Can’t believe it’s December already. It sure feels like it here, though. -23 windchill today and yesterday.

Been feeling pretty down lately. My horse is lame. I think she has laminitis again which is a potentially devastating inflammation inside the hooves. She had it once before a few years ago and was okay, so I’m hoping that’s the case again. She’s on stall rest (and is very angry about it) and meds. I want all my fur-babies happy and healthy for Christmas.

I can’t believe it’s December. It can’t be. It really can’t be. I have so much to do in the next few weeks, like get in all my PhD applications, revise the first chapter of my thesis, not to mention grading final exams. Ugh. I quit.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words about the passing of Lil Buns. It’s unbelievable that these animals can work our way into our hearts so quickly. I still wish I had a second chance to make things right and I still feel like I let her down, but I know she’s peaceful now and that’s ok. Here’s the last picture I took… snuggled on my chest nice and warm. 

In other news, when I went to bury Lil Buns near Tofu’s grave) which is in a secluded part of our apartment complex next to a retention pond) I was upset to find that not only was Tofu’s rabbit headstone gone, something had dug up his grave and devoured his remains (sorry folks, no easier way to put that). My heart dropped into my stomach when I saw the big hole and the blanket I buried him in behind it. I gathered up what was left the best I could, dug the hole even deeper and buried lil buns and tofu together. I JUMPED on the grave hoping to impact the dirt better. A lot of people walk their dogs out there and let them off the leash (even though we have a dog park!) and I saw evidence of domestic dog scat so I’m thinking someone was just careless. Still upsetting none the less. I told my neighbor and she promised she would keep an eye on it for me. 

on to MUCH happier news! Finn gets to come home with me for Christmas and we barely have any accidents around the house anymore! He picked a spot on the porch to pee (YES!) so I stuck a litter box there and he is more than happy to hop out there when he’s out to do his business. In fact, he will sit on the porch all day. he loves it! and my neighbors love seeing him. He’s quickly becoming a neighborhood celebrity 

I might be biased, but I think he’s the most handsome buns in the whole world <3

So I was browsing Binky bunny and I could feel eyes on me… I look back, and BOOM there’s Finn just chilling on the back of the couch. He hasn’t shown any interest in being around me so it was very cool that he was willing to sit there and get pets. We’re bonding a little more every day!

oh! And I finally saw my boyfriend’s brother’s rabbit, Blue, for the first time since becoming a rabbit owner. She’s so tiny compared to Finn! She’s adorable though, but very territorial. You can’t sit on the couch if she’s on it or she’ll dig and bite you. She loves getting nose pets, and Eric (brother) can pick her up and smoosh her and rub her all over his face and she’s perfectly happy. 

He found her on a tennis court in Miami about 7 years ago. Not even close to Easter! I’m glad he picked her up. She’s a house rabbit but she hates tile so he makes little runs for her all over the house with towels and rugs.

Any idea what kind of rabbit she is?

I’m not up to date at all about Lil Buns. So sorry Zoologist.
Also sorry to hear about Tofu’s resting place. That would be upsetting to find. Do you think adding something to the soil or around the site might deter dogs?

We used to dump cayenne pepper into empty turtle nests to deter raccoons, so I may have to try that with their resting place. To get into the possibly gory details I buried lil buns at the bottom and put Tofu on top, i’m hoping the smell of Tofu will deter anything from digging it up.
Lil Buns was a rabbit I picked up on Tuesday who had been let loose by her previous owners. She was skin and bones, very listless, and very cold. She made it a little over 24 hours before she lost her battle. It’s amazing that I only knew her for that short of time but even thinking about her brings tears to my eyes and a heaviness to my heart.

Oh god, I just realized it was December. This is horrifying.

But I LOVE Christmas time! I think the boyfriend and I are going to be putting up our Christmas tree tomorrow!

I’m so sorry about all of that, Zoologist. I’m glad little buns had you there at the end and so sorry about Tofu. That’s awful. I would probably have bawled my eyes out if I saw that.

Hi everyone. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been on here in a while. Well if you call 2 days a while (compared to used to be on here everyday for several hours).

Just thought I’d pop in and say everyone here is fine. I’m still a klutz injuring myself constantly but still moving. I’m probably not going to be around this month on BB that much because of finals, the holidays, and dum dum dum THE WEDDING. I know it sounds bad but I can’t wait until it’s over and I can go back to relaxing, sorta.

But I do have something up my sleeve that I will post in the Lounge by the end of the weekend!

She’s blind!!?!?! Oh no! Poor baby! But at least she’ll have a good home with you! You’ll be able to give her a good happy life. And she’ll have been used to your voice and life from the beginning so that will probably make her less stressed out as she grows. <3 Awww, NikitaSue. I'm so happy you're such a good person and not just getting rid of her or doing the awful things people do with rabbits they don't want/don't think are good enough. I'm so happy she's with you. Any names for the baby bun?!

thanks tan lover =) I feel like a terrible owner though. I mean she’s 11 weeks old and I’m just now noticing that she can’t see me. I’ve held her and played with her millions of times. I’m gonna save up money and get her to vet and I’m praying that maybe it’s reversible.

But my next questions would be how am i gonna bond her to thumper? thump is a big boy and idk if he would be gentle. and how do i litter train her? can i litter train her? how do you care for a blind rabbit? I mean i’ve had a blind cat before but i think this would be a lot different. It all makes sense now though. Why i haven’t be able to litter train her. Why she can’t use levels. Why she didn’t get enough food as a baby. Why she was always the last to learn everything.

tanlover – Yeah, I don’t know. I joked and told my husband he could anchor the carpet behind the baseboards. It’s indoor/outdoor carpet. It’s thin and super flexible.

Nikita – Don’t beat yourself up about it. It isn’t like it would be something expected. What about a litter box with a cut out side so she can easily step in? I would think that smell would help her locate the appropriate place to go.

Today I got my (First) debit card in the mail, and I may or may not spend a good bit of my money on the BB store for the bunnies for Christmas. In my defense, I’m buying extras of what I buy for Duchess and Nala, for the rabbits at the shelter where I adopted them!  At least there’s only 4 other rabbits I’m getting for.

Poor little runty bun, but atleast she is with you where she will be loved and cared for. You’ll just have to focus on her other senses, some aromatic herbs in her salads etc. Cutting down a litter box is a great idea (LBJ) maybe get some textured matts to lay out a run for her to the litter tray and sleeping area. Clicker training is still possible.

So sorry to hear she’s blind Like Roberta said, focus on her other senses. I agree the smell of the litter box may be able to guide her where to go. I know you can give her a great home though very difficult to find someone who would understand and make those accommodations

Can’t believe it’s almost Christmas! We just put up our lights outside last night and I decorated my room/Mimzy’s cage! Made sure she can’t get to the lights though. And in the process of making Mimzy a stocking! Hopefully it comes out well hehe. So excited for her first Christmas ^-^

And lately I’ve been looking for a little stuffed animal of a bunny for Mimzy to see if she liked it & wanted to cuddle/groom it. My boyfriend thought he would surprise me by taking me to build-a-bear to get her one made there. Such a cute thought! Good news is that she started grooming it, bad news is I found out the stuffy sheds a lot I tried brushing it out to get anything loose off but it just keeps shedding! Is this bad for her? I know they can’t digest well so I’m thinking I may need to take it away Which would really be a bummer because I don’t want it to seem like I don’t appreciate what my boyfriend did. I was waiting to find a really good one that was safe for her but I don’t know if this one is it =/

So I got a Destination Weddings “magazine” in the mail the other day. This is the second one I have received, the previous one came about a month ago. I’ve been reading all about these destination wedding places. Only problem is that I’ve been married for 6 years. Heh.

Awe the blind bunny.  Well she can hear you and hear footsteps coming towards her so she can hear you coming and not be afraid.

I am so excited.  Been wanting a 4G phone for a while now.  The co I am with has a great sale over tomorrow.  I was going to wait til feb to get one but I cannot resist this sale.

200.00 off.   That means 1 phone is 180   another one is 150.   I got the 350.00 phone for 150.00   I doubt I will see another sale like this in feb.

I love the phone.  I do all kinds of things with it. I have gotten used to using a phone instead of pinky laptop.  this one is so easy to use.

I have never paid over 100.00 for a phone b4.  I tell you this 350.00 phone for 200 off is tops. I love it.  You can hear very very clear when you get a call or make a call.  Does all sorts of things. 

Been playing with it for 2 days now.  lol.   Got my ringtones set up. Got my stuff transferred from my 2G card to the 8G card that I get a 15.00 rebate on.  Oh and it comes with the usual a car charger and cover.   I told the man I already have some car chargers.  I been in there a lot and bought phones in august. 3G phones.   So he gave me a headset which I like to have an extra one for my purse and living room.  He also gave me one of those writing things to type at and make designs with.

I am loving this phone.  And metro and t mobile merged or are merging.  Great prices the same with both companies and more towers thats great.

zoologist: That’s awful about Tofu! I guess some people just don’t care what their pets are up to. Hopefully it will be left alone now.

tanlover: You gotta try sushi, it’s great! You can start with something easy, like California Rolls. It’s just crab meat and avocado, no raw fish or anything like that.

Awww, don’t feel bad NikitaSue. You really shouldn’t. It’s not like she can tell you or there’s any physical signs you could’ve noticed. It’s only something you can notice over time with watching them in their surroundings. And when there babies, you have no idea what is going to be “normal” for that bun. It’s completely okay (and not surprising) that you didn’t notice until now! Like kids, it’s harder to realize things like this until they begin to grow and socialize and what not! But now you know and can help her to the best of your abilities!

BunnyDaddy — that’s always exciting! And I bet those shelter buns are going to be EXTREMELY thankful!

HippyHop — Clicker training is actually insanely easy to teach a bun. When I was having HORRENDOUS litter box habits with my boy Fleury (who was litter trained and then lost his habits) I had to use this to help him along. It took less than a week for him to catch on. We haven’t had any problems with him since! He actually jumps in the litter box now expecting to get a treat! LOL. It’s the cutest thing everrrr. It was really shocking to me how well rabbits (and how quickly) they actually catch on to this form of communication.

Mimzy — I’m not sure that is would be safe either. It really doesn’t sound like it is. My little girl had a great one that she loved until we bonded them all and low and beyond, the loved stuffed friend had to be taken out because the boys wouldn’t stop tearing it apart. Tore it to shreds. Maybe you could just stick it on top of her cage to decorate with? Then your boyfriend realizes you really do appreciate the thought!

I am now soaking wet and at the top of Blossoms S**T LIST due to a case of grotty botty. I have been trying to catch the litte terror since yesterday as she had a cecal wad the size of a pikelet stuck to her butt. My best towels are soaked as I decided to use those because they are the softest but during the battle they got dragged into the kitchen sink, the water had to be changed three times. Mission accomplished however and she is back in the play pen with the others giving me the stinkeye.

So I rarely post in the chats because I can never keep up with with y’all (stupid thesis…) but this has amused my boyfriend so much the past 2 weeks and I had to share.

Lola has fallen in love.  With an oversized tennis ball.  She licks it.  She mounts it.  She just sits on it.  All. Day. Long.  She will literally just drape her body over it and fall asleep on top of it as you can see in the one picture. She hangs out with us and then goes to make sure her faithful ball is okay, give is a good lick, and then comes running back to us for nose rubs.  This process is repeated about 20x a day.

