i have post traumatic stress disorder and i had a mental breakdown, it really scared my bunny he’s hiding in the tunnel now. I feel horrible, I couldn’t control myself and was very loudly crying.  now I am more sad bc my bunny doesn’t wanna come out of his tunnel. I tried giving him some pellets from my hand and he took them, but went back into his tunnel. will he get over this?

He will in all likelyood get over this, but maybe not until several hours have passed, or until tomorrow. A really terrified rabbit will not be interested in pellets or treats. So its great that he took pellets from your hand!

Just let him come to you when he wants to. Serve him his dinner like normal, but dont fuss over him too much.

I hope you’re doing better, you can message me if you need someone to talk to. I would also give him some time to settle down, he should be okay once everything is calm again for a while. How are you both doing today?

I’m sorry that happened! I find that bunnies can be very calming influences and maybe in time he’ll actually help you have fewer and less intense reactions. In the meantime, I’m sure he doesn’t hate you but you scared him and as prey animals bunnies can be very sensitive to scary noises. If you feel like you’re going to get upset and be loud again, try to go in a room he isn’t in if that’s possible. Give him time to calm down and feel safe again. If you’re calm, you sit on the floor and ignore him so he sees that you’re safe and calm and that will probably help him want to come out and do his normal things.

So sorry you were not feeling well. I hope you are better now. I agree with the others, I’m sure he doesn’t hate you and I would definitely do what pinkiemarie said if you can.

This is what it has worked for me:
My rabbit gets very scared with loud noises. If he is very terrified and needs hiding, I leave some herbs/treats next to him and try to be quite for few hours. Then I put some classical music (low volume), and after few more hours he is back to his normal self. When I first got him he got petrified once. I groomed him covering his eyes, talked to him very quietly, and put herbs or smelly treats very close to him so he would come back from the shock. After that, I put some classic music and checked on him often. He has never gotten that scared again. When rabbits get super scared it can take them few days to fully recover, specially if your rabbit is not very confident. If he runs away from you when you enter the room, get him some treats/herbs to reinforce positive feelings, and don’t force interactions; let him come to you.

                I hope it helps.

@pinkiemarie @Saurad @bam @moonlightbunny66 thank you everyone for your replies I really appreciate and them along with the support 🙂 My bunny is doing a lot better he seems pretty much back to normal. I found that as soon as I settled down and stopped freaking out he did too. So maybe he was picking up on my vibes. I am also doing a lot better thankfully since that happened. <3 thanks again everyone
