Tank is a caged bun by choice. He mostly lives in his cage (which is large enough, two by three feet, although he rarely leaves his favorite square foot at the end of the litterbox) and always sleeps there. During the day, his cage is opened up for four to six hours, and sometimes as long as eight if I don’t go anywhere.

He’ll run around my room for ten minutes to a half hour… then go back into his cage and sit there… xD now he’s on the older end of the spectrum, about six years -ish, but he still has, what, probably 4 left in him? He’s been this way since I got him and is normal in all other respects, so I don’t think it’s a medical issue. But I’d like to encourage him to be more playful if only I could figure out how. I think I’ve only ever seen him binky once (and it was a little pathetic, haha) I’ve never found a toy he was interested in, he doesn’t seek out affection.

I love him no matter what, but if anyone has any ideas as to how I could encourage him to be more active, I’d love to hear them… if nothing else, so he doesn’t get fat again.

Is there anything fun for him to do when he gets out of the cage? Toys to play with, carrots to nosh on, people to nuzzle?

Is this a change? Could be a medical problem if it’s a new behavior.

If you rule that out-make his habitat more interesting. Rearranging your furniture or his (tunnels, cardboard boxes, cat houses) makes them explore. As prey animals they must know quick escape routes and a rearrangement just compels them to explore and practice running through and over and in things.

Also he could be out when you don’t know about it-if he’s always free to leave? They are most active late at night and early am-so if you are out or in bed-you may not be seeing the action.

And-older bunnies really don’t binky and go crazy like babies or teenagers. They do slow down with age, but should still be doing something