Sorry the pictures are crooked – I’m not sure why.  But I hope you all get a laugh.  She refused to bond with another rabbit but has fallen head-over-heels for an inanimate object. Oy vey.

The addition of a Christmas tree is apparently just about the most interesting thing there ever was in bunny world. I keep seeing the branches moving around, and every now and then a bunny head pokes up through a couple of them. Since we put it up they’ve been underneath it for hours, the only time they’ve left is for a brief run into their bunny room to use the bathroom and then they come back out into the livingroom to sit under it some more, haha.

My dad doesn’t want me to buy a Christmas tree this year either! I found my Christmas labbit plush and put him on the dining room table.

 

One of my customers that I am friends with (and the only customer that I speak to out of work) texted me on Friday to say that there will be a Bunny Day Spa at the Humane Society on Saturday 12/1. I had a lot to do before work on Saturday, but I dropped one minor thing that needed to be done (and ended up doing it after work instead!) and my boyfriend and I headed to the day spa! I didn’t bring Chacha because she was already traumatized by going to PetSmart to get her photo taken with Santa! My friend was doing the grooming of the shelter buns and waiting for other bunny or guinea pig clients to show up. There was a small booth of gifts for bunnies and slaves. I even found a bunny Christmas tree skirt! I ended up purchasing a ‘Ski Bunny’ willow toy for Chacha and this little hand painted ornament that I absolutely could not resist:

“Mom, I disapprove of your tree, and always will.”

The boyfriend and I got talking about when we move in together. We will have a fake tree because he is allergic to real ones, and I’m cool with it. I told him that the tree will have lots of bunny ornaments and plushes underneath. His parents got it started — they gave me a really fancy bunny ornament last year So I blame them

Yesterday was the first day of the PetSmart Santa Pet Photo event! I took Chacha and well.. she was the first one to get her photo taken! The photo booth was located next to the dog grooming area (a glass area and you can’t hear the dogs inside) so when I took Chacha out of her carrier, my boyfriend told me to look at the grooming area. All of the groomers had stopped what they were doing and said “AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!’ and a few had a “” facial expression! It was perfect! The diva hates the public, but I know deep down inside she likes to be “Awwwwww’ed” over. She is the queen after all

 

Anyway, here is the photo that I got:

The photos are $10 and the money goes toward National Homeless Pets! I made Christmas cards out of the photo. So we both benefit in the end, and I’m cool with my $ going to help Homeless Pets! This is the 3rd year that I have gotten Santa photos done with Chacha! I hope that next year, I will be taking possibly 2 bunnies with me to see Santa We’ll see if Miss Diva decides that she wants a pal when we move in with Mister

It’s two and a half weeks til Thee and Seph go to the bunny vets for their spay, I’m taking Loki up as well so he can have his calici vaccine booster (it’s $24 cheaper per bunny than my local vet) and he’ll be in their day care while the girls are in surgery. The girls aren’t showing any signs of hormones or the desire to fight, in fact it’s the opposite and they love cuddling up and grooming each other.

Yesterday I was on a crafty site I frequent and a lady who lives 3 hours north of where I live was giving away a rare Australian made spinning wheel and a loom, I thought as I was over half way there I’d see if it’d be alright to go up the day of the girl’s spay and pick it up from her (it’s about 75 minutes away from where I’ll be and I have hours to fill), she’s happy with that so now I’ve got something to do for the day. So my Christmas presents all sorted!!

I’m guessing everyone, or mostly everyone, has stockings for their buns. I picked up a couple at Walmart that are big enough so the boys can shove their heads in to pull the treats out I’ll end up sticking in there. But past home made cookies I don’t know what else to put in there. The BB store obviously has awesome toys but we already spent $60 there a couple months ago when we got the haven and some other things so I’m lookin for cheap budget stuff. Any ideas?

Oh, I’ll end up buying one thing on BB eventually… Zeppo decided that the bed had to die and shredded a corner of it and ripped a good deal of stuffing out of it. =(

Monkeybun: What about a short tree? Like 4′ or something even smaller? Would poor Moosie still be afraid of it?

I’m in a bit of a ‘Grr’ mood at the moment, running low on pellets and go to the feed store only to discover they don’t stock the feed I’ve been using for the past 6 months… so now I’ve either got to swap to the stuff that’s stocked (minimum %s – Protein 16%, Fat 2.5% Fibre 14% vs 16.5%, 3%, 21% of the old stuff) The new stuff is about $5 cheaper per 40 lb bag but I’m worried about the lower fibre levels and I don’t know of anyone else who uses this ‘new’ brand. Grr!!

Binx, I tried a small tree before, he still gets all paranoid We can only have trees where Moosie can’t see them now, but unfortunately, the space we could put one is where the 2 foster buns are. So, no tree. Unless I can find a tiny tabletop one to put on my desk lol.

Mean while ]BEGIN RANT- I am here in WA beating my head against a wall and trying to create an idiot free zone… What is it about Occupational Health and Safety people don’t get. Why is it so hard to fill out a Hazard Report and Work Order for a broken door and why is it necessary to attack the safety people for not repairing the door when no one can be bothered to follow procedure so the right people get to know about it !!!! And why would anyone push open a door clearly marked and taped shut with DANGER tape and crawl through the gap just to avoid walking an extra 20 feet to have a cigarette…. Arrrrgh! This is the problem with OHS, it has circumvented Natural Selection and the idiots are living longer !!!! – END RANT[

Toady, try a pet store maybe. Sometimes they repackage into small bags but leave it unbranded. They might use what you were using. This could get you by until you can find a regular supplier.

Roberta, I’ve been using Barastoc since June and have had no problems with them, although I was told on another forum that around May/June the company who makes the pellets had issues getting hay so the pellets were lower quality and lots of rabbits refused to eat it but it’d be fixed by about October, so here’s hopeful everything’s fine now.

The only pet shop in the area sells the cheap mix stuff from supermarkets and nearest big pet shop is almost an hour away in Coffs Harbour, as is the feed stores, tomorrow I’m going to call around and see if I can find a place at Coffs that sells it. Wish we had someone like ‘Sherwood Forest’ food, or Oxbow was a LOT cheaper

I use that and last 2 bags have had less uniform colour. Some lighter colour pellets in with the usual.
The fodder store told me once that there is some variation sometime due to time of year and the hay used

Hi Toady, Barastoc…Not heard of that one but it may not be available over here. I use Peter’s Pellet’s from Coles. Yes, It’s 5% lucern but it makes up such a small part of their diet as they mainly have meadow and yellow hay and lots of green leafies. Worst case get the Peter’s or the alternate and up their hay for a while. You could also try http://www.mypetwarehouse.com.au they have Oxbow and they ship quickly and reasonably.

I personally don’t think Lucerne in them is a big deal. Like you said Roberta, its only a small part if their diet. Plus 99% of pellets here are Lucerne based I think. And TBH, I’d still choose what I feed over oxbow.

So, Powder has decided to be a total brat the last few days. I started putting hay in their litter boxes to try to encourage them to use them more (they still are giving me potty issues) and of course, Mr. Picky has to be difficult. It makes Stickers use the boxes more, so she likes it. But, there is still about 50% droppings outside the litter boxes every day. I walk in the room yesterday after restocking hay and see Powder standing outside the litter box, straining his little bunny neck (it’s one of the super large cat ones) to pull hay out of it onto the floor without entering the box. Brat! lol Every piece of hay was eaten and a small pile of droppings left in the spot he was pulling the hay to. And they won’t eat out of hay racks if they’re in the air. So, back to the drawing board I go!

And my parrot is recovering from a badly wounded foot, boyfriend wasn’t paying attention when he shut the bathroom door and got the birds foot caught in it. Didn’t break though, thankfully, just bruised and swollen His little foot is still swollen but the bruising has gone away mostly.

We don’t celebrate holidays in my family, so no Christmas shopping or holiday traveling. Going to just relax and spend some time with the boyfriend while he has time off work. Hope everyone has a fun holiday.

Everybody here is very nice and crazy about their bunnies, so you’ll fit right in! I don’t actually have a bunny anymore. Today it happens to be 3 years since we had to put our baby down, we still miss him very much. But I hang around anyway, living through all the other bunny slaves, so I’m gonna need some pictures of Peanut

 Has anyone else noticed there are so many lionhead crosses out lately?   I see a puff of hair longer than usual on their heads and go Aha  a lionhead mix.

Tan lover I love new phones n computers too.  And myxer has free ringtones and some you gotta pay for too. I use the animal ones.  Birds of different types.  Oh and an angry cat tone for my sis in law and her daughter cuz they have a cat lol.

Monkey bun  I have joined our ceramic club here and been painting 2 trees.  About 1 1/2 foot tall.  One is a plain xmas tree.  I put these peg birds in the holes and you can put a light inside. 

That ones for my mom.  I may be mailing it to her in jan right now the xmas rush the boxes are being handled roughly and i don’t want this stuff to break. I am going to make me a plain tree too for me. 

There are also trees with bird houses and xmas trimmings and birds can definitely be put on it. 

I did a hospitality tree that has all types of fruit on it.  Pears apples oranges nectarines blueberries.  I put little peg lights in it.  I realized the little birds smaller than the fruit would look like flies instead of  birds lol. 

If you know a ceramic store they probably have some and ask them to put holes in it to put bird pegs or round pegs. It is fun.

 Everyone I am excited.  Cottons vets office has a new vet and she is really into rabbits.  She got oxbow in there the pellets n hay everything.  I pay 6.00 more than I do at the pet store I have to take 2 busses to get to.  But being so convenient I buy from the vets. At least with them if I forget to call first to see if they have any I won’t be traveling so far to get some and be told we are out.  Funny thing I remember to call at the vets office which is closer to me.  Strange and I couldnt remember to call the petstore.  lol.  OH well.  The best for Cotton it is.  Glad I have access to it I know not everyone does.

About ceramic club.  We get free lessons.  The lady is retired from ceramics.  She likes the antiquing and matte look I like the glossy look.

She gets frustrated with me cuz I use glazes and a new RG line of paints which is really cool.  

We do learn from each other like the birds in the tree and a special light to put inside to light it up and the birds glow.

I did a piece and people actually learned something from me they would not otherwise have tried.  Cool.  I been learning from everyone else’s ideas finally someone learned from mine.  lol

Binx – Thanks! He’s what’s known as a tri-colored mini rex. I think he’s rather special as most of the tri-colored mini rex’s have a lot more white in them and he looks more like a speckly siberian tiger, haha.

RavishingRabbit, Your buns cuddling! Ahhhhh, they remind me of my Tanger and Fleury — WHO BY THE WAY — were my easiest to bond! Hopefully it works out true for your little rascals too! What exactly are each of their personalities like? Just wondering because I’m pretty sure it was just the perfect combination of personality for my three bonding so well!

I found a store that has the barastoc pellets I was looking for, thankfully they also have a store the next town up and are going to put a bag of pellets onto the truck so I can pick them up this afternoon… glad as I didn’t really like the 14% fibre of the other stuff

I paint as a relaxation thing, however since my job pretty much is nothing but illustrating sometimes I feel too worn out creatively to paint.

