I cleaned out Daphny’s litterboxes and her x-pen area, and noticed that since then, she’s been having dark brown poops. They are the same size as normal, just much darker. I don’t know what could have caused a darker color, or if this is a bad thing.

she may be laying territorial poops. they’re darker and have a very distinct scent.

Daphny does not have a companion right now, as her bonded sister, Misty, passed away last month.  She did just meet 2 rabbits at the local SPCA, but I have not adopted or brought another rabbit home yet.  Could this be a response to meeting them?  She didn’t really seem interested in the two rabbits she met, but didn’t seem intimidated by them either.  I’ve never seen this dark color before.

Can you think of any small change you may have made to her diet, like going from green leaf to romaine lettuce? Or new treats? Spinach perhaps? (Which has more iron that makes human poops darker.)

Veggies can do it.  Has she been eating less hay?

Qu: Katie, do you think the “distinct smell” is onion-y?  I’m trying to determine what this is with Jersey.
