Deaf?

SO I had posted before about Oreo being scared or freakin out anytime she sees or hears anything she just goes balistic.

I am starting to think that Oreo might be deaf. The reason I say this is because I can make a loud noise etc and she doesnt move, I can talk to ehr when coming into the room it makes no difference I walk in the room and next thing u know 5 minutes after being there when she sees me she freaks right out, or anyone.

She has a cateract on her one eye so to me I think she may be sight impaired in that eye and the whole being deaf or not hearing well I need some tips.

does she respond to movement?  i don’t know if vets can do tests to check for that in animals… but i wonder if when you walk in the room… if you move your feet more deliberately… not stomping per se… but put your feet down solidly, maybe she’ll sense the movement?

my vet said that when I walk in the room and talk to ehr lettin her know I am there if she doesnt move until I am right in the room and then freaks after me being in there for over 2 minutes chances are she is deaf. So I am jsut tryin anything right now the poor thing gets so scared

Oh, poor sweet Oreo. What kind of flooring is in your house, I am just wondering on the vibration in the floor that she can pick up.

If you really think she is deaf, try to approach her from the side at an angle where she can see you.  Having a cateract I know might make this almost impossible, but may help alleviate some of her stress at your "sudden" appearance.

My bunny Grace is blind, but not deaf, but does have the same reaction when people come up behind her. She can’t really sense where people are so she startles very easily. One way I help her with this is once I approach her I give her an extremely light pet on her ear or back, really just a very very light tap – which seems to warn her without completely frightening her that someone is behind her. Also, that light tap gets her to perk her ears up and get her wits about her so that when I pet her a second time she is expecting it more.

Her cage is far from the ground so she doesn’t feel much of the foot steps. Tryin to still go in front words to her…but she seems to eb adjusting a bit better now I am working on things. I have started to when going in the kitchen to get down at her levelso when she turns it doesnt look like a giant. I am going to try the whole callin her with herbs and see how it works out. Thanks for the tips