Tanlover – Rorschach is much more independent overall I think, and he wants to be the boss of everyone even though he’s always the one that has to groom Abigail. I think his only way that he really enforces any power over her is by pawing at her to make her move every once in a while because he decides he wants to sit in the spot she was in, haha. Abigail is incredibly laid back though, she puts up with pretty much anything and she’s so lovey dovey. She’ll always go and plop down with the others. Even when Rorschach paws at her to get her to move every now and then she just sits there and acts like being pawed at means love, haha. Benji I think is going to be much more mounty than the others ever were. Abigail and Rorschach never try to mount each other, never have.

I did my first bonding session with Benji and Rorschach today though, not super long, I think like maybe 15-20min. And while Rorschach was mostly just interested in trying to figure out a way to get out of the bathtub and Benji did try to mount him a couple times, Benji actually groomed Rorschach on 2 separate occasions! The second time lasted for several minutes and afterwards I ended the session so they’d end things on a positive note. But I’m totally excited that Benji groomed Rorschach so fast! Hopefully that means they’ll be bonded in no time and I can add Abigail into the mix as well.

Ha! Oh god, it makes me hope I end up getting my 4th bun so I can do bonding again! You’re making me miss the excitement of it! Do you plan on doing bonding sessions with just Abigail and Benji? I only ask because my girl was a little snappy towards the third bun I bonded into my trio which made my other one seem almost more cautious of the third bun. So I did separate bonding sessions with them too so she could get any aggression out or dominance without Fleury seeing it. Fleury was very accepting of Tanger, it took Sidney a few days to even let him sniff her without her thumping her feet a million times. LOL.

I think you have a very good structure so far for bonding though! My first two buns didn’t necessarily have a “dominance” thing as much as Sidney just put up with Fleury and would just push him around when he’d annoy her and vice versa. Although, Fleury is definitely the more “i’m the top bun and will flick my head at you in retaliation” than any of my others at all. With Tanger, Sidney was the one he had to get past to be initiated into the group because Fleury just LOVED him.

The best feeling in the world though was the first time I let them out together. I’ll have to post the video. They were doing well in the small neutral area so I just opened the gate and let them go. It was SOO cute! I videotaped it and it was just so exciting to watch them all together run around for the first time!

Haha, that’s sounds great! I’m going to do some bonding sessions with just Benji and Abigail as well, I just figured Rorschach might be the more difficult one to bond with Benji so I would have them hang out first a couple times in the bathtub, then depending on how that went I would do Benji and Abigail together, and then if that goes well to put all 3 of them in the bathtub and see how it goes. The only thing I don’t like about bonding is the tension of that first night when you leave them alone together in hopes that they won’t randomly have a falling out and decide they don’t like each other after all, haha. It was so much fun the first time I let Abigail & Rorschach run around together when I thought things had been going good for enough time. I can hardly wait until the 3 of them are all bonded!
I may get a 4th rabbit at some point in the future if one comes along that seems like a good fit, but that’s not planned for any time soon. I’m thinking my rabbit maximum would be 4 or 5 so I like to keep the spot open in case I happen across some super sweet bun that needs adopting from somewhere for whatever reason.

I have 2 favorite video clips of my buns, one is of Abigail when I had taken her outside to see what snow was like in the winter for a little while and she was doing these bounding leaps through the snow, haha. I have lots of pictures from another time out in the snow where she just kept tunneling underneath it and most of the time all you could see was the leash sticking out, haha. The other favorite video is of Rorschach in the house we were living in last year where he suddenly just starts racing around the room full speed when he was just 2-2 1/5 months old.

So many of my customers keep asking me if I am married and have children. When I say no, they look all offended. It isn’t your life, so why are you so upset? I want to accomplish so many things in my life that it isn’t even funny! I don’t need a child to tie me down (unless it is an animal) and to take all of my money (yet) when I can be using it to pay bills, buy veggies, travel, and do awesome things. I’m 25 and the thought of marriage and kids makes me feel uncomfortable. I’m glad that the Mister is fine with what I want to do with my life. His mom was older when she had him, so he understands

I went to my doctor’s office to pick up a prescription and the front desk receptionist asked me when I will start my externship. I told her not until April and she gave me the number to the clinic manager. The front desk receptionist thinks that I will be a good fit as an extern and maybe get hired. I will definitely be talking to my clinical teacher tomorrow! Plus, the hospital and clinic is super close to where I live.

 

Earlier, I cooked dinner while in my Mom’s snuggie. It was quite fun.

 

I’m going to make this tomorrow for dinner for the Mister and I. I’m gonna serve it over a bed of rice.

I know what you mean, I’ve just hit 30 and had people look at me weirdly when I say I don’t want kids… I’m so sick of the “You’ll change your mind” speech, I haven’t wanted kids since I was 8 so I know that’s not going to change! Give me a baby animal and I go nuts, babies I don’t want to go anywhere near them and kid screams is fingernails down a chalkboard to me. We’ve got out kids, they just have tails and cost a lot less than kids, food is a lot cheaper and there’s no complaining about how they don’t have the latest gadget or they’re not allowed to go out… and one of the best things, we don’t have to worry about our kids saying to us “I’m pregnant/I got her pregnant” cause most of our pets have had the snip.

LoveChaCha & Toady: I know how you feel. Hubby and I decided not to have kids either. It’s annoying when people look at you weird and tell you you’ll change your mind soon, it almost feels condescending. But don’t let it get to you. We make a fun game out of hearing people’s reasons why we have to have kids. My favorite so far came from our neighbor, who told Hubby “Ya gotta pass on your name, man!!” Yeah, that’s a great reason to bring a new life into the world… Just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you HAVE to. We were playing with the idea of Hubby having a vasectomy, so far we didn’t do it, Hubby says he doesn’t have the balls for it

Furbabies are a lot easier and you don’t get Child Services called on you if you put them in a cage.

Just give it a few decades… Then you have to put up with the idiots that assume because you are living alone in your 50’s you must be a lesbian. Probably doesn’t help that many of my friends are lesbians or bat for both teams. Me, Personally, been through 5 fiances, one of whom was a member of and the poster boy for an internationally well known all male review back in the 80’s
As to children, would have been nice but fate decreed otherwise.. It takes what it must and leaves you to deal with it. People often forget that when they are grilling you to find out why you aren’t a breeder. Wrote an article in the local newspaper a while ago regarding those that are giving birth purely to cash in on the baby bonus. One woman commented that it was all us selfish single childless people building high density housing and taking away large houses that could be bought and used by productive families that was the problem. I did point out that those people were ex children, whose children also wanted cheap affordable investment properties. Idiots again… We really need to revise the gun laws in this country… SORRY, Just joking !!!!!

Toady, Hazel, and Roberta — HAHA! I just don’t get it sometimes. My boyfriend is extremely supportive of having a child in the far future, even when I’m older. His mom was an older mom (she was almost 40, I believe). If fate allows it to happen then, it will happen. If not, I’m fine with the idea of adopting or not having a child. My Dad does not want grandchildren yet and is cool with me waiting. He is just happy with being a ‘Grandpaw’ to little Chacha. He even bought her a little Christmas gift

I have a lot of parents come through my line and I’ve noticed that some of the parents that have one child are busy, yet they look like they have everything balanced in their lives. I indeed get to know these people and talk to them on an almost weekly basis. The thought of the cost of college is enough to make me want to cower in the corner and cry T______T

The thought of having children is wayyyy in the future, although my boyfriend’s mom dropped the “*sigh* I’d love to have grandkids soon…” at thanksgiving. Welp, D is going to med school this August and I’m going to focus on finding a really kick ass job so careers are coming first for us. I’d like to think we’d eventually tie the knot and settle down (somewhere outside of florida, PLEASE!) but we’ve only been dating 2 years

oh, and chacha your curry looks delicious! we’re not big curry fans here, but we do LOVE to cook. Yesterday I finally roasted the giant pumpkin that was sitting on my door step for halloween/thanksgiving. I made a delicious and simple pumpkin soup (totally could do it vegetarian if I used vegetable stock instead of chicken) and substituted almond milk instead of heavy cream. It tastes soooo good, and it’s less than 150 calories a serving. yum

Hey all! What’s going on everybody? Not much over here; at the moment I am sitting on the bed after taking a nap because I didn’t sleep much last night… Peanut is fast asleep with her eyes closed lying right against my leg. She looks so cute, so sleepy. So, I was having an argument with my computer the last time I had posted and when I introduced myself, because it wouldn’t let me post any of our pictures for some reason. I just couldn’t get it to work. So here are some pics, praying they actually show up this time. Enjoy our most recent picture, taken yesterday. She was sitting next to my bed looking at me while I was studying, just staring at me for hours. HA. She is such a fluffy goober.

If you happen to be wondering why I didn’t sleep last night (which I’m sure none of you are probably wondering that, but I am going to tell you all anyway), Peanut, who I let free around my room at all times, insisted on licking my face all through the night. I thought about closing her in her cage but whenever I do that when she keeps me up like this, she just makes a ton of noise and thumps around until I let her back out. She’s always been very attached to me, like…. SUPER attached, so it can be really hard to sleep sometimes. She usually will sleep in between my boyfriend and I near our heads or at our feet closer to the fan. But last night was not one of those sleepy peaceful nights. First, she woke my boyfriend up at 2 AM, only about 30 minutes after we went to bed. He sleeps on his back, so she likes to sit on his chest/neck with her scratchy nails and she licks and licks and lick his face and neck and ears and chest and even his hair, and just anywhere she can til he says no more. He says she always gives him kisses because she loves him, but I think it’s because of his salty sweaty smell . After he got sick of it and pushed her off his face and rolled over to go back to sleep, she came over to my pillow and crawled onto the side of my face. I sleep on my side. She was lying down on my face, resting her chin right next to my nose. All I kept hearing was the tiny whistling noise her nose makes when she breathes in and out. I reached my hand up to pet her cause I figured that’s what she was doing. It’s funny– with me, she gets really cute and cuddly and demands me to always pet her and she gets really close to my face when she can and if not she sits on my lap… But with my boyfriend, she is like that sometimes, but when she wants his attention she charges at him but instead of biting she licks him. She circles his feet like she wants to mate with him, and will hump his feet when he’s sitting and when he’s lying down she will hump his arm/shoulder. It’s so funny, I can’t wait to put the videos up on YouTube and on here. Anyway, that’s my bunny rant for the day. Here’s a picture, sorry it took so long… Enjoy!

On human news, last night I went to see Flight. It was SO good. It’s the movie about the plane crash starring Denzel Washington. I’m considering spoiling myself and seeing another movie tonight, because I never go and when I went the other night I had a ton of fun. Mmmmmm buttery popcorn for dinner. Sounds great to me!

Nothing makes the idea of kids strike fear in your heart more than wrangling a different herd of them every day. I wanted to cry toward the end, even threatened this one particularly bad group that we were going to go sit on the bus until it was time for them to go back to school. Of course they had no chaperone either. Ugh.

I do have people ask me why I don’t have kids. It isn’t that I am not open to the idea. It’s just that we are not in a good place. I am in grad school, we have no money, our house is a disaster. We just aren’t in a position where kids could even be taken into consideration. I don’t think things will change any time soon.

 

Speaking of school. I have stuff that is due tomorrow and I have a paper due Monday that I haven’t even started on.

Hailey your peanut sounds like our cats! Kiwi runs across our heads all night to get away from Fats who likes to take over our pillows and lick us/purr/snore in our ears till we push him away or Yuki who does nothing but sleep at the foot of the bed. Then there’s Gizmo who will sit in front of the door and meow at 5 in the morning until one of us gets up and snuggles with her on the couch. She won’t snuggle in the bed if Kiwi is there. Obviously our cats are not fans of each other.

