  Hi everyone! I’m the new mom to a bunny who is now the apple of my eye. I rescued him from a pet store (I know adopting is always the best option, I went into a pet store so my friend could look at the fish. I saw this bunny and held him, he clung to me and I couldn’t leave without him) thus began my spontaneous journey to bunny mom life. Unfortunately, the pet store worker was clueless…
  
  He’s been in his new home for about two or three weeks now…. lately I’ve noticed him running around like CRAZY in his cage, usually in the middle of the night around 5/6AM. He’ll jump from the bottom of the cage onto his little hut I bought for him. He runs around and jumps very quickly. I’m not sure if this is normal or is he’s scared/unhappy/skiddish. He is too young to be having hormone stuff as far as I am aware he is only about 7 weeks. He eats plenty of the pellets I give him and drinks lots of water. Sometimes when I come home from class (I’m a full time student) he’ll be sprawled out relaxing or napping. So is he doing okay? I’m just concerned and want to give him the best life I can!

  He wants to play! Does he have free roam or a big pen he can run around in during the day?
  
  You mentioned he eats plenty of pellets, how about hay?

  Most rabbits are most active in the evening and early mornings, and they rest more during the day. Your rabbits must be older than 7 weeks if you have had him for 2 or 3 weeks. Rabbits should stay with their mothers for 8 weeks, although some breeders separate them before that.
  
  It sounds like he is energetic and playful. When they run and jump up in the air, that is a binky.
  
  Is his cage large enough? I know that he is small now, but rabbits need adequately sized cages or pens and most if not all of the cages sold in pet stores are not big enough.
  
  He certainly needs to be eating hay. That is the main component of their diet. He can have alfalfa hay now, but you will need to transition him to a grass hay (timothy, orchard, etc.) when he is older. Have you checked out the BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page? It is very helpful and covers all the basics – feeding, housing, litter training, bunny proofing and more.
