Hi i had bonnie spayed and clide neauterd on wednesday, clide was fine after surgery eating/drinking his normal self! Bonnie on the other hand took it really bad bless her we had her at the vets they day after as she wouldnt eat drink or poo, she started nibbling on things yesterday and thank god today shes eating and pooping like normal! I was just wondering when i could let them out for exercise? They are in there cages they are not small but not big either! I feel so bad on them trapped in there! Their in the living room so constantly with someone but i just feel awful! Would i be able to let them have a litter run round in kitchen if i take things out that they cant jump on?

Clide can have exercise pretty much the day after his surgery if he’s up to it. It’s wise to try and prevent excessive jumping and climbing for a week or so, but generally speaking, a young male is as good as new very soon after a neuter. Check his surgery site daily, there will be some swelling of the testicular sacks post neuter, but that is normal unless it gets very big. Sometimes a blood vessel leaks into the empty sack and you can get a very big swelling, like a ping-pong ball. If that happens, obviously contact the vet.

Bonnie is another matter. It takes 2 weeks for the internal surgery wound to heal. Until then, she should not run around. She can of course be allowed to do some exploring in a restricted area while you monitor her, but no jumping or binkying etc.

If you can get twigs, dried or fresh, from bunny safe trees (willow, apple, hazel etc), or if she likes chew toys, that may help with the boredom she is bound to experience when she feels well but there’s still more healing to do before she can be given more freedom.