I’m jealous of the attention you get from Peanut!! I call it a good day if Finn lets me rub his nose without him jumping up and taking off in the other direction.

I need to vent for a second and decided to do it on here (sorry in advance).  So today was my birthday.  I was a little sad that I had to go to work a little early today and work 2 hours over because of a meeting on campus but it wasn’t THAT bad.  When I was going to my 6th (yes, SIXTH) meeting of the day I walk in and the conference table is covered in weed. Yes, marijuana. Some student must have spilled their stash and not realized it.  Police report number uno of the day.  I finally get to leave at 5:30, get to my car and Christmas music comes on and I get a little nostalgic being that I’m 3,000 miles away from home and BOOM! a student backs right into my car.  Police report numero dos of the day.  Although, I think I took a little of the days frustrations out on the poor student but seriously, kid – check you rearview mirror and turn down your music if you can’t hear my blaring horn.  So you think it ends there, right? Wrong. My boyfriend made late dinner reservations.  I really wasn’t in the mood to go but felt bad because he wanted to cheer me up.  So we go to this really fancy restaurant right along the beach and it was a nice relaxing meal and calmed me down after an eventful day.  On the drive home – I feel kind of funny….. You guessed it – epic food poisoning.  This is real life.  This really happened.

Sorry just needed to vent.   Here’s to hoping I got out all of my years mishaps in one day!?  Wishful thinking!?

Finn is absolutely adorable until that Christmas tree, I must admit! Don’t tell my buns, they’ll tear me a new one…

And I never knew you could have sushi without it having some sort of weird fish or seafood in it! But then again, I’m not very up on sushi at all. I’ve always just thought raw fish and steered clear!

I know the feeling about waiting to have kids conversation! The boyfriend and I have discussed marriage and it’s not going to happen until we’re like 30 and have had lots of time to grow and have fun with each other before we start adding any babies (that aren’t covered in fur) into the mix for sure! It’s so weird that people expect you to get married so quickly nowadays though! My little furbabies keep me on my toes enough. I can’t even begin to imagine a real child right now. LOL.

Binx — we love our little Tan babies. Even though they’re total brats. I’ve looked everywhere also (shelters and rescues) and have never seen them anywhere but ours either. And the breeder we got them from! And I’ve only seen one person in PA who breeds them!

Happy Birthday, BMT!!! That really is some sucky day though. Hopefully your day after was much more relaxing!

I’ve been working non-stop since Monday so haven’t been on much and nothing new has been happening here or with the buns! Besides them being mad they were caged up all day yesterday until I got home at 11:15 pm. And by that time it was a late dinner time for them so they didn’t even wanna come out to play, just wanted their darn dinner! And were not cuddly at all. Just got called in early again but doing some BB’ing before I torture myself by going in again. Early. Yesterday I worked a double shift – 9am to 11pm. And today I’m working 2pm-11pm. Boooooo. I was only supposed to be 4pm-11pm. But I guess with Christmas coming up I could use the extra money!

Hahaha, sushi is yum. I have a soft spot for shrimp tenpura sushi O_o My eyes fall out as soon as I bite into it. I actually enjoy fish, so I won’t be taking that out of my diet. I have had raw tuna and it is delicious. I don’t try to judge things that I’ve never even tasted so that I can experience new things. I made an attempt to print out my previous tests to study for my final exam next Tuesday. I found out that my printer is out of black ink So I’m just going to print out the tests at school tomorrow.

This morning, my dad made me breakfast and I took it from the counter. I went into my room with it and had to go do something real quick. I came back and found a stray poopie on the plate O_O!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I still ate it. It wasn’t directly touching my breakfast or anything. Rabbit poop is literally harmless. Oh well, the life of a crazy bunny lady.

Tomorrow I’m having seven girls over to make tacos and have a good time. Bosse gets stressed out whenever I use the fryer, and when strangers come over. He usually comes over and says hello after a while though, sometimes he even jumps up on the couch and picks out one fav. person to groom haha, he just needs a little bit of time. Do you guys think I should keep him in his cage until after we’ve eaten? Then let him out when things have settled? I think that if he is out from the beginning all the girls are going to want to snuggle(/strangle) him with attention, and stress him even more out.
What are your thoughts?

Haha, they should! That would be tough to calculate though, I mean you may as well add a couple thousand dollars into it for potential damage in that case since what if they chewed through a tv cable, or like mine like to do is pull up the carpet, despite their giant piles of toys. It’s not fun chewing on things you’re allowed to chew on after all, haha. Abigail of course is very fond of skinny cables like mice or headphones, and clearly after a mere 3 months of owning that mouse she was trying to rid me of it’s ancient outdated 3 month old technology. She’s such a stinker.

Well if that was the case she should’ve chewed it they day you brought it home since technology is pretty much out of date shortly after it rolls off the assembly line. But yes, I agree it would be too difficult to judge a destruction cost. Luckily we don’t have carpet other than an area rug, and they stick to chewing on the $1.50 ones I bought them that are woven from recycled fabrics. Though, there was that one time at my mom’s house when Zeppo couldn’t fit under the couch and decided to chew a hole big enough to fit his butt. She was not impressed.

It would be so nice if they would just kindly stick to the allowed chewing items… Like that’ll ever happen!

Haha, well maybe a butt shaped hole in the couch was exactly what it needed! I’m sure your mom would totally agree. 😉 My mom was a bit upset last year sometime when her rabbit Clara decided she hated the wallpaper in my moms apartment and thus made some very successful attempts at removing it, haha. Where did you get the recycled fabric rugs or whatever? That might be worth looking into for my little destructo-rabbits. Benji is the worst by far when it comes to carpet..but then he likes chewing on pretty much everything, luckily that also includes his toys from time to time, haha. He’s going to be such a troublemaker when he eventually gets to free-roam with the other two.

Oh yeah, mom TOTALLY agreed! And oh no not the wallpaper! That couldn’t have been good on her little stomach. Though that reminds me of shortly after we moved into the new apartment our boys decided that eating the texture of the wall, paint and all was an amazing idea! The bottom 3 feet of our walls, the textured ones, are now covered in cardboard. -_-

Not sure where you live but I’m in Minnesota and got them from Fleet Farm, though they are not on their website otherwise I would’ve linked that. They’re the size of door mats, and at $1.50 a piece, it’s easy to buy a few and scatter them about. Mine were a solution to sliding bun feet on hard wood floors. I suppose I can take a picture of one of mine too.

My husband and I had a fight last night. He was still stewing about it this morning when he left. I feel bad because he wanted me to help him with something. The problem is the project is in a town 30 minutes or so away and we would have been there all day. I have a paper due Monday that I haven’t even started on yet and I have to work all weekend. He was mad because I was up late last night and then I wanted to go to bed. I was trying to get this other thing done so it wouldn’t be standing in the way of me working on my paper. He accused me of spending the whole evening messing around on my computer. I yelled back at him and it came out that I didn’t want to go with him today because I am worried about my paper not being done. Now I’m sitting here alone. Instead of working on stuff, I just feel guilty. *sigh

I’m not really in the Christmas mood right now. This is such a stressful time of year. I’m hoping to maybe get the tree put up next week. Unfortunately, there is a bunch of stuff sitting where the tree normally goes. I don’t know what to do with it.

Oh goodness. The buns and their destructiveness. I definitely feel your pains. As for carpet, my buns are TERRIBLE with carpet and their whole area is carpet. We gave them towels though randomly and they ended up going bonkers over them since they can throw them around, chew, and they yank on them just like they would the carpet. It’s helped A LOT with my little carpet destroyers. And it’s something you would already have laying around.

Luckily, I am not a gamer and use my laptop so thankfully, a mouse is one less thing for my buns to destroy! Their not allowed in the bedroom anyways. My boyfriend has TONS of cables around his computer and they like to chew on everything so we’re not taking a chance with bunnies and those cables. And well, needless to say our little hellions do nothing but create trouble so they are off-limits from being free-roam. They do attempt to eat all my books to pieces though when I’m attempting to read.

Today is a disaster.

I had to wake up earlier for class because my teacher is having the class do clincal check offs. She told our group of 3 people to be at the class at 8 am. Our group got there at 7:55, and the teacher wasn’t even there until 8:05. The teacher is already late and setting up stuff in the class. We grab our supplies and start filling the syringes up and as soon as we begin, she walks up to us and asks “Are you done yet? We are close with time.” Um, hello, aren’t YOU the one that was late? Why are you trying to place this on us? We were HERE BEFORE you were. Then came some more snarky, undeserved comments about the smallest things. She made a small note in my check off paper that my freaking scrub top wasn’t IRONED! Oh derp.

The other students feel the same way that I do — we cannot wait for winter break and have our old clinical teacher back. Now I’m going to do some kickboxing before I kickbox something that I shouldn’t -_-

Tanlover – We have all carpet too, except for in the kitchen, but they never go there because of that, haha. Benji has a towel in with him actually, I took one of their pet carrier halves and turned it upside down so it’s like a little house, and then I draped a large towel over it so it wouldn’t make as much noise when Benji jumps up on it, plus it makes it more difficult for him to move the carrier part around. He enjoys digging at it some of the time..but that carpet is apparently sometimes just irresistible to pull up and destroy. I think I might get some small towels for Abigail and Rorschach though that they can toss around if they’d like. They’re not nearly as bad with the carpet, they’ll still pull it up from time to time but it’s usually just a small area and then they’ll stop. I swear if I didn’t catch Benji while he was doing it he would probably just keep going until half the room was done, haha. Maybe it’d be worth seeing if Benji would have fun with some smaller towels as well, he does love tossing things around.

Lovechacha – Ugh, few things annoy me more than when the authority person does things wrong and then blames it on someone else. My boyfriend used to have a boss that was terrible with that sort of thing.

Chacha, in all honesty, you’ll probably end up with supervisors and doctors that will act like that once you get your certificate and such. So be prepared, not all doctors are nice and easy going. Clinic jobs are very stressful, and often you may end up getting the brunt of that stress put on you.

It went relly well today. I just let Bosse choose for himself where he wanted to be. Usually his safe spot outside of the cage is underneath the sofa table, but seing we were 8 chatty girls sitting round the table, he just hung out in his cage. I think he got bored, he started banging some cardboard around, it was really loud, lol! After a while he came out and just smelled around on the carpet, but kept his distance.

Yeah, it has been annoying me for sooo long xD It started when I watched 7th heaven after school when I was 11, lol. Now it’s from watching Vampire Diaries. Elena – y u just hang up?

Not that it means much for the TA’s but…still! The end is nigh! My students are taking their final next week and then comes the horror known as grading 35 exams (plus a three page essay they had to write).

I’ve lost numerous IPhone cords… sigh… I swear those things are like a beacon for my rabbits. Tait is a cord chewer so I’m usually very careful, but those cords are so transitory I forget sometimes. Nate, the other week, ran up to me while I was sitting on the floor of their room, syncing my phone, took a huge bite, BROKE THE THING RIGHT IN HALF, and ran away binkying. I was like really dude! It took me 4 months to get you to eat hay, to this day you will still barely ever chew a toy, and this is what you decide to chew

 

…infact the cord I use at work is electrical taped in 2 places, and is missing the plastic around the dock connector… and the K button on my laptop pops off from time to time, ever since Tait decided that Binky Bunny was not an acceptable way to spend my time.

