Hi everyone … to my surprise this afternoon, I found a lonely corn stalk growing in my front planting bed.  It must have been seeded by a squirrel or something.  It produced a tiny ear of corn (so cute!).   It’s too small to for one of us to eat so I thought instead of wasting it, I would give it to Spencer.  Is corn okay for rabbits?

No, unfortunately corn is bad for bunnies – they cannot digest it. I bet it is cute though :~)

Thanks. I’m glad I asked before giving it to him. The little corn cob is very cute. Maybe I’ll put it outside for a squirrel or bird to take instead.

that sounds cute.  You know baby corn is edible for people.  They sell it in cans so I would eat it.

I didn’t know that corn was bad for rabbits! I’ve been using clumpable, as well as flushable litter made of ground corn for the past 3 years with Chilly. World’s best cat litter sales rep said that it was safe for my cat and rabbit. So recently I adopted Dusty. She loves to snack on the litter. I learned from BinkyBunny that clumping litter is a bad thing for buns, so I’ve had to devise a litter box that would be appealing to the rabbits but function easily for me to clean up. I’m still working on it.

I would switch it. People selling the product will tell you it’s great for them, of course-to sell it. Many unsafe litters even have pictures of rabbits on them-and many unsafe treats are marketed to bunny owners.

Corn is undigestable and can cause blockages. I HAVE seen people give their rabbits corn-but it’s not good, and it can cause probs.

Try switching to yesterday’s news, or wood stove pellets. They are cheap AND safe Yesterdays news is fine for cats too so you could still use one type of litter
