was theirs, and I ended up with a pissy, soggy graham cracker that neither of them wanted after they urinated on it!  They have done this to salt licks, potato chips, bowls of lettuce, and my husband.

And don’t worry about being a good mother.  Nobody obsesses over this with their actual teenage children, which can be like living with a band of chimpanzees, so don’t worry over the bunnies.  The bunnies will actuall get over their messy destructive phase before most teenagers do!

That makes sense….I’m assuming that this is just something in their natural programming rather than sex related, since they are both “speutered.”  But I can totally see him peeing into the new hay bin, saying this is my hay bin.  He’s just turned into such a little dirty pig.  I feel bad for my little princess Jessica having to tolerate all his mess.

Hahahaha, I was laughing out loud at this and scared my two bunnies in the room into binkying back into their cage!

I built my bunnies a really nice wooden house to put in their cage once and they did the same thing. They were both marking the top floor and I came home one day to an absolutely MONDO pile of poops on the top floor. So I thought I would outsmart them and put a litter box on the top floor. So they then decided to push the litterbox down the stairs to the next floor and effectively blocked themselves up on the top floor, thus leading to them pooping all over the top floor again. So eventually I had to line each floor with linoleum.
