Dutch just exhibited some odd behavior. I was closing the window/curtains for the night and when I closed the curtain I think it startled him because he ran out of his cage. After that, he started running around and thumping, which I know is normal for a startled bun. He kept this up for a good 5 minutes running under and out from from bed. Thumping occasionally. Then he got his jingly, rope ball and started carrying that around while he was running.

After about 5 minutes of that he finally slowed down enough for me to pet him. Then he went and laid down in his cage with his back legs sprawled out (sign of relaxed bunny?) He was still wide eyed and breathing fast but I figure that’s from all the running. It wasn’t normal play because he was thumping and he wasn’t binkying or anything. He stopped for a few minutes and layed down. Then he started up again with the frantic running and thumping.

Then he seemed normal again. He’s playing with his toys and I just saw a binky.

Was that just a normal startled bun reaction? Or was it just a bun being a crazy/unpredictable bun?

He’s still thumping…about thirty minutes later. Don’t know what his problem is. He seems fairly normal otherwise.

do you have train tracks within 3 miles? maybe an unauthorized critter or buggy in your house that you havent seen but the buns have?

the scariest bunny freakout we ever saw was when we had a big helium-filled mylar balloon in the living room.
when the AC went on, the circulation from the intake vent sucked it slowly across the ceiling right above their cages with a scraping noise the whole way.
they though it was an alien invasion

Rabbits can hear things that we humans can’t hear. My bunny has done that on 2-3 occasions at the old house. It gave me quite a fright.
