What is the difference between a Flordia white rabbit and a New Zealand white rabbit?

Size? Shape? Anyone know? Are they just 2 names of the same breed?

        Thank you!

oh this isn’t pretty. I looked up florida white rabbits and they were bred to be easy to care for and smaller for lab experiments and meat rabbits for small single families. they have good mellow personalities and are easy to show.    They weight 4-6 lbs and have short flyback coats. They are a very compact rabbit.

New Zealand whites. These rabbits weight in at 8-10 lbs are good meat rabbits and were created in America not new zealand. They are well rounded and muscular. These buns also make great pets and have good mellow personalities.

Seems like the difference is weight and size

Sorry for the sad stuff up there but this is what I found by looking them up online. I feel so sad when buns are used for those purposes and not as family members, companions and pets.

That is really sad. But I do appriciate you looking it up for me. I thought maybe some one would know off hand so that I wouldn’t have to search, lazy me!

Well I was curious becuase the next rabbit I want to get (as long as Smoochies likes it too) is a white rabbit, because they are not chosen from the shelters and rescues often. I think white rabbits are really beautiful! Smoochies is mostly white but she has a gray speck on her nose and a new on her ears.

            Thanks again

                Bunnytowne is correct.

I’m so happy you are considering a red-eyed white rabbit as your next rabbit – they are always overlooked at shelters and rescues.

Right now I have a 13 pound NZ white named Maxine – I’ve also had a few Florida Whites and love them as well.

Also consider a Californian if you come across one – they are red eyed and large rabbits – they are white with dark points like a Siamese cat and they have wonderful dispositions as well.

I can’t understand the aversion to white rabbits. I’m glad you’re interested in one. I had a red-eyed guinea pig as a teenager, and a white cat with one blue eye and one green eye many years ago. I always head right for the white animals – I think they’re beautiful!

In my experience at the rescue, white with red eyes and all black are the slowest to get adopted.  This is a shame, becasue the big white rabbits are often the easiest to care for and the best with kids and other animals.  People see the pink eyes and think of lab animals I think.

I love the all white BIG bunnes! They really have fantastic personalities, I think you will be very happy with either New Zealands, or the Californians as Sarita mentioned. They are wonderful bunnies. I fostered a Californian, and if I hadn’t already had a full house I would have kept her in a second!!

I think Layla is a New Zealand white… I’ve done alot of research and they look just like her.

I must be weird cause it’s the pink eyes that MADE me want her… they made her more interesting to me and I have always been a fan of things that are just a little bit different. And she’s different and also adorable! and gonna be….BIG. Ha.

I’ll have to agree, I was just at VRRA this weekend, and my friend came with me, and she was very put off by a californian rabbit (gorgeous) as he had beautiful pink/red eyes… Sad
