Okay, after seeing Karla’s totally wonderful house, I wondered what our other members decorating and design style is.
How would you describe your home or bedroom? Traditional, contemporary, modern, or I don’t know my rabbit does my decorating for me ![]()
Mine seems to be modelled on the principles of Bun Shui.
Seriously though, how my place is decorated (if I can even call it that) is far from what I would call my style or anything like my favoured styles. It a hotch potch of acquired stuff.
I’m attracted to Modern Country style, fairly simplistic with a touch of the rustic. I love looking at Home Interiors!
Mine is more of a minimalist meets a Coin Op laundry explosion with a little tipped over garbage container for color.
Pictures, you guys, pictures!
I think this could be a really fun thread, but I’d really love if you would post pictures. I can show pictures of my old apartment, because that is more my style. I have to compromise all the time in our current place, because my boyfriend owns it and 3/4 of the furniture was there already. My personal style is a mix between Arabian 1001 nights and hmm modern (and very colourful) scandinavian style, I would call it.
LOL @ Mark
uummm…. I cannot afford style :p Well I cannot afford to re-furnish my house, but I would say my decorating style would be Antique and then bold/modern. Yes a bit of skip there.
My master bedroom is all 50’s oak furnashings, and my Dining room set as well, i want to move that theme into my living room. But the den i am finishing this month is bright pastel green with a dark purple feature wall, dark floor and white trim. I will be doing the entertainment room once it’s done in a Burnt Orange and Cranberry with dark furnashings.
So, i’m all over the map… :p
I’m totally minimalist but I live with a collector…
Lol my style is if I can afford it I buy it! I prefer “Modern” or “Industrial” styles. But mine right now is all mixed up none of my furniture other than my living room match and it is more country from my family giving me stuff. For instance I hate stripes and flowers and that is what my living room looks like LOL.
Once I can afford it and can move out of this town I plan to completely overhaul all of my furniture and ‘style’ to what I like.

My photos are from last year. But not a whole lot has changed really. This is just my living room though. I love my furnishings – they were a gift from my mother, she used to be a designer and worked at a very nice store that is now closed down and she’s since retired. But we went shopping and she gifted me my living room. I was terribly lucky because I could not have afforded this quality of furniture on my own.
I have since found a home for that ottoman thing by my chair and ottoman.
Mine seems to be… exercise pens and NIC grids.
… but when I get a house, that sure as heck will be changing. I love color, and I sooo need more storage so I can hide the piles of crap we have around. I am NOT going to take pics lol.
I love it, Sarita. It looks like a room where you just feel completely relaxed when you walk in. The chair and the couch look so amazingly soft and comfy…by they way, nice mom you have!
I love you have a fireplace. Do you use it often?
Mine consists of a mess, boxes everywhere, Hugo and his things and my girls and their things. LOL
Thank you Karla. I am grateful to my mom for purchasing this for me. It’s kind of bits and pieces from the store she worked at, but she as usual made it work. The one piece by the chair and ottoman was from my Dad – it’s a cool piece but I’ve had to glue the leg on and I did a crappy job of that but I love it anyway.
I have never ever used the fireplace unfortunately. But I like having it.
These are pictures from our last place, which is completely my style
Bedroom: (there used to be persian rugs on the floor, but somebunny chewed them). I loved this style, but it wasn’t good for my allergy with all the fabrics and the dust. The bunnies had their cage on the other side of the bed, so it required A LOT of cleaning.

My living room – my boyfriend asked if I could please not bring in my “bedroom style” to the rooms where we had guests, so this is another part of my personality: colours!

And the world’s smallest dinning room

Wow, you need to have a show on HGTV Karla. I love everything. I love the mix of different furniture and the classy splash of color with the rug. I’d love to eat in that dining room as well.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that, but I didn’t know the word for it, so I didn’t
It looks really expensive. I love when people can bring in different things and make a nice looking room out of it and create an atmosphere. I always just go to Ikea haha, because I am so terribly stingy.
I want to make an Ikea trip… fill my subaru with goodies hehe
There is no IKEA here… but this is my place:
my house

my guest house

my living room
my home gym with personal trainer
my couch (very organic)
my kitchen
Love your decorating style Petzy LOL and it’s cool that you have your own personal trainer :~)
Petzy do you have the same mode of transportation I do?

Nice… We are by a lake so it’s mostly by kayak. ~
(I can’t believe I turned another one of Sarita’s threads into a Canadian clichee)
Sarita: I invite you to Canada! We have style!
We have style AND Maple Syrup!
Karla, I want to steal your house! PLEASE???!!!
Well, I don’t know what my style is. I like weird things. I love color. So, I guess Modern and Funky?
When the house sells, my dad and I will be going nutso at IKEA.
I plan to buy photographs of bunnies online to hang in my room.. and yes, some photos of the princess!

Sarita, that was a lovely gift from your mother. I was expecting walls lined with bunny cages.
Petzy, ROFLMAO as usual.
Karla, I LOVE your canope bedroom and flowing style.
My style seems to have ended up with two shades of wood in the main pieces, either light pine or dark cherry. The dark woods are only in my bedroom. After years of wanting a 4 poster bed, I ended up falling in love with a sleigh bed of cherry wood. It’s heavy, but I got a pretty secretary desk to match and added a few accents. But the pine is throughout the rest, with quite a few large pillows. I just started stacking and covering pillows years ago, and while I now put them on the couch and chairs, I still recover them by hand just to change my mood every few years. At the moment I am in a nautical period, so they all have sailboats on them. Not neat enough for pix at the moment.
style? I was supposed to pick a style? lol my “style” is “it was free/cheap and its functional”, we dont own really anything decorative, anything we do have thats “decorative” is actually there for a functional purpose..some wall covering for example which is only there because it was cheap, easy to install, and of a material that prevents Jenny from chewing the wall. the area rugs all over were on clearence for $10..they are there for Ladybug, she has bad hips and the rugs are for traction when she walks. the only thing I can think of thats particualrly decorative is the wall hanging my mom and I made many years ago and the one fish tank my mom made up to look pretty.
I hear you, Jenny, style in my house was very much determined by my puppies at one time. Even now that they are grown-up and better-behaved, just their size determines indoor decor choices… my one dog likes to push furniture around for example, she will push an entire couch. The other one will jump over top of furniture when he gets very happy… and so I got rid of some of the stuff I had because it was in the dogs’ way. Space is my favorite furniture! And then there are crates and gates for blocking access, like to screen doors that need to be protected from rabbt teeth and dog paws… which is hard to make look nice. So I tend to choose functional, heavy-duty, or second-hand/cheap so it won’t matter if it breaks.
Karla, love the bedspead, love the sofa. I wish my lounge suite wasn’t patterned. I like solid colour & texture more than pattern, like yours and Sarita’s. I got mine over 10 years ago and it’s held up well but I’m over it. I can’t just replace it though as other things takes financial priority. Maybe I’ll commision RabbitPam to make me some hand-sewn covers!
I like this topic
My style is… hmm…. contemporary yet understated, if that makes sense. I like modern pieces, but I don’t buy anything too “out there” since I know I’ll get sick of it after a while. I like bright colors in terms of bedspreads, decorating, and artwork, but I prefer more subdued colors for the actual furniture and I’d pick dark woods like cherry, mahogany, walnut over light woods any day. (The only exception to that is for beach houses, there I LOVE white wicker furniture). I like everything to be coordinated and matching.
I also have very expensive taste. However, I’m still in college and don’t have the income to fund my decorating preferences, so right now, my apartment is not decorated the way that I eventually want to live. ![]()
