So Bindi needs his teeth done. They haven’t been trimmed since April (I think) and he hasn’t really put on any weight since the E.C. episode. I find him too skinny. The last week, he’s had some little mushy poos stuck to his fur. These are both usually signs he needs them done. I called the vet and my vet is out sick until the 21st. She offered to put him in for the 21st but I really don’t want to do it so close to Christmas, since last time, we had to force feed him and give him meds for almost a week after his dental. I will if it seems more urgent but for right now he’s booked for Jan. 8. Do you think this is okay or should I have gone with the 21st? I just really dont’ want to deal with that stress at Christmas, especially since we will have a guest staying with us. Of course, his health comes before anything else.

Now my concerns about Olivia. The past few weeks, she seems inactive. Not as active as usual during out time. In the morning, she’s eager to come out but after supper she usually doesn’t want to come out. I always let her out and then Bindi but I’ve been letting Bindi out first since she’s unwilling. I have to sometimes bribe her with a treat to come out and she mostly lays around. It seems strange because she seems to be okay in the morning. I’m wondering if maybe she’s starting to have arthritis. I say that she’s 5 but that’s going on if the pet store was telling the truth that she was “around 1” when I got her. So who knows. Maybe the cold weather is making it act up. If she doesn’t perk up, I will take her to the vet after Christmas. Hopefully, this too can wait, since I’m up to my ears in vet bills right now. My horse cost me a good deal last week and I have to get her another $100 of meds today.

I know nothing about arthritis. Is it possible that, if she has it, it bothers her more at a certain time of day, like after supper?

If it were me for the teeth, I’d do it sooner rather than later – no matter what you are going to have to deal with the stress.

It is possible it’s arthritis – could be the fact too that their is less daylight and the shorter days are just making her less active. I don’t think as far as arthritis there is any tell tale sign unless it’s debilitating.

I want to do Bindi’s teeth soon too, I just get really stressed out at Christmas as it is. I will take to my husband tonight and see what he thinks. I really wish my vet was able to do it next week.

maybe you could temporarily go to a different vet if they have open appointments for next week?

              best of luck!

I think for Olivia – It might be weather. Or she’s just not feeling like coming out. I would say it depends on how long it’s going on and if any other behaviors have changed. Lolli has days were she doesn’t want to come out hardly at all. And if she does, she just flops somewhere. When we were at the apartment, it seemed like a couple times a year, both Eddie and Lolli would have times where they weren’t that active. If I remember correctly, it always seemed to happen in the winter so maybe bunnies have a natural tendency to slow down like all animals during winter.

I do not have any experience with teeth issues. Is he still eating? I mean, have you noticed any changes in that? It is concerning since his poop is changing and you know it’s a sign. When his poop changed before, how bad were his teeth? It is so hard deciding what to do. Especially when you are already strapped for cash due to other bills popping up. So I get that part of it. I think if you know he could wait until Jan 8th, then keep the appointment. Otherwise, I’d take him in earlier.

I would go with sooner rather than later for Bindi’s teeth, just to be safe. If you’re easily stressed out around the holidays, maybe it would make you feel better to know that that’s one more thing that you’ve taken care of.

I don’t know much about bunny arthritis, but there are certain kinds of people arthritis that cause more problems after long periods of inactivity (usually in the morning since we sleep all night). I’d say it just sounds like Olivia is feeling a little lazier recently. I’ve kind of noticed it with Peppy too recently…maybe it is a seasonal thing after all.

I am seeing all my buns starting to slow down. Even Fiver, who is usually a little zoom meister hardly does more than a few boings or spins when it’s exercise time. He can’t be more than five.
Olivia did have pasturella right? Could something related to that be flaring up? Either way a good check up will help sort it. I’ll concentrate some “all’s well” vibes in her direction.
With Bindi, I know how worried you are about how he’ll do after surgery. Mimzy is now six months past needing a dental but he is only now showing signs of maybe needing some help with his teeth. It all depends on how quickly it takes for Bindi’s teeth to get out of hand or cause a secondary infection/abscess.
Is he still eating hay? Will he eat oat? I found that’s the only way I can keep weight on Mimzy, but he’s getting thinner too in his old age. (I wish Pip and Fiver would slim down a bit, they seem to be getting fatter. )
I’m sorry so many things are coming at you at once. (((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))

Thanks for all the input guys. Bindi’s not the to the point of it affecting his eating. He’s also not drooling or anything. Your right, Peppy. I will probably worry and stress anyways, If I don’t have it done.

I’m going to discuss with Ricky this weekend. I’m sort of leaning towards the 21st. I just hate how close that is to Christmas. If he bounced back real quick, I wouldn’t hesitate but he’s usually pretty cranky and sore for a while afterwards. Like I mentioned, we are having a guest stay with us and that may stress him out if he’s unwell.

Mimz- No, Olivia tested negative for Pasteurella when I got her. She probably feels she hasn’t given her Mom a good worry in a while.

Well, if she knows Bindi’s starting to get more “sick” attention, she may decide to act up too. Lolli hardly wanted attention but as soon as I started getting worried and fussing over Eddie, she’d come out and find all kinds of ways to get in trouble. Eddie would fake being sick if I was fussing over Lolli. Sigh. Drama bunnies. lol
