So as colder weather approaches here I want to add something to the buns cage In case theyou get chilly. Last winter we only had MrBun and he had a triangular cat cave thingy that he could curl up in. Well we had to take it out because daisy was tearing it up. So now they have their cardboard box and some blankets. We keep don’t keep the room cold usually around 70. And in the winter obviously we do turn the heat on but we usually don’t turn it up much as we like to just add blankets to the bed
I don’t think it would ever be below 65 in the room. We sleep with a fan pointed at us which is faced away from them.

But the other day it seemed like they were cuddling for warmth. Do you guys give your buns anything extra in the winter? I’ve never seen them curl up in their blanket. I just tried to make a sort of tent with another blanket but daisy kept catching her nails in it. She was able to just pull away but after the second time ito happened in 5 minutes I took it down. I don’t want to wake up to or come home to a bunny with a hurt paw from being stuck in it. So now I either need to find a different material to make the tent out of or get another idea. When the blankets are just laying on the floor they don’t mess with them. Would they know to get under the blankets if they were cold?

Fleece blankets are good because there’s no gaps in fibres, or just extra big piles of hay or bedding straw are great for snuggling up in. You could use a cardboard box with an opening and stuff lots of hay or straw inside it for them to burrow into if they were cold. Rabbits do tolerate cold better than heat though

If the room is at least 65 degrees, I don’t think that would feel at all cold to a rabbit.

Azerane- I thought the blankets they have now were fleece but apparently they’re just fake fleece. and I hesitate to give them a hay box in fear they would turn it into a litter box. they do have a cardboard box now that has 2 holes (they’re working on adding more) but its empty and they often lay in there.

Toby- You think so? I’ve seen on here that they do better in cooler temps rather than hot but didn’t know how cool was too cold.

they have both been used to this temp since they were little. I guess I just felt bad because they had 2 small dog beds and one cat hideaway but we had to take them out because daisy was tearing them both up. Poor MrBun had his since he was a baby and along comes Miss destructor bun and makes mom and dad take it away. But the floor of the condo are fabric, they have 2 blankets that aren’t secured so they can move them around, and they have their box. How would I know if they were cold? their ears are never cold, is that a good way to check?