My last exam was yesterday evening so of course I went out to celebrate. I’m paying for it today. Ouch, my head hurts

Ughh, I don’t think I’ve mentioned that my roommate has a SPCA foster dog right now. Anyway she’s having some major medical problems right now

The dogs name is Kona, she’s an approx. 2 year old border collie/german shepherd mix, that has the most wonderful personality of all time. She was surrendered by her owners neighbors, when they found her running on the road. And the owners refused to pay the loose dog fine, to get her out of the shelter, so she’ll go up for adoption soon. The neighbors took her, because she has spent her entire life in the backyard, without proper shelther, regular feedings, or any attention. So we are working on socialization with her right now, but she is coming along very well And of course fattening her up while we wait until she can be spayed 

We found out about her when she was brought into our clinic for a suspected abscess, that had erupted out onto the side of her face. She was on antibiotics for about a week and a half for that, but it wasn’t getting better and she was crying in pain whenever she ate, and then started to refuse to eat all together. So we had her checked out again and had an Xray taken. And it looks like she was shot in the face! There are metal fragments just behind her jaw, under her eye. So for now she’s loaded up on pain meds and a stronger antibiotic. They’re giving her another week and half of this, to see if it will heal and she can live with the fragments in her skin without any discomfort (happens quite a lot actually). But from the looks of it, she will be having surgery. It’s pretty invasive and you’re basically going in blind because the pieces are TINY. So if you guys could send her some good vibes, it would be greatly appreciated!

So for now we’re just living with the blood (she’s in heat) and constant bloody drool She’s so sweet though! She cuddles like a 5 pound chihuahua  At first she really wanted to cuddle, but had no idea how to. It was really sad, she’d crawl onto the couch with you and kind of hover over and just freeze because she didn’t know what to do. It didn’t take her long to become a complete couch/bed dog though She still has no idea what to do with toys though, she looks at you like your insane. But she is slowly learning to play with other dogs

I’ll try to post a picture of her sometime tonight!

Pipi the rotten has managed to squeeze Nermal Nomnoms sqeaky road kill skunk plushy through the X-pen bars were the whole family has chewed it to pieces. Little ratbags !!! It was her birthday present. I guess I a going to have to give her an early Xmas pressie. Pipi is becoming a thorough Madam.

Well we came home with a truckload of junk. This is the stuff my husband wanted me to help him with. Cleaning out a crawl space so this stuff can go to the scrap heap. Somehow there were 3 bicycles, a moped, a gas grill, and several boxes of junk that ended up being loaded up. Wow. So now my husband is happy and I still have my paper to finish.

The rabbits seem extra hyper lately. Not sure what it is. I caught Leopold red-handed chewing on the baseboard. Oh boy was he mad at me for spoiling his fun. He is probably still stewing about it.

Can’t believe it’s December already. It sure feels like it here, though. -23 windchill today and yesterday.

Been feeling pretty down lately. My horse is lame. I think she has laminitis again which is a potentially devastating inflammation inside the hooves. She had it once before a few years ago and was okay, so I’m hoping that’s the case again. She’s on stall rest (and is very angry about it) and meds. I want all my fur-babies happy and healthy for Christmas.

Ahh, you have a horse? What breed? And any pictures? I own two of the beasts  Im sorry about the laminitis, its a horrible disease. Sending you healing vibes for your girl. I hope she recovers and is sound again.

Awee, yeah city living sure puts a stop to horses… unless you have a ton of money for boarding, haha. I have a Appaloosa, and a rescued Arab. The Appaloosa is mean as hell… he has mental issues I believe… and the Arab is my little baby <3

Happy Birthday Svandis, glad you had a good one. I have a landmark coming up on the 22nd Dec… The day after the worlds supposed to end which is why I am having two events. A very liquid lunch at a little Cafe/Restaurant on Friday 21 Dec and a gathering of friends and family on the 22 Dec. If the world ends I intend going out with a bottle of bubbly in one hand and a full champagne glass in the other (complete with candied hibiscus flower soaking in the bottom) Although I believe via the internet that someone cocked up the calculations on the Mayan Calender and forgot to allow for the leap years so it actually expired over 7 months ago.
Mean while new gifties have been purchased for Nermal to replace Mr RK Skunk who was pilfered and demolished by Pipi Monster. A lovely Blue Heffalump (who is not permitted to be seated on her yellow sleeping bag/blanket) and a lovely hanging birdie kabob with a bell. I know she likes it because I have been hearing bells since yesterday…. Constantly, repeatedly again and again and again…. The Bells, The Bells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Off to find my arthritis oil now… My left middle finger is swollen and the top joint has rotated about 4 degrees and is developing a tilt of approx 25 degress, well, atleast it will match the other twisty digits…. I could do with out the pain though as I have several hours of yard work ahead of me and there’s no one else to do it. Need to get back on the clay, keeping the claws busy reduces some of the swelling and keeps them from locking up.
Oh almost forgot… BUnny Girl… Marita has tunnels, straw and I think willow… Not sure if its both but they are great going to get some for the buns for Xmas and Pipi and Blossom are getting this great kitten scratchy toy with a rotating drum full of rattling things. The perfect gift for the bunny that likes to dig… I am sure Mummy Pepper and Daddy Piglet will help test it for quality.

Chanukkah night #2 tonight (My boyfriend comes from a Jewish family), and it was nice. I gave Peanut (Lionhead, my fluffy bun) a hideaway made out of wood that I put in her favorite corner of our bedroom where she free roams. I also knit her a tiny bunny blanket with soft, different colored pink and whites yarn. I tossed it inside her hideaway and she immediately went over to inspect. first she pulled the knit blanket out. she nested on it for a while, pushing it with her front paws and biting it with her teeth to pull it in another direction. she was making it into a bed it looked like, until she hopped in the little hideout and pulled the thing in with her teeth and started doing it again. It was awesome and I’ m so happy she loves her presents. I also gave her a few nibbles of my banana for a midnight snack. Of course nothing is free, so I did a few tricks with her. She doesn’t do anything extraordinary… YET. For more it’s just the basics. But starting early is key so I have faith! lol
Today the man and I finished putting up the Xmas lights. Half of the house is decorated with Chanukkah decorations while the other half is Christmas, haha. I love the holidays! Too bad there is no snow outside. Boo.

It seems like I’m having problems trying to get pet food lately. I finally found someone who stocked the bunny pellets I use and now that I’ve started feeding my kitties a super premium food only available from a few places in Brisbane… problem is they’re telling me it’s $37 to send a 20kg (40lb) bag to me, yet to send it to the large town that has the depot which is 40 kms north it’s only $14… pity I don’t know anyone up there who I could get it sent to. It’s so frustrating cause the people I’ve talk to at the couriers say I’m in the $14 zone but the sender’s franchised courier refuses to agree. AHHHH!!!

School fees can really be exorbitant sometimes…I totally agree with you CM. I have to register for my first US Medical Licensing Exam soon, which will run me almost $600 . Not only will I go crazy with stress trying to study for this (the score is a really important factor when I apply for residency programs in a couple of years), but they have to try to bankrupt me as well..

I hear ya peppy, my sister is in MAJOR debt from med school. And her fiance just quit work this fall to go back to school so they’re feeling the cash-flow problem too.

I refuse to go into debt for school. Doctors have a good chance of getting their money back but other careers, not so much. I have OCD about owing money though :/

Heh, don’t get me started on student loan debt. I was working retail before I went to school. I had debt back then and I wasn’t making enough money. I decided to go to school so I could make more money and have a better life. Now I have probably 6 times as much debt and less cash flow than I did before. I will graduate within the next year and as you all know, I probably won’t be able to find a job that pays well enough.

The weather here in Texas is just as it always is in winter…indecisive! It’s been pretty cold today and yesterday but about a week prior, it’s been hot! Wouldn’t be surprised if it was back up to 80-90’s again tomorrow I’m just glad that during the cold days we have here and there, I don’t have to worry about Mimzy getting too hot

Well my bird has been such a pest lately! He’s been flying onto Mimzy’s cage and pooping while he’s up there. He always does this when I leave the room. So I came back in to find him on her cage and soon as he saw me, he took off! So he knows I don’t want him up there, he just wants to be a little troublemaker. And then come to find poop not only on the floor, but in her water bowl! Had to clean it really good.
Then last night I had just put Mimzy’s pellets down, left the room. I came back to find the naughty boy eating Mimzy’s food! And she was letting him So in his cage he went. I just don’t know how to keep him away from there :/

Today was nail trimming day. Wildly unpopular of course!. Benji & Rorschach have always been amazingly awesome with it though, they just sit perfectly still and let me do it. Not to mention Benji’s white feet mean clear nails which is just awesome. Abigail on the other hand…she typically fights me every single nail. She has gotten way better lately though at just holding still, I feel like Rorschach & Benji have told her if she just sits there it’s done in like 5min, haha.

Speaking of Christmas, (Sorry for randomly butting in.) my mom is making Christmas cookies today, so she didn’t cook dinner so while I was making me and my nephew something to eat, I got locked out of the knife drawer…  I was fiddling with the child lock for like 10 minutes before my sister had to come over and help me out. In my defense, those things are difficult to function!  Well, the good news is that my 2 year old nephew won’t be able to get into it… My sister had called it a child AND Noah lock.

I’m starting a ‘bunny garden’ and sprouting some seeds inside on toilet paper and cotton wool… so far my Rocket (Arugula) seeds have sprouted and my Chinese Celery hasn’t yet. Yesterday I ‘sowed’ some swiss chard (mainly for my mum) and Baby Pak Carrots, the idea is to give the tops to the bunnies… and I’ve also got some red Radicchio seeds to sow as well, I’m expecting that when I start feeding this I’ve have red bunny pees.

Today was my last day of clinical classes until January 7th. Thank goodness. I did the final and got a decent grade on it. I’ll be missing some of my classmates, and happy to be away from some, lol.

I got my third tattoo today (I made a thread about it), and went straight to work right after. I am basically a gimp for a few days because the tattooed area hurts. I’m a trooper and will be fine :p I just washed it and put some ointment on it.

Wooly has been avoiding me for weeks. I was finally able to grab him tonight. Boy was he mad.

 

Well I shouldn’t say he hasn’t been brushed because he has. Just not thoroughly recently. The real problem were his nails. I knew they were starting to get long but he HATES it when I try to cut them. Funny how when he was younger he would sit there calmly and let me do it.

Lol, LBJ – Yeah mine were less than thrilled about the nail cutting today too. Rorschach does this awesome pissed off/pouty face when he knows that I’m about to cut his nails, he reminds me of a little kid that has just gone into pout mode and crossed their arms, put their foot down and made the “Hmph!” sound. Abigail I think has actually learned to understand the phrase “we need to cut your nails”, because if I say it she goes from whatever she’s happily doing to giving me this amazingly disapproving look.

Do you all think that it’s wrong to leave one company even though they’re lovely and go for another because of cheaper shipping costs? I’ve just transferred $132 for a 20kg bag of kitty biscuits, $32 of that is shipping costs, I’ve just found another business who sells the same brand and the total should be $119. Don’t get me wrong, the pricier lady is lovely and a pleasure to deal with but honestly I’m tempted to go with the cheaper company next time.

