I got Binny almost a month ago and was initially worried that he may be developing stasis or something but got him started on a healthier diet and he seemed to be doing better.  I got him from a good (though uneducated) home.  They had to give him up because she was pregnant and something about him really bothered her in her hormonal state.  So since I lost Trixie a few months ago I said I would take him because I already had everything ready for a bun.  Well the shedding seems to have slowed, he’s still pooping regularly and such but I feel like he’s not eating as much as he was.  I have him in a bunny condo with his old cage attached and he recently discovered that there are levels to the new cage. Now he pretty much just stays on the top level and doesn’t come down.  Not even for veggies and food!  If I put his veggies on the top floor by him he’ll eat them but I’ve noticed when I put his veggies on the bottom floor they’re usually still there when I get home and he doesn’t eat much of his pellets at all. I didn’t change pellets when I got him but I did start feeding him vegetables.  Do you think he’s just getting too full on the veggies because they’re new and tasty?  Should I reduce his veggie intake?  I’m just worried now a) because I always worry about the bunny, and b) because he just stays in his cage and doesn’t come out and doesn’t eat much.  I’m wondering if he has finally realized that his other people aren’t coming to get him and that has made him sad.  I’m not worried about stasis since he doesn’t seem to be in any pain and he is pooping and peeing (though fewer poops) I just don’t know what the heck is going on with him!

        Thoughts?

Also here is a picture of him in his favorite spot.

          Poor little guy!

Best I can tell you is that he misses his old friends.

He might not be use to the new pellets – if you know what he ate before you can mix them and ween him off the “bad stuff”. What about hay? is he eating that?

I’m sure you will get some more advice soon.

I didn’t change his pellets. His hay and pellets are the same as they were when I got him. I want to move him to healthier pellet soon but I want to get him adjusted to his new space first.

This happens, espcecially when buns get into big awesome condos or pens. He is probably just very confortable up there. My buns love being up high, and they’ll stay there (in their maze) all day long. You can try just giving him his veggies on the top floor everyday, that not really a big deal. Or compromise, put them on the middle floor, somewhere where he can see them to entice him back down. Does he still go up and down to use the litterbox? Does he let you take him out of the condo, does he ever venture out on his own when the door is open? Some of what you may be seeing too… bunnies are most active early morning and late evening. I believe you are in school, right? So you probably cannot observe him too much early morning. When you get home, that is right in the middle of his “downtime”. Depending on how late you stay up, you might be missing his active period again.

Binny seems to be eating better and now that he’s used to the bunny condo he doesn’t spend quite so much time in it. His pellets were gone this morning and he’s acting much more active. Maybe he just had a little gas or something.

                I’m just such an alarmist.
