About how often do you guys need to mix up the critical care and syringe feed you bunnies?

I know the answer is: when they don’t eat – but how often does it happen in your house holds?

Is it closer to twice a year or once every few months?

        What is everyone’s experience?

3 of my 4 bunnies have never needed it. Lancelot needs it regularly. probably 5 or 6 times a year for 2-3 weeks each time. He really needs supplemental feeding ALL the time, but as he starts to feel better, it gets dificult to feed him, so I make critical care hay cookies, which he love.s So he actually gets critical care year-round. Lancelot’s reason for not eating include things like gas, ear infection, EC, arthritis pain. But even when he’s eating, he needs to be eating a lot more to maintain his weight.

Licorice has never needed it in four years. Only illness he got was fur mites, but that was Revolution on his fur.
Winter also has never gotten stasis but she might be going through it now. So we’ll see what she does with the syringe.

            So…. for me once in 2 – 3 years. Guess I’m lucky.

Critical care is for buns who are hiding and are not eating. It’s meant as a emergency supplement to aid and keep them healthy and is extremely fortified in nutrients and good calories to keep them alive.

… in essence, a healthy rabbit shouldn’t need critical care, unless it’s following an operation or something similar.

I’ve only ever had to syringe feed one of my buns on one occasion (which was last week!) My other bun has never needed it. They’re both 9 months old.

My Bindi eats Critical Care several times a day. 1 TBSP 2-3x per day. This is as per my vet’s instructions to help him keep weight on as he’s a senior, special needs bunny. Thankfully, he loves it and I just put it on a plate and he gobbles it up.

We had to 5 or 6 times over a 10 month period.

Every time we entered the slightest molt Georgie would have audible gas and refuse to eat. Since then we’ve found that she had underlying issues which were likely the cause.

As our first bunny we didn’t and still don’t really know how often the average bunny needs to be “encouraged” to nom.

Anyone else chime in on how often they’ve had to or how long and never had to syringe feed their little ones?
