Hi there! I’m pretty new here, but I wanted to come on and ask if you guys knew how to deodorize a Bunny room?

I have three bunnies. Mimi and Fig, who are two spayed females, and Olive, who’s an unaltered male. He has an appointment to be neutered in May.

Mimi and Fig were my first two, and now they’re all best friends, but the smell in their bedroom is just otherworldly. I clean the litter boxes frequently and leave a small fan going in the room, but it doesn’t seem to help. What Can I do to help with these smells?!

Do you know what’s the cause of the smell? If it’s the pee, wood pellets as litter work pretty well to minimise the smell.

            What lovely names!

I fear that it’s because you have an unneutered male around two females, and they’re not bonded. They may well all be marking the territory – bunny marking poops have this terrible sort of onion odour that is far more overpowering than normal bunny poo and pee smells.

Do you plan on bonding them all? Unbonded bunnies are likely to always mark territory with poop if not.

Perhaps you could try a strong smelling, bunny safe plant like rosemary or lavender?

But really, I think the territorial marking is likely to continue until Olive is neutered, and until they’re all bonded. If you don’t plan on bonding the three, then you might want to move Olive to a separate room as the marking will most likely continue.

A splash of apple cider vinegar with the mother in their water will mitigate urine smell.