Looks like Nermal Nomnom’s cinnamon frosting may be turning into spots… Was looking closely last night and this morning and what was originally little tips of colour all over seem to be developing distinct shapes like little leopard spots on her haunches. The effect is really very pretty. There are very distinct soft cinnamon markins on her feet and legs and they are starting to darken up to resemble her tail. If I can get Mademoiselle Nermal des Nomnoms to be nice and sit still for derriere pictures I will start another thread.

I haven’t been on in foreverrrr it feels like!  I’ve spent most of the week off BinkyBunny and doing many other things around the house.  And working non-stop.  I ended up with overtime the last week so that’s always great!  My check I received this week with the overtime was amazing to see!  Especially right before Christmas.    I have two weeks off from work – this coming Friday to January 2nd so I‘m really excited to be able to relax and do whatever.  BUT before that, I’m going to have to find time to finish all this Christmas stuff and do a full cleaning of our house.  I feel like I just haven’t had the energy to do anything productive lately.  But it all has to be done.  Le sigh. 

 

Jerseygirl — LOVED that video!  LOL.  I died laughing.  And then showed it to my boyfriend and said we seriously needed to train the little hellions to do that!  Too fantastic. 

 

Still holding out on hope that we’ll get the FOURTH little Tan!  Ugh.  I hate having to wait.  But I’m thinking she won’t decide until after the first litter appears which should be in the first two weeks of Feb.  It seems so far away.  We’ve decided if we get him we’re officially done with getting any more rascals!  And if we don’t get him then we’re done anyways.   He’s our last bun bun either way.  We’ve talked a lot about how we would go about bonding him and such and we’re positive he’ll be a little brat since Tanger definitely was a wild one when we got him too!  Well, lets be honest… they all were!  One more little turkeyhead to have running around the house!   Oh goodness, it would be the best Christmas EVER if she would just message me on Christmas and say we could have him as soon as he breeds with the other girl she has!   But that will never happen… Hahah.  Oh well, I’ll just have to wait!  Or explode waiting…

 

Hope everyones holidays have been good so far!  I’ve almost finished all my Christmas shopping!  Quickest (and soonest) I’ve ever almost been done!  Usually I’m shopping for everything the weekend before.  But I had almost everything purchased two weeks in advance! 

 

AND I GOT A KEURIG THIS WEEK!  Not sure if anyone on here has one… but if you have a coffee obsession such as mine… it’s basically necessary.  Best purchase ever!  My co-worker had bought the $150 one and decided she didn’t like it after using it a few times so she sold it to us for $50!  Great deal and I’m soooooo in love with it!  The boyfriend doesn’t drink coffee but thankfully they have hot chocolate K-Cups so he’s been enjoying it also!

I gave up coffee back in May. I have it maybe once a month now, just as a rare treat. I had to have like 4-6 cups a day to feel human and I realized that was probably not the best life choice for someone who is already normally panic-y and tends to work herself into a state of catatonia. I cannot stand the taste of coffee. It tastes terrible. So bitter. I don’t understand how anyone can drink that stuff.

Haha! I remember someone at work offering me a piece of coffee “candy”. I didn’t want to be rude so I put it in my mouth. As I chewed on it, my eye started to water. She was like “isn’t it great?” It was so gross!

Wow, it is so sad that I am down to pretty much nothing in my bank account. I don’t know how I’m going to make it until Christmas. That would be a nice gift. I still haven’t heard anything back from the one job I had interviewed for. I’m not holding out much hope for that other job I applied for (the one that popped up a second time).

In other news, I have been wanting to ring a couple of little bunny necks today. Leopold has suddenly decided that the baseboard is tasty. I was in the bedroom and I could hear him gnawing on the other side of the wall! Of course Wooly was right there beside him, seeing what he was up to. I scolded them both. Then Wooly decided it was best if he chewed on a cardboard box. I like the idea of making a stationary chew thing for the rabbits. I’ll have to look into that.

LBJ — I can’t help but laugh that you say that! I used to HATE coffee. I despised the taste of it sooooo much. And then I spent a month with my brother and he had it like every morning. We went go to DD, Starbucks, or McDonalds to get it. So it was flavored pretty darn well so you almost couldn’t taste the coffee. And then BAM…. now I can’t stop drinking it!

ChaCha — I know what you mean! I get all hyper but I always feel soooo tired that whenever I need to clean/get myself going (which is all the time) I inhale coffee and I feel like WonderWoman! I’ve actually tried to get into tea (the caffienated kind) since coffee is so bad for you and your teeth and such but I haven’t been able to really find one I like. I tried this one at work and put two tea bags into the normal one and got EXTREMELY jittery and then barfed, LOL. I don’t really know what that was about… but I won’t be trying the two tea bag thing any time soon! Have you found a citrusy type tea that you really like? I would be willing to go out and try a new one. Or brand rather that you prefer? I just can’t find one I really love (that has caffeine) but then I’ve stuff to the ones at work and all of those that are citrusy and fun are non-caffienated.

Jerseygirl — ahahahahah! I’m not that crazy, I swear! The buns get lucky too. Since they used to always have to wait until my coffee was down the hatch to come out, they’d be banging on the cage the whole time! Now the time they have to wait has been shortened! LOL.

I’ve just recently gotten into coffee as well! I never understood why my dad drank coffee when he woke up in the morning…. then I got my job as a camp counselor and realized I was a MUCH happier counselor if I got my “grande iced coffee with a shot of vanilla and non fat milk” before heading into work. Now I just drink coffee in the morning as a substitute for breakfast or when I feel like I need a little push in my day.
Coffee is my relaxed version of caffeine. If I really need some get up and go power (like, before derby practice/games) I drink a red bull. That stuff gets your heart going and your head in the game!!!

Speaking of bunnies with questionable chewing habits…. Does anyone else’s buns like wrapping paper? I mean… REALLY like wrapping paper? to the point that they’ll pull the left over scrunched up balls out of the trash and munch on them until they get caught? ’cause apparently the rolls and presents under the tree aren’t good enough for Finn anymore. He’s also taken to chewing on paper…. which is a new. He’s been good about not chewing stuff but now wrapping paper, cardboard, and paper seem to be tastier than willow sticks and hay.

Tanlover I hope you get your new baby!!!! Every now and again I get that insatiable urge to get another pet. That’s why I have Finn. And the hedgehog. And a snail. I’m worried what I’ll want next…. I don’t have any more room!!! And I feel badly for D because he really wants to set up his electric drums in the house but every available inch is taken up with animal cages

It’s weird, caffeine does absolutely nothing for me and not even because I’ve had too much of it so it doesn’t work anymore. I didn’t really start drinking caffeinated beverages until halfway through college, and even then I could drink a cup of coffee and go to sleep haha. tanlover – Trust me, I don’t think I could ever develop a liking of it. I used to work with someone who had (HAD) to get a fancy coffee every single day and bring it to work. She spilled it once. It had whipped cream or something it in. The smell made me dry heave a little. o_O I think I have something different about my taste buds. Orange juice is bitter to me. I can’t drink it, I start to feel sick. I can’t stand anything vinegar based. The taste is awful to me. My husband thinks I’m insane because I say certain vegetables taste “green”. Like green peppers. They taste like grass.

Mike – They have cardboard. They never go to town on it. They did have a phone book awhile back, but I took it away because Leopold was stuffing the shreds of paper in places I couldn’t reach.

Zoologist — it’s funny you mention that! I have had Christmas presents laying around when I first got my little ones back in April (I never went home for Christmas and since decided to just bring them back this Christmas!) but needless to say — we had to hide them all from the buns because all of them took a LOVING to the wrapping paper. Many of said gifts have bunny teeth marks in them… LOL. Oops. This year the tree (AND GIFTS!) are hid from the bratscals so I am without that problem this year!

Thanks S&LH. It sounds incredibly sad. I know there was mention about possible suicides and killings in the “end of the world” thread but whenever it involves children, it’s very difficult to handle. Im grateful for Australias gun laws. I do shelter myself from the news now and then but I feel guilty about it sometimes. It’s like I’m sticking my head in the sand.

Zoologist – Bosse used to LOVE to nibble on napkins. He would steal my napkins all the time, and he’d drag the napkin container out from under the table and rip them out, lol! Also my books, ofc..

I know the feeling of wanting new pets! We didn’t relly have a lot of room for the guinea pigs, but I convinced myself that we did and we got them Yesterday I was on the Norwegian version of Craigslist, and there were two BEAUTIFUL mini rexes.. They are really not common in norway, and man.. One was a lilac-y grey and the other one was silvery-grey.. Just SO beautiful. I had to tell the BF to tell me no, lol. I’ve always wanted a mini rex, and they only recently became a registered breed in Norway. Sigh.
Our limit for future pets, after we’ve gotten a house, is: 1 or 2 rabbits (Bosse + maybe a buddy), 2 guinea pigs (Pelle and a girlfriend) and 2 dogs. Two dogs mostly because we can’t agree on what kind of dog we want. I want a Boston Terrier or a Boxer, and my BF wants a German Shepherd. German Shepherds scare me a little – I was bit by one. I know I know, it’s how they’ve been raised etc, I just can’t help it. I’m slightly scared of dogs. Mostly dogs I don’t know. I’m hoping raising a dog of our own is going to help me with my “fear”, and I’ve wanted a dog my whole life. My parents just got a dog (ofc after I moved out.. I’ve been nagging them for a dog my whole upbringing ), and she is the sweetest thing. She is two, and has a lot of energy. She’s a Golden Retriver, and I can walk her and train her quite well on my own, and I think I’ll be a really good dog-mommy to be honest.

Jersey – Yes, we have a bit of a lobbyist problem here. Apparently our gun laws are less restrictive than most other countries. It’s not my intention to talk about politics though. So I’ll stop there. I just hope something changes. I remember a bunch of people being gunned down inside a department store that I frequented. This was a couple of years ago. I remember my mom being worried that I had gone there that day, but I was in class.

well about 6 months ago a big heavy wood carving all of a sudden after hanging there for a year decided to jump down and bash me on the head.  Oh it hurt.  That thing was heavy.  I stuck that darn thing in a drawer.  Wasn’t hanging it up again.  Didn’t want to knock myself out as the Dr. said.

Well lately I have been having these awful headaches.  I dont’ think they are migraines cuz light noise doesn’t seem to bother me.  Odors do tho.

I should buy stock in headache meds.  I went to the Dr. a week ago finally and he gave me some stuff.  It is all gone.  I went agin today.  He called in some different stuff and told me to use the other when needed also.  this new one is every day.

a cat scan is going to be done.  I doubt there is a tumor.  At least we will find out something even if its nothing.

I took 2 pills  10 this morning ate at 11:30 a balanced lunch went to Dr on the motor home that comes here once a week.  Headache was full force 3 hours later.

Sheesh picked up the new med and still there but not so bad. Yi.

On a good note my bday was yesterday.  Mom sent me a 3 wheel tryke cover and a most beautiful purse a Kathy Zeeland.  One that isn’t heavy.  OMG my eyes about bugged out of my head when I saw that.  She called and left a message singing me happy bday.  She has a good voice.

Cotton is doing good. He has a nice variety of greens rose petals grape stems to eat on.  I even put him a phone book cover to chew since he digs in my box of stuff on top his cage.  HE will find a paper and start chewing lol.  He has it made.

