I have 4 bunnies 2 being young less than 4 months. we have started to introduce the little ones to the outdoors. we have a LOT of daffodils in our garden that come up around now. I have seen the little ones eat the petals and the stems of the daffodils quite a bit but never the bulbs. our 2 big bunnies have also been seen eating the stem and petals. I have heard overall petals, stem and especially the bulb are toxic to bunnies. I found this out today and am now VERY worried. They haven’t shown any signs of behavioral difference or eating or pooping difference. But I am still worried. PLEASE REPLY ASAP as I don’t know what to do.

        Thanks in advance.

Provide lots of water, veggies and hay and for the little buns, give limited pellets for a little while because they need hay and water to flush out their system
If they didn’t eat the bulbs, they should be okay, they have eaten these before with no side effects?
          Please give updates!

Lots of water and hay is good advice, buns can’t vomit so what they’ve ingested must come through. According to Frances Harcourt-Brown, author of the first edition of the Texbook of Rabbit Medicine says plant-poisoning is uncommon in buns. Here’s a rather long but very interesting article by her on that subject:

Besides being careful with any plants that may be bad for rabbits to ingest, you need to be very careful in general if a rabbit is outside. There are a lot of dangers out there. Predators can come out of nowhere, jumping over fences, swooping down from the sky, etc., and rabbits can suddenly take off if something frightens them or if they just feel like running. They can squeeze through small openings or tunnel under fences. There are also external and internal parasites that can be picked up outdoors.

Thank you for your reply. The good thing is that we have very high walls that go deep into the ground ( found out with our big bunnies digging a lot. But speaking of which they seem to attack the little ones. That’s probably because it’s spring but that’s for another forum.

We always watch the little one carefully except one continuously goes for daffodils, but we’ve tried to deter them.

Thanks for your reply. Thank you, this is very helpful and calming knowing that plant poisoning is uncommon with buns. We will continue to discourage them from going to eat the daffodils but it is nice to know it’s not too bad. We have and will continue to feed them with hay and water and reduce the pellets temporarily.

Thank you very much for your reply. Thank you for your advice I will be sure to follow it!

They only seemed to have eaten the petals and the stems but they’ve shown no signs, to my knowledge, that they have plant poisoning.  I’m sorry I’m no expert so I can’t really tell any major differences. They’re acting the same and it appears they are pooping/drinking regularly.

Once again thanks, this has helped!
