I had to give Pip what had to be the nastiest butt bath ever today. She’d had a bad reaction to some canned pumpkin I’d given her the night before that caused a ton of cecals to get stuck to her bum/feet/belly fur. Mostly cut away what I couldn’t clean (a real close shave by her vent, I was lucky I didn’t snip something vital) and just warm water soaking doesn’t cut it…no pun intended. She was a real champ btw…put up with a lot from both me and my daughter. She gets an “A” for effort.

I saw a post previously that said cornstarch baby powder is now OUT for cleaning bunny butts. Can regualr cornstarch be used? I need a better solution to this problem.

        Many thankies in advance!

As far as I know it can. And baby cornstarch powder too provided it does have other stuff added to it. I noticed here though, that cornstarch is sometimes wheaten even though it’s still called cornflour.

Absolutely regular corn starch can be used. The only concern about baby powder is what may be added to it, like fragrance etc. that could possibly be harmful to ingest. Good old grocery store corn starch is a staple in my cupboard for my bunny. And due to my fragrance sensitivity, I filled a powder puff jar in my bathroom with the plain cornstarch for my own powder. It’s nice!

Sorry she’s having pumpkin trouble. I also advocate a half bath in the sink with warm water and mild soap or shampoo, or nothing but a washcloth, to get it all good and clean. You’re experienced enough to know how to hold her so she isn’t submerged and doesn’t get her head and ears wet. Towel dry and back into a clean cage, maybe with a very low, cool hairdryer first, and she’ll finish the job. The corn starch will also help dry her. They are miserable from the yuck, and sometimes struggle with the bath, but obviously happy with the results. Bunnies want to be clean.

              Hey !
So im going to wash my bunnys bottom tonight. Hes white and has alot of fur(lionhead).
Heres what i was planning on doing:
First comb and cut the butt hair
But then should i wet with a damp cloth before or after combing with cornstarch ?
Keep in mind i do not own a hair dryer so i take alot of time towel drying.
I just wanted to make sure i do this in the right order and you seem to know what youd talking about :p
              Thanks in advance !
