So I’ve been researching rabbit care a ton (plus recalling all the information I researched two years ago), but the internet is full of so much information, a good amount of it contradictory, that it gets a little overwhelming. X__X So I wanted to ask you guys! What are the things you do for your rabbit every day, once a week, and once a month? I have a very good idea of it by now, but as I said, I’m sorting a ton of information in my brain right now, so I thought asking you guys about your care schedules would help. Thanks!

First you’ll need to determine if your rabbit is high or low maintenance, in terms of susceptibility to illness and stressors.

Wick is high maintenance. Below is his schedule:

          Daily:
          1) Butt check. I pick him up and curl his butt up so I can check for weird poop smears or stuck on poops. This also gives me a view of his hocks.
          2) Teeth check. I look at his incisors for how straight or crooked they are.
          3) Face check. I part and look at his fur and skin, primarily on his face, to look for signs of fungal infection or drool.
          4) Eye check. I take a look at his eyes, mainly his left, for damage, since he has a white speck from early childhood there already. Also for excessive eye gunk.

          Weekly:
          1) Nail check. I take a look at his nail length. I trim his nails often, rather than waiting for them to be long and cutting off a larger piece.
          2) Ear check. I peer into his ears for any issues. He hasn’t had any as of now.

          Monthly:
          1) Molar grinding. Wick needs monthly molar grindings.
          2) Vet visit. While doing a grinding, we just do a general check up at the vet.

I don’t regimen into vet checks… Wick just always needs them. He averages at least 2 per month with his health, haha. He’s technically healthy, but he picks up minor illnesses one after another. URI went into a tooth infection which went into fungal infections.. haha.

My bunny seems to be the opposite of Wick! He’s a very low maintenance bunny health-wise.

            Daily:

            1. Feed him veggies and pellets
            2. Refresh his hay
            3. Spot clean his litter boxes
            4. Vacuum around his litter boxes
            5. Brush him (He’s a lionhead)

            Weekly:

            1. Vacuum his whole pen
            2. Completely empty and wash his litter boxes with vinegar solution

            Monthly

            1. Attempt to clip his nails
            2. Check his eyes/ears

That’s mostly it! I also spend a lot of time on the internet buying him new toys that he doesn’t need. He’s a very spoiled bun

Interesting about all the checkups you do for Wick! I have pet mice, and I do weekly checkups for them (check their eyes, ears, and bums, and then I do a lump check), so probably when I’m doing the girls, I’ll do my bunny as well.

The vacuuming is a good tip as well. I’ve been wondering what the best way to do a cleanup for the whole pen would be, and I already love vacuuming! Litter box is easy, I can clean it out at the same time that my mom cleans out her cat’s boxes. So it looks like for rabbits, it’s mainly the daily care that’s the real kicker! I’m beyond relieved I don’t have a normal cage, they’re such pains to clean.

My routine is similar to caillou’s – Thor is pretty low maintenance but a few things are different because she is a lop and free roam.

                Daily:
                – Feed pellets (morning) and greens (evening)
                – Spot clean litter box
                – Dump and refill water bowl
                – Top up hay 2-3 times
                – minor grooming/brushing
                – ear check (I like to check her ears every day because she is a lop)

                Weekly:
                – Vacuum whole apartment (hay gets everywhere) and thoroughly clean Thor’s area, dust.
                – Major brushing session (more often if she is molting)

                Monthly:
                – Nail check
                – Butt check

Mostly though, I just snuggle the crap out of her until she is tired of me
