So I have been wanting a second rabbit for a little while now and I have the money for it and everything. I have done tons of research and I know all about the bonding process and everything.

So I basically have convinced my mom but the real problem is my dad. I have 3 hermit crabs, a cat, a dog and a rabbit. My dad isn’t to fond of pets in the first place so he defiantly doesn’t think we need another pet. I try to convince him that it would benefit my current rabbit but he doesn’t really get it like me and my mom do. The problem isn’t that he thinks I am not responsible enough. In fact, my mom and dad always talk about how conscientious and responsible I am. My dad just isn’t to fond of new pets

I was wondering if any of you guys have ideas on how to convince him.

Having a second rabbit isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Rabbits like the companionship, but their humans can provide that to a certain degree as well. Keep in mind that if your bun is very social with you right now, that will likely change if they are bonded with a member of their own species. You might go the whole day without getting any attention from *either bunny*! So I would make sure that this is what you really want and you’re willing to sacrifice your own needs for that of the bunnies. There’s no requirement to get a second bunny.

If the reason I don’t get another rabbit is because he won’t give me as much affection, then I don’t really think that’s fair to my rabbit. I know rabbits dont need parters but in most cases it defiantly benefits them. I think it’s a little selfish of me to keep from getting another rabbit so my rabbit will give me more affection when he is lonly in the day when I’m at school
Thanks you for the input though

Honestly, I doubt he even notices anythign while you’re at school. Rabbits are more active in early mornigns and evenings, and typically sleep all day. So another bun would do the same thing.

Yes, at school isn’t an issue. My rabbits don’t come out of their sleeping area until about 5pm anyways. And beyond just losing affection there is the risk of – loss of litter habits (meaning extra smell, a ton more cleaning, possibly having to build an exercise area that won’t get stained by urine), potential for illnesses to become very pricey (that bacterial infection just became x2, twice the vet bills), potentially months of bonding (with two cages etc), the possibility of the bond breaking during their life together (meaning rebonding), potential of a serious injury from a fight (upwards of $700 to repair if it’s serious). Also, what are you doing with all these pets when you go to college (if you plan to go?). Most affordable college areas don’t allow pets.

Be aware of these risks and if you are willing (and able, a $1000 vet bill is hard to cover while still in school) to take on the responsibilities then write down a plan and take it to him. If you come at it business like with a plan in hand, he’s probably going to be more willing to accept that you know what you’re getting into.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Like I said before I know rabbits don’t NEED friends but I still believe it would benefit him a lot. I am not there all the time even when he is active and I do believe he does get lonely when I am gone.
                  Thanks for all your input
