Hi everyone! Hope all is well 🙂

My bunny, Gerard, was really happy this morning, doing zoomies and binkies all over the place. He seemed perfectly normal, until an hour ago he peed a dark brown, small splotch!! I want to make sure this is normal (lmk if you can’t see the photo) before taking him to the vet.

        Backstory

We have this other little kitten who always sneaks her way into my Gary’s room. He has this specific area he likes to go to and just relax (where the photo was taken).  Well, this little girl wants to be him so bad, that she goes into his area and tries her best imitating him. Right before he had his little accident, she laid down there while he had to move places somewhere else. What I think might’ve happened was him marking his territory, and was a little dehydrated (from the brown). His urine is usually a golden-amber colour.

        Aftermath

He seems just fine alhamdulilah. However,  he seems very mad at my cat. He’s eating normally, but we have to see what poops are like later this afternoon. His poops were normal this morning.

I would also like to state he’s not neutered, but hopefully will be soon. Thank you!! He says hi.

Hi, for my bunny I went to the vet when this happened and my vet told me that my poor little bun bun was dehydrated. I then had to monitor the intake of water and had to make sure the urine changed back to a safe color within a week. But bunny should be fine if they get a more water. If not I would go see someone.

Dehydration can make bunny pee dark. Sometimes they tip their bowl over, or it gets very warm and the bun forgets to drink. If your bun gets fresh greens, you could serve them freshly rinsed and dripping wet for a while, just so you know he gets enough water in him.

The dark color can also in part be from oxidation taking place after the bun has peed. I’ve seen that happen, it only takes like 15 minutes for orange pee to turn almost alarmingly red. The pigmens  that color the pee amber/orange come from plants (carotenoids) and they’re normal and harmless.
<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>Cats and rabbits can sometimes have difficulty “reading” each other. And as you know, rabbits are highly territorial and they do like to mark their area so everybunny (and evercatty) else knows whose territory theyre in. This doesnt mean the kitten and Gary wont ecer be friends, but it seems Gary might have felt his area was being invaded.</p>
