        Hello there everyone 🙂
Sooo I’ve been here before but just considering it again. Ok so I have a velveteen that is around 2 years. She’s great. I give her about average about of time- not ALL my day but a good chunk. She is just free roaming around my room and she’s litter trained and spayed. Now- I would like to know if I should get a second. I am at work for about 6 hours a day and she’s alone. She is ok around my dog but I don’t leave them alone together. SO- is she too old to accept another older bunny? Would a baby be better? Or would she like to be alone without a friend? I am going to college again in August and I’ll be gone longer- however I’ll still give her the same amount of my time only it’ll be all later in the evening vs an hour here and there. Yyyyaaa know? So I’ll still be with her but she’ll be alone longer. Again she’s free roaming so it’s not like it’s a hard life lol and she’s gotta radio and plenty of toys.
But my question is- friend or no? And if so would I need a second litter box? Will the second one learn from my one now? How should I introduce them? What age should I get? Is there a place where I could get the spay done for free like people do for cats and dogs? (Any questions that I could get would be great…doesn’t have to be from the same person but I do need them answered)
        THANKS GUYS!
It’s so great having someone to go to for these things 🙂

It is totally up to you – my rabbit is normally alone all day long and he’s just fine. I’m gone for about 10 hours a day for work. He usually just sleeps all day long.

Like Sarita said that’s up to you and how you think your bunny is doing. When I just had one bunny he basically slept all day when I was gone. I think now that I have two, the also sleep all day, but I imagine they get up every once a while and doing some bunny communication or something and it’s probably not as lonely.

However, if you were going to get another bunny, because you’ll be going to college again soon and won’t have so much time to spend, I would recommend adopting an older, already altered bunny. Getting a younger bunny will mean waiting until they are already altered before you can begin the bonding process. If you can find a bunny shelter, they usually actually let you take your bunny in for bonding dates so you can find a bunny that your current bunny may have an easier time bonding with.

As for litter boxes, it depends on how much space you bunnies have. My 2 bunnies have 3 litter boxes but they’re pen is about 10×5′. Bonding can also be pretty time consuming so there is that to also think about. But if you do decide to get another bunny, I think they seem happier having each other now. They don’t require so much attention from me either, they entertain each other.

Well I just want to make her as happy as I can. I dono what she does when I’m gone haha. I guess if it wouldn’t really matter then I don’t know- I was just going to do it for her benefit….well I’m not going to deny that having another baby would be great 🙂 but $$

Slowebot just saw your post…that was weird. Oh COOL! I didn’t know that. Hhuummm wonder if there are any shelters like that in my area… yeah if I got a baby I’d have to get out soon so that I can get them together sooner and actually feel comfortable having them together while I’m away

Yeah, I would get an adult. We are in your shoes (1 year old adult, feel bad for him left alone a lot during the school year) and just got a second baby. I’m having serious second thoughts, mostly because I don’t think we researched enough first. It is extremely difficult to find a fixed adult rabbit around here (shelters don’t spay or neuter rabbits), so I thought a baby that I could get fixed early would be better. I think we can make it work, but I am concerned it could take longer than the summer.

WELL guys! I think you’d be happy to know- that I found a few shelters in the area that have foster homes for their bunnies and they are all spayed and neutered! 🙂 I was just looking into a few and one YES even said that they do have bonding sessions for you current bunny and possible friend. Oooh that takes care of my two concerns 🙂
Sooo I filled out an application and we’ll see what happens. SO my next question would be- what kind am I looking for? I would LOVE another rex. But the only one I saw was a male and I should probably get a female right?

Best thing to do is to let your rabbit pick who they like. Try to keep an open mind about all of the available rabbits.

How close are you to being done with college?

My first thought is to not rock the boat right now. College can be filled with uncertainty, changes in schedule, living situation, financial status, etc. It’s easier to navigate this with one bunny than two. Your bun is still young, so this is always something you could revisit after graduation and you are settled.
