so today, dasher got her stitches out from being spayed. I let her run around with our other bunny, dutch, who dasher is very friendly towards and visa versa. Dasher, however was pooping everywhere! I looked in her cage and saw that she was still using the litter box, so this is a new behavior. up until today she was fine and well potty trained, so i think it may because the stitch removal. does anyone have any experience and advice on this? thanks!

How long ago was she spayed? She could still be hormonal, and this sounds like it could be territorial pooping because shes around another bun to me. Are they or were they ever bonded?

She was spayed 14 days ago. Dasher and dutch aren’t truly bonded but they are extremely friendly towards each other and have been sense day 1. The most aggression I’ve seen and I always supervise is dasher taking food from my hand when I was hand feeding dutch to get him used to eating food from my hand.

14 days ago is not enough for hormones to die down as it takes longer for female buns. Definitely sounds like territorial poop.

How is her wound site healing? Since she got spayed fairly recently I think it’s better to still keep her away from Dutch until she has completely recovered and her hormones have fully died down. You won’t know when one or both of them will start getting aggressive (although you’ve not seen it so far, but it only takes a second for them to turn). Is Dutch neutered?

Dutch is way to young to be neutered, he just turned 3 months 2 days ago. And dashes surgery site is doing very well. I also found out that we may given her way to many treats, so that might have something to do with it. My wife gave her one but dasher managed to steal some from from the bag.

The territorial poops are sadly going to keep happening until they’re bonded (if you plan on bonding them), My boys aren’t bonded yet, and 85% of my night is sweeping up the mess of territorial poops that come with them not being bonded. Anyone on BB who has an instagram has probably seen the poop mess in the background of different photos xD

We are planning on bonding them. Do you have any tips? For the last couple of times dasher has been grooming dutch, so we think it’s going to be an easier bond.

Prebonding. I can’t emphasize it enough. After Dutch has been neutered, take 1-2 months to swap them between their enclosures every day. You want to make sure that there’s no aggression when they are in the other buns’ cage. A stuffie is another good idea during prebonding. Give each one a stuffed animal and swap those between them. Some buns are a tad humpy, so you’ll get to see that with a stuffie, also you’ll get to see if they look aggressive or alright with the other bun. Once you’ve prebonded for a least a month and see no aggression when they’re in the opposite’s cage, then you can start short bonding sessions in neutral territory. Start with 10 minute sessions and when they can go 10 minutes without any incidents increase it by 10 minutes each time until you hit 60 minutes. When you hit 60 minutes with no aggression you can start upping the increments to 30-60 minutes longer. And always end a session on a positive or a neutral note. Never end on biting, fur pulling, chasing, or boxing.
