So I’m curious, any of you folks who may pick fresh dandies for your buns…. You know how that milky whtie substance comes from the base of the stem, right?

Well no matter HOW careful I am when picking, (I know, I need an apron or something), I ALWAYS wind up getting a spot of dandelion blood on my clothes. (And I call it that because when it dries, it turns an ugly, baby-poo brown just like blood that WILL NOT COME OFF NO MATTER WHAT I DO!!)

Anybody have this problem besides crazy me? And any idea what to use to remove this gunk? I’ve tried every cleaner known to man, and some unknown ones, and I can’t get rid of this stuff!

And what really chaps me is the latest victim of my wardrobe ws a nice sunny colored tee that I can’t bleach unless I want the color  to wash out. Not that bleach does any good anyway.

        Halp! 0_o

why dont u use scissors to cut the stems then the stuff wont go on your hands but will go on the blades, you can then just wash them and avoid any stains

Actually, I pull them as fast as I can, (sometimes cut them too), and try to get them into a baggie so I don’t come into contact with the goo, but for some reason, no matter how hard I try, I just can’t avoid the occasional stain. >.< The stem must whip back when I'm not looking and mark me.

I think I’m just going to have to leave out ONE dandie-picking shirt and not care how muddied it gets. *sigh*

It won’t matter soon, as winter is going to overtake us any day here, but I’d like some reference for the future.

ugh winter lasts from January – December here. We had a few nice weeks there in april/may and we had one nice week about a month ago, but thats it. There are 8 places with flood warnings and it just doesnt stop raining. Its awful what happened to our summers? Thankfully we dont get any snow here so thats a big plus but its still cold stupid england >.<

MimzMum not to change the subject but since I’m still a new bun owner…what part of the dandelion can the buns eat? Flowers and everthing? Sorry this may sound stupid but I’m still trying to get a list together of good and bad. There are lists out there but don’t list it to the detail like tops only, high in calcium, high in sugar etc etc. We have a yard of dandies here and the pickings would be huge!!!

Aw, Charlie would love that! He reminds me of the rhinos in Ice Age when they find a dandelion. He eats them and then binkies around for a while!

lolz…it’s funny, both my buns love the dandelion, stems, leaves and flowers….only Mimz eats the flower stem first, and Pippi eats it bud first. Either way you hear this bizarre ‘through a straw’ chewing sound that is a crack-up to watch as well!

But I am picky with my dandies…the flowers must be perfect, no seeds or buggy/dirty/wilted spots and leaves that are completely green, no blotchy brown markings. ^_^
I’m a little obsessed, yes. *blush*

Yeah, in Alaska, there’s two seasons: mosquitoes and no mosquitoes.
Yards here are 99% dandelion, and the remaining 1 % is fought over by plantain, yarrow, wild strawberry and fireweed. ^_^

And Iv’e even tried using Coca-Cola to try to remove that stain…no dice. *tosses shirt*

What I know (nerd alert) apparently the sap contains rubber (latex), resin and some sort of bitter medicine (glutaraldehyde????). So good luck with that.

Personally, I’d go with the dandie-picking-only-clothes idea

                                Latex, huh? *thinks* Hmmmmm.

I also tried nail polish remover. No good.

Yah, I think I’ll just use it for picking. Then when it gets really bad, I guess I’ll just dye it black or something. ^_^
