So a little background on my bunny, shes about 3 1/2 months old and i found out she had some dietary issues that made her poo get really black and mushy, but not runny. I guess she was sitting in her poo in her litter box at some point and there’s a clump that got knotted on her butt. I’ve posted something like this already and I tried following their advice but it didn’t help. The steps i’ve tried taking was giving her a little butt bath in warm water. I tried working out the poo but its really stuck in her fur and i didnt want to pull too hard and hurt her. Next i tranced her in my lap and took a wet towel to try to work out the poo, i was going to take some scissors and try to snip it out but it is so close to her skin I didn’t want to take the risk. If anyone can give me any advice on any natural remedies i could use to break up the poo that would be great.

My new rabbit is really young and got poopy butt for a while. I had found out the previous owner was using soft wood shavings as litter, and once I changed him to care fresh litter that I use for my two year old holland lop, the poopy butt went away. It is REALLY hard to get the poop out I know, I ended up being very very careful about snipping out the poops that were hopelessly crusted. You are lucky you can actually trance him, what I would do is directly cut on the poop instead of focusing on the fur. sort of like manually grinding it with your scissors, and then rub between your fingers with vinegar. If you are still very scared, go to a bunny savvy vet and tell them to do it for you, or go to a grooming salon. If they refuse they obviously do not care about your bunny now or in the future so at least you would know not to go there. Can I ask what litter you use? And is it really a dietary issue or just cecals that your bun bun doesn’t manage to eat? My bunny is still a baby and only eats some of his cecals and then gets distracted. The poop sounds like cecals since it isn’t runny. Bunny diarrhea is unmistakable. Who is “they” that you refer to? a vet?

That would be us BBers that gave her those other ideas that are astoundingly not working. Just can’t get over that not working, though the vet shaving it off should work, but sounds expensive for getting rid of poop. I did that one time for a rabbit, but I worked for the vet and didn’t have to pay, I have soaked then peeled it off another rabbit but it was quite sore underneath and idk if pulling it off did that or if it was already sore. Probably both.

Our lops both had coccidia when we got them so I feel your pain with poop stuck in fur. Our vet used a flea comb and just combed the poop out easily — that didn’t work at home at all (how do the vets make everything look so easy?)! We ended up using small scissors and veerrry carefully clipping our the poop that wouldn’t come off with unscented baby wipes. I was so nervous. It did take 3 of us to do it — my son holding the bunny, me clipping, and son’s (now ex) girlfriend (bunny whisperer!) for emotional support!

Bunny whisperer? Ha ha. Tell him to get her back! My sons (still) gf can’t stand me or my bunnies

How did you make out with your poor poopy bunny?

Just saw that MegaBunny — I’d like the bunny whisperer part of her back but not the part that broke his heart. Partly his fault, but she’s now seeing a friend of his. Grrrr! And now she’s afraid I don’t like her anymore. And to think I used my Sephora bonus points on her. The nerve!!

LOL JackRabbit. What a waste of good points!
