I borrowed a dehydrator and I was wondering instead of using the oven, could i use the dehydrator for making cookies? Some of the bunny shops on Etsy state they dehydrator their cookies so I thought I could try. The highest temp is 158 F and the ingredients I would use would be hay, pellets, fruits and veggies as well as some oat for binding.

does any one have recipes using the dehydrator? I would like to avoid adding honey or other sweeteners. Thanks!

Heres a recipe I used awhile back:)
          – 2 ripe bananas
          – 1 apple or 1 c applesauce
          – 1-2 carrots
          – 1/2 c oats
          – 1/2 c rabbit pellets
          – 1 c whole wheat flour

Blend all ingredients into a thick paste. Roll out the dough onto parchment to about 1/4 inch. Leave in dehydrator for 3-5 hours on the jerky setting.

I have made bunny cookies and dried them in a dehydrator instead of baking them. They need to be dry through and through or they will get moldy.

Thank you Pwincess for the recipe and Bam for the advice. I will definitely make sure they are dry all the way :).

I thought you were never supposed to give oats to bunnies?

Oats are to be considered a treat. They can be helpful for buns that have trouble keeping weight on, f ex aging buns or buns that have been ill and need fattening up. Oats are generally well tolerated by the rabbit gut.

Rabbits are foliovores though, their GI system has adapted to a very skinny, low calorie diet consisting mainly of grass (hay is grass). Too much sugars and starch, as in oats and other cereal, is not good for them.
