I’ve tried several different things but Bindi’s condo is making my bunny room a big mess. He has vinyl floor and I can’t keep the hay from coming out the sides of the condo. He seems to like pusing it out. I’ve tried buying a big sheet of plastic and cutting it to make sides that I attached to the squares on the sides but that didn’t work. The hay still goes under. Any ideas? I’d like to figure this out before I make one for Stormy.

The only thing I can suggest is putting some kind of wall on the inside of the condo, but it sounds like you might have tried that already? I think you can find urine guards online and they might have some that are at a right angle so they’ll fit down into the bottom edges and not let the hay escape.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Even with some barrier backing the NIC’s you’d still get some fines making their way through. How do you feel about using a hay trough? I have one in addition to my rack and it is the least messy meal they have. It would have to be small enough so he can’t jump in and make it into a litter box. I usually stick a rock on top of the hay in the trough so it stays down.

The flooring of my condo is coroplast and I actually folded up the coroplast around the edges so there is a wall to keep the hay in. The hay is then put in a rack above the litter box, so they hay has to go from the litter box to the cage to the outside. Some hay does escape, but most does not, I have found this is very effective.

Bindi has a bin that I put his hay in but he still makes a huge mess. He pulls all the hay he doesn’t want out and that’s what ends up on the floor. Also his cardboard shreds end up sliding through too.

Well, then that’s just a rabbit’s idea of interior design~

I wish I could tell you exactly what I use because it keeps everything in Nixie’s cage…I’ll try to find my camera charger and get a picture.

Question though about the coroplast — is it safe for rabbits that chew EVERYTHING?

no, if they chew it, you would preferrably use something other than plastic/coroplast. Can’t waiit for your pictures of your hay containment!

Here’s a pic of my hay containment. The first pic shows the rack with the water bottle. the grid swings up to add hay. the rack is the top part of an old super pet cage bent into a circle. The swing down grid is a nifty spot to put the water, and also keeps them from eating hay outside of the litter pan, thus minimizing out of pan poops/pees.

                          Hope this helps!
