I had Daisy spayed on Thursday of last week. She did wonderful and is now back to normal. However I do have one question. I have always heard that spaying a rabbit makes them totally different and more calm and laid back after they are spayed. How long is it usually before you see the new bunny personality come out. And What all actually changes? Thanks

I’m sure it varies a bit but around a month the hormones die down at least for males. Not sure about females. When the hormones die down you’ll start to see a calmer bun, hopefully.

i wouldn’t say totally different.  your bun should stay the same personality wise… but aggression and territorial behavior should decrease.  some rabbits will always be more high-strung, some will be more calm.  i saw a difference in aggression immediately after Mead’s surgery.  it can usually take about a month or two for hormones to completely get out of the system.  Meadow actually calmed way down, but now she’s been up to some of her old antics again, minus the aggression.

yes – I’d agree with Beka, Daisy is likely to be a bit more calm and less territorial – but won’t suddenly have a different personality.
It can take a few months for all those hormones to calm down though.

Jessica stopped biting and lunging immediately!  She was on cage rest for about 3 days post spay.  She also needed to be force fed.  She also tolerates pets alot better.  All those things happened immediately.  Her litterbox habits got better within weeks.  Now she’s only aggressive during craisin time.  Her personality is still the same, just the bloodletting has ceased!

I must be really blessed with a great rabbit. She isn’t aggressive at all and never has been, so Im thankful for that but she is territorial. Shes litter box trained but yesterday she was eating celery in the floor and all of the sudden she runs jumps up on the couch I am sitting on and decides to pee. She never does this except before when she was in heat she did it. So I am hoping this gets better. And she always pees in her litterbox but many of her poop pellets don’t make it in there when shes in her cage, is it possible that this will improve also?
                  Thanks for the help

that behavior should probably decrease if not stop.  some rabbits will always leave poops about, but as long as the pee is only in the box, that is a really good thing.  the couch was probably a territorial thing since you were sitting on it.  my rabbit does not pee on the couch, but if my husband is sitting on it, she will thump on the floor loudly b/c he’s on “her turf”.  this is post spay, btw.

Jessica’s potty habits fluctuated greatly until her spay.  She became litterbox perfect post spay.  Oddly enough I haven’t even had the territorial pee issues since her spay….she used to love peeing on the couch and cat beds.
