        Hey guys,
So I’ve had my gorgeous continental giant bunny Bella for 2 years and I’ve always known she needs a friend. In the last couple of days I had to take in a rabbit from a family who no longer wanted theirs and was willing to just leave it in a park so I stepped in and now I have a gorgeous tiny lop now named aroura. Both my rabbits are 2 years old but the size difference is crazy. Bella and aroura have met through gates and barriers but I haven’t properly introduced them because I’m worried that Bella will really hurt aroura If they get in a nasty fight. However I have started getting them used to each other’s scents but I’m really worried about starting their bonding process. Especially because Bella has been with me for 2 years so she has got Territorial issues. Is there anything advice or tips on bonding a big rabbit with a tiny one?
        Many thanks
        Halima

Can you put the new bun in a separate room? It’s important for him to become familiar with his new surroundings before potentially stressing him out with the smell and sight of a new bun. I know it sounds silly, but it can stress them out. It’s good you haven’t introduced them yet. Are they both spayed/neutered? Bunnies can’t properly bond without being fixed. After he has settled in for at least a month, then you can start swapping scents and prebonding, as well as have him in the same room. This will really help to make sure he has become comfortable. After you’ve prebonded for another month, then you can start sessions on neutral territory. If no where is neutral in your house, clean a specific area with vinegar to remove the smell of either bunny, and keep it bunny free until you start sessions. Start sessions slowly with 10 minutes.

The size difference doesn’t matter. It all comes down to their personalities and how vigilant you can be during sessions to prevent any scuffles. hope this helped

Hi Bella, we would love to follow this bonding process. Although nipping will occur, i wonder if it would be like dogs and the big one would presume dominance even though the little one thinks he has it?!!! LOL.
Maybe due to the enormous size gap they wouldn’t fight…? Im sorry i don’t know, but id love to find out.
            Please keep in touch
