Cord repair!

Not sure what you guys do about this, but when my rabbits chew through a cord of some sort (they always find a way even after bunny-proofing or watching closely) I have had good results in repairing the cords…Just strip the wires, twist the corresponding copper wires together to reconnect the proper wires (splice), and then put tape over the seperate connection (take care not to let any part of one wire touch another if they weren’t originally touching). Then tape the whole thing over to secure the connection! This works on all kinds of wires or cords.

Yep – for things like lamps you can easily get replacement cords at the hardware store too – in case you don’t want lumpy taped cords.

My bf’s an electrician so he fixes the cords on the spot pretty much…He still gets right grumpy about chewed cords though :p

Mostly every cord in my bedroom has been chewed at least once. My former bun LOVED cords and would always manage to sneak a chew. Luckily she never chewed through the actual cord, just gnawed the rubber coating off and we taped it up. Stormy ruined a brand new phone by chewing the cord (my bf was a wee bit mad). Let’s not forget though, how dangerous cords can be!!! We don’t want any injured buns!

What about remote control buttons? Do your rabbits find them to be quite a delicacy as well? I have several remotes with only 1 or 2 buttons.

Ah, my girlfriends bunny LOVES remote control buttons. And as she has a lot of electronics, she has those $100+ programmable remotes. She’s now on her third    OH, and the power button is always the first to go for some reason.

My rabbit will go to any lengths to get at my computer cords, including forcing the fence I have around my computer back as far as she can go to get at them through it. I had to finally put boxes in strategic areas so it is physically impossible for her to move the fence close enough to get at them.

And there is no easy way to resplice a Palm Pilot cradle cord. The ONLY cords she hasn’t gone through on my computer are the power and video cord.

My main victory though has been my computer’s cable connection. Due to my setup, the cable runs halfway around the floor of the room. But as it is white, as are my walls, as long as it is snug against it, she seems to have not noticed it. There are a couple of very small ‘tastes’ but so far I haven’t lost internet connetion.
