I thought some of you might appreciate this list of popular companies that test products on animals. Rabbits (particularly New Zealands) and rats are made to suffer most often. You don’t have to be an animal rights activist to want to help alleviate the terrible sufferings imposed daily on lab animals. I boycott all companies who test on animals. There are always alternatives to suffering. I can’t imagine dying my hair with a product used to blind and poison countless helpless rabbits. It’s not only the testing that is cruel but the terrible conditions and fear in which these innocent creatures endure everyday.

Rabbits at Home

Rabbits in Labs
|
| Run, play, and explore | Are sometimes kept immobile in head and body restraints |
| Are fastidious groomers | Endure open, painful, and bloody wounds caused by caustic test chemicals |
| Enjoy being petted and cuddled | Are roughly handled and never experience a kind word or touch |
| Will run and hide at the first sign of danger | Are unable to escape even the most painful and frightening procedure |
What You Can Do
It’s simple: Buy products that aren’t cruelly tested on rabbits and other animals. There are hundreds to choose from, such as Estée Lauder, Avon, Method Products, and many others.
As Bunny lovers, it’s important we do what we can to help all rabbits, domestic pets and otherwise. Let’s make this a better place for our fluffy friends!![]()
Oh and add 3M to that list. They have crazy amounts of animal testing going on at their St. Paul facility…
I’m afraid you really have to be insanely observant to completly avoid all products made by companies that test on animals. Those companies take great risks in testing though because doing so opens them up to scrutiny by animal rights groups who can take pictures of the research being done. This in turn could cause their intelectual property to be leaked all over the interweb. Our lab should technically be under that scrutiny but no one cares if you kill 1,000 cockroaches, or just toss some live bed bugs into a freezer. I am trying to position myself within the division to never ever ever have to do any rodent work because I raise the pet mice/rats that we have in the lab. I love the little guys. (They are truly pets, never to be used for testing… we just use their droppings to compare with ‘unknown’ or ‘possible’ rodent droppings… their whole purpose is to be cute and poop) It may limit how far I climb in the division/company if I put up too much of a stink about doing those type of tests but I’m standing my ground. It’s enough for me to know how rodenticides work… let alone run that sort of test… sick!
I’m doing a lot of work with bed bugs recently and most of the older papers that I’ve been reading talk about how to properly prepare a rabbit/guinea pig to let the bugs feed. I’m so glad we figured out how to do that artificially! All I have to worry about now is mixing the blood after the red cross delivers it to us. (it’s outdated) I don’t want to be bitten by the little guys…why would I let them bite some little bun?! Although could you imagine the stinky eye that you would get after shaving the rabbit’s back! That would be the dangerous part.
Thank you
that is so sick. I read one of PETA’s books about animal testing sooo disgusting and unneccesary too. Ever hear of stem cells and growing artificial cells to test on? HOw could anyone even consider testing on animals. We dont’ need to do that anymore.
testing for cosmetic purposes is so archaic, thanks for the list. Im very shocked that Hills nutrition is on there. So much for number one food recommended by vets lol. Is it compulsory for companies to put wether or not they partake in animal testing on their packaging? I think it should be….
A bunch of Rose’s dying. How sad! Excuse me while i go clean out my cosmetic stuff and almost everything under the sink. Then go to the store for replacements.
Whats left?! Anyone know for sure what companies do not test on rabbits? I help out with my friends commercial cleaning business and i cant think of anything that we use thats not on that list lol
It should be mandatory for products to list that they test on animals or use animal ingredients but it’s not. As you can see, the company Proctor and Gamble is the worse offender. They own a lot of very popular products.
Go to the site, caringconsumer.com. They have a list of all the companies who are proven to do no animal testing. It is updated frequently. There are a lot of good makeup companies that don’t test on animals. With my experience, you sometimes have to shell out a bit more $ for makeup and cleaning products who don’t test but it’s worth it because I would feel terribly guilty using a product I know is tested on rabbits.
On that site, as well, they used to offer a free Caring Consumer Shopping Guide you could put in your wallet. It lists a lot of animal-friendly products. I ordered one about a year ago. I’m not sure if they still offer them but you can print out a list from the site as well.