Peppypoo I find when I drink 2 cups max of coffee and take a nap right after I am good to go. And thats caffeinated coffee too

Svandis! My best friend got her 2nd guinea pig yesterday! So now her boy has a friend. She is getting him neutered though since the girl isn’t fixed either then putting them together. The boy is 6 months and the girl is 3 months. And good luck on your exam!

I have to head to the community college here to take my placement testing exam this afternoon. I’m horrible when it comes to public transportation so hopefully for me I get there at the right time and whatnot.

Woohoo! School break is awesome

I have been reading and cooking more from scratch. It is amazing and I feel amazing. It encourages me to find more recipes to create wonderful foods. A lot of the food that I am cooking has no meat in it. Not only does it fill me up, I don’t feel gross and want to lie on the couch. I wake up refreshed and with so much energy.

Right now, I have a falafel mix and quinoa sitting on the kitchen, waiting to be cooked, so I better get back to that :p

It’s warm here, 30+ Celcius. I’ve got four ice bricks ready for the bunny’s trip to the vets tomorrow. I also just put a new base into the girls crate, removed the carpet and put in a cheap fleece blanket I bought during the week… what’s the first thing the girls do?? Pull it up to nibble on the newspaper I put underneath and then piddle on it. Yep, they’ve christened it!!!

I let Finn out early yesterday morning when the boy left for work and decided to trust the little brat and go back to bed for a while. Woke up, did chores, watched tv, whatever, till the boy came home. Went to turn on the lamp next to the couch….. no dice. Last time this happened Finn had chewed through the cord so severely we had to toss the lamp and get a new one. Welp, looks like he got back there again and munched on the cable. -_-. Finn, my little LAMP KILLER.
Luckily boyfriend is nifty with a soldering iron and fixed the lamp. Granted it has a very short cord and we haven’t figured out a permanent way of keeping Finn out from behind the couch area, but it works for now. We also have to figure out a way to get him to stop pulling up the carpet from his spot behind the tv. I put a tissue box full of hay back there for him to play with, but he still prefers pulling up carpet

lovechaha, are you vegan or vegetarian or just trying to eat less meat? We are big meat eaters in this house, although it’s something I would like to cut down on. I don’t think I could go full vegetarian, but I don’t mind eating the vegetarian option when available (lasagna with veggies is MUCH tastier than it’s ground beef counterpart). Plus my boyfriend is a really picky eater. I can’t get him to eat any kind of squash, eggplant, asparagus, etc. which is a shame because I REALLY want to try making zucchini spaghetti! Or baked breaded eggplant sticks.

We had our 2 year anniversary on Thursday and instead of going out to a fancy steak house we decided to stay in and cook together. We made a delicious steak au poivre (I topped mine with lobster, while he topped his with bacon) and individual potatoes au gratin. All from scratch. and it was DELICIOUS! It was so nice to splurge and get the fancy steaks

We ended up with less snow than they predicted, I guess the heaviest snow was pushed northward a little. There were reports of other places losing power, but we were fine here. I was just mad because there was a layer of ice under the snow so that stuff was not coming off this morning. Good thing I didn’t have to be anywhere.

Yes, we have had some warmer weather, as Roberta said. We moved from the UK less than a year ago out here to Western Australia and man do I need to get used to this heat! I know, I know, it’s not even warm yet but it is to me! And Apollo judging by this picture I snapped. I had to try more than three times because I’d end up startling him and he’d thump at me! Naughty mama!

Hi BunnyGirl, Fill up some empty plastic bottles (125 ml soft drink are the best) with water and freeze them. Put atleast one in his cage and he will love it. Anything over 27C is bad for bunnies and they can get heat stroke, the ice bottles will also help keep him from getting too hot.

Wow, not much happening around here. I’m tired and I have to be up WAY too early tomorrow and Sunday. Seriously, who is going to be shopping at 6am? Thankfully this is the last weekend before Christmas.

I’m a little uneasy about Christmas this year. We were invited to go over to my brother’s house. I don’t know. It just seems like my sister-in-law doesn’t like me. She unfriended me awhile back for no apparent reason. It also seems like there is some sort of inside joke going on. It’s hard to explain.

Sooo — I made a decision last night guys! I’m officially going to school to be a nurse rather than an accountant! I’m registered for classes at our local community college but I made the decision last night to apply to Nursing School here at our hospital. If I don’t get in, then I’m just going to continue to go through our community college taking classes that will transfer until I can get in!

Svandis! My best friend got her 2nd guinea pig yesterday! So now her boy has a friend. She is getting him neutered though since the girl isn’t fixed either then putting them together. The boy is 6 months and the girl is 3 months. And good luck on your exam!

I went to the markets and got the usual red oakleaf lettuce and bok choy and bought some more basil plants (a purple and a fine leaf), a capsicum (pepper) and some red lettuce seedlings. I also planted out some leafy chicory (Cichorium intybus) that i bought last week… not obvious to tell who I’m planting them for!!

We’ve also had a few scuffles with the girls, I think it’s mainly “No I don’t want to cuddle with you, it’s too hot and my belly’s a bit tender” and not big ‘fur flying’ fights.

Now on a sour vinegar note.  Fouad likes to cook with vinegar.  Ok a little bit is ok. Last nite was a little too much but I ate it it was good.  Rice gravy bread little vinegar.  I told him was a little too much.

So tonite he put more.  I was hungry he said go eat its ready. I took the  lid off my nose hairs curled right up.  I opened the windows to get the smell out b4 Cotton froze  up with huge eyes. 

Took a bite.  OMG Fouad said mix it so I did  OMG.  I can’t eat that.  HE sat down started eating.  I said too much vinegar just put a capful not a cupful.  HE said I didn’t put a cupful.  I said well just a capful. 

After a bit I made some corn.  He ate most of it I mixed it with corn still to much vinegar.  He didn’t make rice tonite.  Might have helped. He said you are right it is too much.  But he ate most of it.  I dont’ see how he can and he will eat burnt bread too.  Huh?  lol.  His mom told him grows hair on your chest   lol.   I dont’ want hair on my chest I tell him lol.

I tell him if it doesn’t taste good you don’t have to eat it.  He is funny about food.

Oh there is a pot of meat and lots of soupy juice on the stove he says not to eat. Thats where the juice for the bread n rice comes from.  I tell hiim Gee there is food on the stove I am not allowed to eat but I get to eat this that I can hardly eat upsetting my stomache and my mouth is still puckered.   lol.  Putting more juice from that pot would help a lot.

No Fouad isn’t eating out of the meat pot either.  I don’t understand his reasoning. Oh well.  This dish is really good without  so much vinegar.  really good.

I don’t know about this vinegar tho sure curls the nosehairs.  The worst part is its apple cidar vinegar.  Whats with the vinegar on BB I don’t know.

Made it to South Carolina for the holidays in one piece. This was after spending the weekend in south Florida. I think Finn is going to be happy with staying put in one place for a while. So doing a last minute wild fennel harvest at the new spot on Wattle Av in the Nowergup Valley. I pick roads by the market gardens that get little to no traffic then bring it home and put it through a soak rinse soak rinse cycle. For the first time EVER someone stopped and asked what I was doing. Not threatening just curious, had I not been walking back across the small country road at the time he probably would not have stopped, he thought I was picking ferns for flower arrangements, when I said “No, It’s for my house rabbits, they love wild fennel” he stopped, looked perplexed, pondered a moment then asked “Rabbits?”, Me “Yes, Rabbits, House Rabbits, I couldn’t let them have Xmas with out fennel, it’s their favourite” Him “Rabbits? Oh.. OK, Have a Merry Xmas” I had to have a giggle as he left looking thoroughly confused but to his credit at no time did he make comments about fattening them up or eating them rather than feeding them.

Oh, My birthday presents included two square raised portable aluminium garden beds. Filling the bottom half with bunny waste and will top up with soil then fill with bunny food seedlings.

I’ve had similar comments about fattening up my rabbits Roberta, but at roughly 1.5kg the girls are the poultry equivalent of a spatchcock and of course fluffy bunnies put most of their energy into their fluff and not meat.

They sound spoilt getting wild fennel!!

They adore fennel, they go absolutely mad for it. Don’t know what I am going to do in high Summer when its impossible to find. I don’t understand why the grocers don’t sell bunches of the leaves. there are so many recipes out there that use the leaves of the wild fennel, not the Florence fennel bulb which you can get everywhere (with the fronds hacked off).

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!!

The buns went back to New York with us BUT we had to come back early because of the huge snow storm coming through so we basically took the bunnies for nothing so we only went for the day. The poor bunnies spent 9 hours in the car total yesterday and they about 12 hours being in the new spot we had set up for them at my grandmas. They were stressed but they were okay I think. They kept digging around in the carrier and the carrier was definitely big enough to hold them… but boy were they happy when we got home to be back in their bunny condo! Hahaha. They were rolling in the hay and munching around like the happiest little hoppies ever.

Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas! My grandma gave us money and then bought us a bunch of little gifts otherwise. And then my boyfriend got me a huge Angry Bird stuffed animal, a bunch of K-Cup variety packs, and a really nice picture printer so I can use it for my scrapbooking and anything else I want to use it for!

The time is getting closer to find out if we get the fourth bunny! AHHHHH. Hopefully Jan-Feb is when we’ll find out.

I have to take my entrance exam for Nursing on the 11th so I’ve been trying to study for that!

I officially have a future sister in law My big brother proposed to his girlfriend yesterday. I met her for the first time yesterday as well (we work different times so it is hard to get together) and I LOVE HER. She is so amazing. She works for a non-profit and is really cool. They have two rescue dogs named Maddy and Fenway. I’m so excited

I officially become a pescatarian. After going a week without red meat, chicken, or pork, I like the way that my body feels and my mood is a lot more lighter. I”ve done a lot of reading and it isn’t that hard to get all of my essential nutrients in a day’s worth of food I also still eat fish, and on days that I don’t, I throw in hemp seeds (which has OMEGAs in it) into my soy yogurt or cereal with almond milk (8 oz of almond milk is equal to 50% daily value of B12, woot!). I’m going to make either egg plant pasta with tofu and a spinach salad or tostada with veggie meat substitue with veggies tonight. Hmmmmmmmmm decisions, decisions!

Well Christmas is over. Am I the only one that is glad it’s over? This time of year is so depressing. I have to suffer through family functions where I am reminded of how much a failure I am. Even if no one comes out and says it, I know they are wondering why I’m not (how should I say this?) further along. It just makes me sad. Then I got the Christmas newsletter from my undergrad school. The professors from my department are all talking about how great things are going there. It makes me feel worse because I miss it there so much. Yet I feel as though I was abandoned by them as well. I wanted to go to visit, but it seems every time I do no one has time to visit with me. Was I that bad of a student? Then I get reminded of the job I applied for there and did not get. Admittedly, I was desperate and there were likely others much more qualified than I.

Sorry, I’m rambling. I don’t mean to depress others.

LBJ, if you get so depressed and feel like a failure for not being more successful, it’s time to make a change. Get to work on that thesis, even if you feel like its impossible. The only way it will get finished is if you just sit down and do it. The only person responsible for your success is you. Once it is done, you don’t have to worry about it anymore, and you won’t have to worry about your troubles with your advisors either. Thats 2 depressing, stressful things gone. Look towards the good that w =ill come in your life instead of dwelling on the bad stuff.

