Dangers of Scissor Clipping – Personal NOT Bunny

As some of you may know Piglet as a French Angora has presented many grooming problems and despite spending a small fortune at the groomers a few months ago he has developed a felt mat on his back and under his neck. I have been spending an hour several times a week gently clipping along the hairline with a pair of surgical scissors and have made great progress. Most of the time whilst displeased he has been very well behaved and is content to nibble the waistband of my yoga pants and offer the occasional lick to my arm as I worked.

 Well tonight he decided to try something different and I am not impressed !!!! Sitting in my lap as usual we were almost done for tonight and had made wonderful progress which must be making hi so much more comfortable. I was just congratulating both us, me for achieving what I had so far without injury or distress to Piglet and him for being such a good boy WHEN he swings his head round and lands a chomp square on the left nipple. Thankfully he is a nipper not a biter, I let out a shriek in shock and Piglet recoiled in horror when he thought he had hurt me. After several minutes of cuddling and nose scratches we resumed and managed to get another clump free without pain or injury (to either of us)

Next time I am wearing a breast plate or a conical bra…. Little savage !!!

Piglet is now in the play area binkying…. I have promised him free range of the sun room for a few hours next time if he behaves himself and keeps his teeth to himself.

LOL oh goodness…that would have been disastrous for me – my left nipple is pierced and very finicky. It gets bumped or looked at the wrong way and it’s like it just got pierced all over again for a week.

Good work getting his mats out, though! I don’t have bunnies that mat, but my dog is an Irish Setter and her matting problem miserable – and she’s a snapper when I try to cut them myself. *sigh* I just pay someone else to deal with them.

Possibly my fault for grooming him whilst I was wearing yoga pants and a cotton tank top. Next time I shall have to ensure more fortified under garments. YES.. a piercing definitely would have been an added liability. All of them have very good teeth.
I tried paying people and honestly they achieved nothing, they didn’t get into the undercoat that French Angoras are notorious for. I don’t get it how can the groomer at a rabbit savvy vet charge $250 for a shave do a half arsed job and then declare she does not have the right clippers. How do they shave the buns for surgery ??? Obviously this child was too lazy to ask the vet for the right tools. Mean while my beloved Piglet has to pay the consequences.

Have you considered getting a pair of clippers? I used clippers on Wooly once. It was after returning home from vacation. I had left the rabbits in my mom’s care and I have absolutely no clue what happened to his fur. He had a horseshoe shaped mat that ran down one side, around his rump, and then back up the other side. He gets mats ever now and then, but normally they are just little things I can use the scissors to lop off. Oh well, the clippers worked anyway. I had to corral him in a laundry basket though.

Oh my. The little rascal. Glad he didn’t hurt you. I can so see Stickers doing that, she loves to nip me on the tummy/on the butt. Next time wear a sweatshirt for protection!

I’ve been bitten on the boob before. Doesn’t feel too good! Pretty bad when you have to wear armor to groom a little bunny. Bindi bites my forearms. During molting, my arms are full of little bruises, I have to cover up so I don’t look like a freak in public!

Well, plus side is he’s obviously comfortable with the whole grooming routine now lol
