Cover for expen

So, currently bonding our new Bunny Warhol and are in habitat switching phase. Main one is 3 story condo with 3×7 expen attached. My son was coming through at midnight the other night and found Warhol out. Put him back, he jumped right over the 36 inch pen! Now he’s relagated to extra large dog crate until we get this sorted out.

It’s a custom size we made by overlapping panels after breaking them apart, so no premise covers. On one side is a wall, one a tall condo, two “open” for jumping, short side us the area we open up. I’m try to figure out if I would be better off putting heavy fabric clipped on or so e kind of perpendicular baffle on like NIC grids to prevent the escapes. We need to get acces to space for feeding at pats. Opening it up all the time invites escapes with Basset Hound hanging around. The layout of the room makes it impractical to easily keep dogs out fir short restocking periods. Bedsides, I think the benefit from drive by human interaction which they get now outside of their free time.

Been there done that ideas?

You can buy 5 foot tall pens online for dogs instead of trying to rig yourself a top. This will also help keep the dogs from jumping in the pen.

Fabric on top clipped has worked well for a lot of people, because most rabbits just need the visual confirmation that they cannot jump through something. Even if the fabric is something they could hypothetically push through, most rabbits won’t try it because it looks solid. I think it’d be easy to pell back a portion for feeding and human interaction as well, rather than a heavy cover.

I tried fabric on top but then when my bun was free ranging she just jumped on top of it and it wasn’t super sturdy fabric so that was not ideal. I ended up using NIC grids to just make the pens a foot taller and that has worked really well.

We use ex pens. We’ve always just simply used binder clips to attach a white bed sheet to cover the tops. They’ve never tried to jump out since we’ve done this. It’s also super easy to take off and on because the material is very lightweight. Also – white or a cream color is good because it still lets natural sunlight through, it doesn’t make the pens darker at all. If you don’t have any old bed sheets that you’re not using, I recommend just going to a local thrift store, as you’re most likely going to have to cut it down so its not too large and over sized. In my opinion it’s kind of a waste to buy by a big new set of sheets, but it all depends on where you are and what’s available. If you have any questions about my set up feel free to ask!! OK, so we tried the bed sheet, but there is an open area in the 2nd of 3 story condo and Warhol was nudging up over that end of the sheet. Hard to explain my layout, but I wound up building a short “roof” over the side with the bunny condo, and putting a sheet over the rest. We still have easy access to the pen area then for cleaning, etc. (it’s 3×7 ft and the condo is at one end 3×3). I couldn’t really make it taller due to it’s placement in the room and what it would block. This seems to be fine. He seems more interested in exploring than escaping, so just blocking it some works.
