        Hi everyone,

I accidentally cut my rabbit’s quick. Lately, he’s been digging a little more than usual. While I know rabbits instinctively dig, I figured I would go ahead and check he wasn’t attempting at ‘filing’ his nails, although I trimmed them not too long ago. His nails looked pretty good in terms of length, but I figured I would give them a quick trim. (Bad idea on my part). Unexpectedly, he wiggled from my arms in the middle of me cutting, and I can only guess I accidentally cut his quick, considering it began bleeding. (I used a q-tip to dab flour on the nail, and fortunately, it’s no longer bleeding). I just cannot help but feel really terrible, in spite of my rabbit behaving normally, (other than him grooming the injured nail). Am I overreacting by being paranoid when he appears to be okay? About how long will it take the nail to heal? Should I restrict his living space temporarily to avoid any potential pressure on the nail? Thank you guys!

I know it looks like a lot of blood and we are left feeling badly, but he will be okay! Ive had something similar happen where my rabbit pulled away last minute just as I pressed the clipper down and the whole nail came off! He was just left with the nub of his dewclaw.

Your buns nail might be a little sensitve at first but it’s only temporary. Just keep an eye on it. If he has a tendency of hanging out in his ltter box (like many do) then I’d probably refresh it more frequently for a few days just as a precaution.

Oh my goodness, the idea of any nail in itself coming completing off, is even more so terrifying. I’m glad all is well now. I’ll definitely go ahead and clean his litter box more frequently. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again!
