After my Significant Other said I could get a bunny, I naturally began joking around about adopting another one.  Well, he has finally said yes, but now I am not so sure I want to (I just feel more like Arduina would be happier with a friend).  Here are my thoughts:

        The pluses:

        Arduina will have a playmate

A rescue bunny will have a happy home

The reason we all have bunnies.. another exciting adorable fun bunny!

        The minuses:

        More money spent on food/litter

        Added time cleaning

Double the stuff gets destroyed by destructo-bunnies.

Would Arduina not be as friendly toward us with a new companion?   Would the new bunny not be as friendly to us since we would have never had human-bunny bonding before bunny-bunny bonding?  I’ve never had two bunnies at once.

Also, Arduina is free-range, she has her own bedroom where she is out 24/7, and then when we are home, she gets run of the house.  So I am not sure how to go about bonding another bunny with her since her space is everywhere (according to her).  I would also feel guilty having her out running around a new bunny stuck in a cage.  I guess I would have to temporarily keep the new bunny out of the ‘bunny room’ until they are completely bonded.  Either way, she would get to pick her new friend (bunny dating!).

        What do you guys think?

i think in my mind that yes there will be extra care and money but i think its worth it. you could keep the other bunny in a different room until they are bonded and if she is litter trained she could run around free range in that room then you wouldn’t have to feel so bad on not letting her out.

Chances are they would both need to be caged during the bonding period. Having them contained (and switching cages daily) is going to force them to get used to each other’s smell. After this time tho, you could slowly reintroduce both to being free-range. There is an increased cost, for most of us food and litter isn’t that big of a deal… the real kicker is vet care. Vets don’t offer a “two-for-one” deal on services. It’s a personal decision that you’ll have to make. Nothing is saying you must get a second if you’re content with one. It sounds like she’s getting plenty of exercise and people interaction.
