Hi everyone! I had my 10 month old Bun neutered on Tuesday of last week (8 days ago). He came home and within a few hours had torn at his stitches. I took him back to the vet and the fixed him up and kept him overnight for observation. I was able to bring him home on Wednesday but he needed to wear an e-collar since he kept messing with the area. The vet recommended to keep the collar on for 7 days. He has done great with the collar and I take it off every now and then to give him a breather. While the collar is off I do notice that after eating and bathing, he will start going for the area. My only big complaint with the collar is that at night he makes a big mess and smears all his cecals on his cone and all over the floor trying to get to them.

My question is… is 7 days long enough for his area to heal? I still see all the stitches in his scrotum (they are dissolvable) and I would assume that when the cone comes off tomorrow morning, there is a possibility of him messing with those stitches. I just want to make sure it’s enough time for the skin to completely heal so we don’t go through another nightmare and he needs stitches again!

        Thanks ?

I personally would keep the cone on for a full two weeks (I had to with one of my bunnies who kept messing with his wounds). I recommend you stop taking it off even for breathers, since he keeps going for his wounds. It wont be fun for either of you if he gets them infected from messing with them, or ends up pulling the stitches again.
