So they spent the night together in the x pen.  There was poo everywhere (no surprise) and one small tuft of fur in there.  The reason we decided to let them spend the night together was that they were grooming and snuggleing each other all last evening.  So, I’m sure it’s been asked, but does bonded mean that they can live together, or that they love each other?  Can we call it bonded yet?

Keep them together, in the xpen, for the next two weeks. Just go in to clean up and then let them be. That wil help to cement the bond. I guess “bonded” means they can live together and they get along, altho sometimes it’s love, sometimes it’s friendship… sometimes they more or less tolerate each other.

Great response Beka, because I was thinking of doing something like that, although I didn’t think 2 weeks. So are you saying that they shouldn’t even have any free range time? I was thinking of keeping them in the cage to work on their litterhabits and I guess my thinking is that if they have to coexist in this space, they will begin to see it as “their” space and not have the need to mark it up.

No free range during this time. It’s important that they are in close quarters the whole “Honeymoon period” so they will absolutely figure out that “that other guy” isn’t going anywhere. They should always be within about 8 feet of each other. You could maybe set-up another xpen to expand their space a little bit, but no larger than that area. That will also help with the pooping hopefully. Since they’re not being split up and reintroduced constantly, the need to mark should decrease within the next couple weeks I’d say.

This morning I let them out in the room where their cage is, cleaned the cage, and now they are back in their cage grooming the heck out of each other. We are well on our way to a successful marriage! Once Daisy decides that the litterbox is a good thing, then I’ll call the deal sealed.

I think the deal is nearly sealed on Daisy and Ruffles. They lay together, eat together, follow each other around. Right now, they are both in their cottontail cottage sleeping together, and that’s a pretty small space. There’s no more fur flying, no chasing, no nipping, no nothing. I’m not going to call it deep love, but they are def going to be soon. Daisy has still not been great with the litter, so I put her old box in the pen. But funny thing is that she started using Ruffles’ box now. I think it has to do with the litter. Her box has pine pellets and I just opened a new bag of YN. I think her pee problem was that she didn’t like the litter. What a fussy bun!