 

And, if you are still depressed, it may be time to talk to a doctor, and possible get help for it. You aren’t the only one that gets all bummed about life. It isn’t a bad thing to get help if you need it.

Monkeybun, yes, the school situation isn’t helping. That isn’t the only thing that is “wrong” though. Unfortunately, I don’t see things changing anytime soon. Depression is nothing new. I’ve tried seeing someone in the past, but it never gets me anywhere. What’s worse is that I tried going to see someone at school. Turned out it was someone that was in my research class. She was doing her whatever you want to call it to get certified. I never went back.

Thats great, ChaCha! I’m happy for you and the new decision that you decided to make! It’s admirable for sure, not sure I could ever go without meat! Sometimes… I think its because it’s almost like it’s more time-consuming to figure out all the stuff and it’s so much easier to just order a burger!!! I’m proud of you for going without though! Takes self-discipline I’m sure for anything like that. I haven’t tried out that tea yet! I keep forgetting every time I go to the store!

LBJ, Thanks for the encouragement! It’s an entrance exam where you have to get above the 50th percentile to be considered for the school. Then I send in my transcripts and then thats when they decide officially to be accepted or not. I’m nervous! Also, I completely agree with MonkeyBun! If you don’t feel like you can handle all this, it wouldn’t hurt to try some anti-anxiety or depression medicine! I struggled with anxiety for quite a while (which almost sounds like you have! — I know I just couldn’t focus and get everything done because I was always so worried about EVERYTHING!) It really drove me nuts. My doctor put me on Celexa to help with the anxiety and it really did help! It doesn’t make me feel weird or anything. It’s really great for just calming down and thinking things through rather than stressing to the point where I get overwhelmed and get nothing done. You should really look into or talk to your doctor about it. It helped me tremendously when I went through a stressful point. If it works, then YAY! And if it doesn’t, then you can just stop taking it! It really helped me.

tanlover – Oh I see. So a qualifying exam then. You have to know enough stuff for them to be confident you will do well in the program. Did they give you anything to study for that?
I have taken medication in the past. They always made me feel weird. One of them seemed to make my brain stop working. Everything was blank and I couldn’t think very well. Another made me so hyper that I talked to the point where people thought I was insane and extremely annoying. It was like there was no off switch. You know, like when you’re a hyper 13 year old girl. It was like that. I don’t know. I think I would just feel better if I didn’t have all this stuff hanging over my head. I went to school because I couldn’t get a job that paid enough to make a decent living. I thought school was the only answer. Now I’m in A LOT of debt and I still can’t find a job. How can we have a future if I can’t afford to pay all this debt that will come due soon? We won’t be able to own a home or a decent car or anything nice. Forget about having kids. Not that I am sure if that is something I really want or not. But it doesn’t seem very feasible anyway. How can anyone blame me for being depressed? I worse off than I was before and a whole lot older.

Wow, I just went back and read that. You guys must think pretty awful of me. It seems I do nothing but complain. I have no one to talk to, so I’m sorry if I am annoying to anyone.

LBJ, pescatarian is a person that does not consume beef, chicken, or pork, but will still consume seafood. Dairy is also ok, but I do as little dairy as possible, and prefer almond milk, vegan butter (I can’t taste the difference, my dad and my boyfriend can’t either), and the occasional soy yogurt. My favorite cereal is muesli, which is rolled oats, fruit and nuts, with blueberries, strawberries, hemp seeds, and almond milk.

Thanks tanlover I just got sick and tired of how I felt after eating meat and researched a lot. I ended up doing a lot of crying about how animals are treated. Food tastes differently and I’m trying things I never thought I would! I am constantly thinking of new things to make Tomorrow I will try my hand at vegetarian (crumbling tempeh, a soy product from Indonesia) sloppy joes for lunch and eggplant pasta with spinach salad for dinner

My Nachos is vegetarian…. Yes it has cheese and sour cream but that’s fine as long as you are not going the full vegan. There are many sensational curries that are vegan too and I have previously created a pasta sauce with lentils and nutmeat after finding out at the last minute a dinner guest was vegetarian. It can be done and more simply than one realises. ALAS I love meat and do need it regularly or I feel quite ill. Could have something to do with my wheat/gluten allergy.

Hahah, nachos are good. I plan on completely cutting out dairy in the future, but I’m not going to in the meantime as I adjust to the cooking that I am doing right now. There is so much calcium in many other foods besides dairy products. Vegetables, beans, almonds, brazil nuts, milk substitutes (almond, soy, hemp, sunflower, rice milk) etc. A lot of people here in the states have a gluten/wheat allergy or are gluten intolerant. I have read about wheat and how the quality has gone downhill so much over the past few decades 😐 As a grocery cashier, it is interesting to see how different people eat.

Lemmeeeeeeeee see Pascal! I’m so sad to hear that people are already dumping rabbits. SIGH. It makes me so angry that people do not want to open their hearts and minds to such beautiful creatures.

Aww, LBJ. No one thinks bad of you. All that stuff sounds and I’m sure is extremely stressful. Especially after spending all those years at school and still having nothing to show for it. I really think you should just go ahead and get your thesis out of the way and then move forward. Or start a list of everything you need to have done and what order you need to do it in and then slowly make your way through the list. You obviously feel like you have and are accomplishing nothing so you need to try and turn your mindset around (obviously easier said than done). Going into depression about this all will only make everything worse and possibly even make it seem worse, like you will never be able to crawl out of this situation. It sounds really vital that you put some pressure off yourself, sit back, and analyze. Putting yourself down will absolutely get you nowhere. You just need to analyze your situation and figure out how to move forward. If you need help, I will (and I’m sure many on here) will be willing to help you figure out a game plan. Step Number One: Stop putting yourself down!!!

I’m skeptical about the amount of people with “gluten allergies” here. With most people, its them following the fad, and thinking they feel better with it. The placebo effect is real, people. You think it, you feel it. Not as many people are actually allergic to it, they just think they are because so many other people say its a bad thing.

I always thought that a gluten allergy was something that was difficult to diagnose. You have to be tested for other stuff first to rule things out and they have to do blood tests to look for certain anti-bodies. I wonder if people feel better, not because it is a placebo effect, but because they are just eating healthier by default. If you’re avoiding gluten, then you’re probably eating a lot more fruits and vegetables to make up for it.

Mayo Clinic says you should always avoid:

Beer, Breads, Cakes and pies, Candies, Cereals, Cookies and crackers, Croutons, French fries, Gravies, Imitation meat or seafood, Matzo, Pastas, Processed luncheon meats, Salad dressings, Sauces, including soy sauce, Seasoned rice mixes, Seasoned snack foods, such as potato and tortilla chips, Self-basting poultry, Soups and soup bases, Vegetables in sauce

tanlover – The first step is getting comps out of the way. I have to find the time to schedule those and somehow remain focused enough to do them. You are given a new question each day and you have 24 hours to answer each. I was told that some people have written 8 pages just to answer one question. Scares the crap out of me since I have had so much difficulty writing lately. After that, I have to come up with a thesis proposal. I need to decide if I want to continue with my current thesis topic (which has been wildly unpopular) or come up with a new one. It really doesn’t matter because I never even made it to the formal proposal stage yet.

I got another rejection letter today (email). I knew I didn’t have a chance in hell for that one. I was surprised they got back so quickly since the deadline to apply was Friday. Oh well. I was hoping to get some extra hours at work (beyond my normal ~10 hours a week). It is pretty clear that that is not going to happen. I’m not sure what to do in that department. Looks like I will be taking out yet another student loan.

It can be very hard to pinpoint in the early stages…sometimes just bloating and a feeling of lethargy I have also recently discovered that the older ways of baking tended to neutralize the effect as the wheat and yeast is aged properly that is why it has become more prevalent in our “Want it Now” society and everything is produced rapidly… Thankfully there are some really good options now, Gluten free pasta use to be revolting, our local cafe/restaurant prepares so well you wouldn’t know the difference.

I find it amazing how many alternatives there are – rice flour, quinoa flour, and so on. I’m happy that people that cannot have wheat have the ability to enjoy the food pleasures of life just with alternatives

As someone with a wheat/gluten allergy I can attest to the gruesomeness of it.. The reactions can very from wheezing and swelling of the tongue to violent nausea and diarhhea that can last up to 3 days. My local pizzeria thought they could switch out my GF base one day when they had run out… I took my nausea back to them and threatened them with legal action if it happened again. Just goes to show many people especially those in the food industry think it is a put on, there are also many people who do not have an allergy that chose to go GF purely for the health benefits.

It exists and a lot of people don’t know that they are intolerant to it. As LBJ stated, wheat is in absolutely everything. I find it amazing how many alternatives there are – rice flour, quinoa flour, and so on. I’m happy that people that cannot have wheat have the ability to enjoy the food pleasures of life just with alternatives

Yes, this is what I meant. I know someone who actually has a gluten allergy and it can be pretty bad. Monkeybun was talking about how some people think they have a gluten allergy, even though they don’t seek an official diagnosis. They simply decide to cut out gluten to see how they feel. I think some people feel better simply because they aren’t eating a bunch of crap anymore since gluten is in a lot of things that are bad for you.

Definitely. I may or may not eat the purple carrots in my fridge but they had the longest and best carrot tops!
Plus it’s amusing when I give them some of those carrots because they get gothic look lips.

@Roberta: Pascal is a gorgeous bun! I think you’re in trouble though… him being a silver marten. Will you be able to part with him?

Hi Jersey Girl… It’s going to be hard… He’s actually a Silver Fox, twice the size of the Martens. He’s also pure bred and was rescued from a breeder. He has the most amazing personality. I think they may be very similar to Tan Lovers babies as they come in Lilacs, Blues and Browns as well as the black. Jerseygirl – OMG, Franken Berry Stool! LOL

So I had something nice happen today (for once). A girl came up to me and said she recognized me from her field trip. I asked her what school and she told me. I actually remembered the school. LOL Then I asked her what her favorite part was. She said the baby frogs. Isn’t that sweet? I didn’t tell her that they are all dead now. =\

Well, the rabbits made out pretty good today. I got a gift card to the store I buy their food at. I got them a big bag of Oxbow, a bag of oat hay, and a grass thing that I thought they could play with. Only cost me $6 out of pocket.

I love taking advantage of good sales online Lush Cosmetics (cruelty free) was holding a buy one, get on free on all of their Christmas goodies Instead of spending over $50, I got all of the stuff for $28! I needed to replace some eyeliner, and eyeshadow anyhow. The other things I got were a shower gel that smells like bubble gum O_O

 

The mister and I are going south to attend his college friend’s wedding. He agreed to get lunch at a vegetarian eatery in the city, so I’m busy researching places to nom for lunch! 

 

My eggplant pasta with tofu with tomato basil sauce was a success! Now I need to learn how to make pasta sauce from scratch  Today for lunch is cod with green beans, potatoes, and mushrooms! I still eat fish

LBJ that’s awesome that she remembers you that’s always a nice perk to a cool job. I still have a couple of thank you notes I received from students from when they came to my island for a field trip and I showed them all of the turtles and snakes in our nature center.

zoologist, yes I have some thank you notes too. Some of them are really cute. It’s nice to be remembered. Sometimes I think kids don’t care and they are just happy not to be at school. LOL, I’ve even been told that this was the worst field trip ever. Ouch. o_O
