        Hi everyone!

I’m a new member to these forums. Just signed up today!

I would really like some help with my question as I am very confused and have been doing a bit of research to try and answer my queries.

I have a 9 week old doe who is always very hungry all the time. With my first rabbit (Einstein) who is now 9 months old I fed him a handful of pellets everyday as a young kitten 0 – 3 months as this was recommended to me by the breeder. I recently read in a book that rabbits less than 7 months old should be supplied with an unlimited amount of pellets. Is this true?

Also, now that I am questioning this, I am also questioning how much pellets should I be feeding my 9 month old buck.

        Please help!

          Welcome

This site recommends a diet based on the House Rabbit Society guidelines. (see under BUNNY INFO)

So for young rabbits up to about 6-7 months you can give unlimited alfalfa based pellets. The protein at this age is important. The young ones eat alot an poop alot I hear.

For Einstein (cute name!) it’s good he’s on limited pellets now. HRS recommends adult have 1/4 to 1/2 cup grass based pellet per 6 lbs of body weight. http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html

Do you give both of them hay?

            Welcome!

And to elaborate on what Jersey said, for your older bunny, he needs to be on timothy pellets (that’s what she means by grass-based). So you would have the babies on a different pellet than your older rabbit.

Hay is necessary for all bunnies. Your older rabbit should already be on at least 2 cups of fresh veggies per day. You can start introducing veggies to the young bunnies now, try one new veggie at a time.

              Hi!

Thanks for the replies and your help. Glad its been made clearer to me now.

The type of food I have been feeding my bunnies can be found here: http://www.burgesspetcare.co.uk/products/rabbit.html

I have been feeding them the Burgess Excel Herbage Hay and for the adult rabbit the pellets for adults and for the 9 week old (Cleopatra), the pellets for junior rabbits.

The adult has also been getting fruit and vegetables every day.

Welcome!! We’re a very friendly forum group-so feel free to ask away we do require pictures of your bunnies in payment though lol

Unlimited pellets are totally fine at this age. And I ditto all the diet advice given -great stuff

And the food your feeding-looked at it just briefly but it looks totally fine Jers is from ‘down under’ as well so she likely knows the brand better-but I think it’s good
