Jasper is getting very very destructive, its almost becoming impossible to let him out of is pen. He’s constantly trying to chew on electrical cords, on my clothes and the couches. Will most of that be fixed by a neuter?

          Short answer, most likely.
How old is he and how long have you had him?

He’s almost 4 months. I got him on the 18th of october. I asked my vet and she said most bunnies get neutered at 6 months.

Oh yeah, his hormones are raging. Congratulations, you have a grumpy teenager! Once you get him fixed, he will probably still be all hormonal for a few weeks until his hormones have a chance to settle.

While the neuter will help your Emo-Bun, you will also need to be more aware of your rabbit proofing where he is going to be allowed to be free. Every Rabbit family has different “limits” about where their buns are allowed. I have to free roamers who typically stay in the bedroom ( because I have carpets in here for them and they don’t Love the hardwood floors) BUT they will venture out.

This week Coco decided to have a wander in the living room where she found an unattended cell phone charger. Chomp. Last Chirstmas, My daughter was trying her new laptop in my room – Chomp…that computer cord gone.

While I have cord protectors on 99.7% of the cords in the house, You can be assured that her rabbit senses go all tingley when she senses an uncovered cord.

Really, it is up to the humans in the house to cover our cords and not let things lay on the floor looking like roots to be cleared. Other folks here have rabbit proofed X-Pens of glorious make and model.

So while his chewing may lessen, it may never stop. It may be His “Thing” and you will have to provide things he likes to chew on. The other thing I have found is when they are bored, they get really fiesty. It is how they tell me that their current configuration doesn’t do it for them and I need to make some new configurations/add new toys or obstacles.

Have you offerred him a diggy box or other ways to work out that pent up hormonal energy? A timothy bungalow to desttroy?

Or a big telephone book to rip to shreds? May I also suggest the Maze Haven from this site. Felony doesn’t really ‘play’ with ‘toys’ but we LOOOVES his haven.

Yes, hormones and generally teen bun activeness could be the main reasons and it may lessen with neutering. Most likely will. Do be aware though that it may be his play style too. So finding things he’s allowed to rip into will keep him occupied and hopefully away from things you don’t want destroyed.

                      This.

I figure Im the one with the big brain and the opposable thumbs.  If I leave it where it can get chewed on, its kind of my fault if she chews it.
