        Hey all,

Sorry I have been away for a while, it seems I only come on here when there is something wrong or I am worried. I promise, I do read alot, but my posting fingers are only used when I have a problem.

Jimmy May has been a doll for the last 10 months or so since my last post, binkying, flopping sprinting and generally getting into all the places that she shouldn’t be getting into. However, last night, after being out of her cage for an hour or so, she just went and lay in the corner and quitened down. We thought nothing of it until we went to take a closer look, and now she was just closing her right eye slowly, almost like she was winking at us…… Looked cute as hell for the first 2 minutes but now I am really concerned.

Getting up this morning to give her her food and water, the eye is still closed, it looks a little red around the edges and checking again, I saw a huge tear by the side of it (which I managed to clean off after a long tussle with her). She can still open it, and can see out of it (after a test involving a treat and a bit of subterfuge) but it is freaking me out! It is just the one eye, and apart from that she seems fine, polishing of her night time veggies in record time. We can’t get her into a vet until tomorrow, but for now I am going out of my mind.

Any advice or ideas what to do in the mean time???

        Cheers

        Matt, Marieke and Jimmy May

Keep an eye on it, make sure to gently clean any goopies off of it. M bun Monkey has had some eye issues, and the vet is good about taking care of her. I usually get eye drops to give her for 2 weeks.

I agree with Monkey, gently clean it if she’ll let you, and then get her in to the vet when you can.

Since you’ve already made the vet appt. I agree that keeping it clean and dry should help. Use something very soft, like a washcloth, nothing but water (no soaps or meds) and just dab it gently. You can dry the area with a soft tissue, too. If there is anything dusty near her try to clean that a bit. Like if there is hay dust coming out of your hay dispenser, just close it up for the night. Or pellet dust. Basically, keep it from getting irritated any further.

Spockie had clogged tear ducts which was very, very common. I was given goop that I put in the corner of his eyes, it melted with his warmth and medicated the duct. Initially took a week or more, but then when it came back periodically, it cleared up in a day or two. One cause, but others are possible. You’re catching it early.

I suspect your bunny could have bumped into something and scratched or irritated her eye.  Your vet will most likely add a special stain to the eye to see if there are any spots to retain the stain to determine if there is a scratch- and that will determine which medication to use on the eye.  (((((Healing Vibes)))))

                  Hey all,

Well after giving the eye a bloody good washing out last night after work and before bed, we woke up this morning to see…… pretty much a normal eye! We have flushed it out again today, and my girlfriend will stay at home to check on it all day. It looks like it was just a bit of hay or something that got in there.

We will check with the vet later on, but for now my worries have been relaxed. I was so worried it was crazy, but it looks for now that it is all ok!!!

Thank you all for your suggestions and vibes, it is great to know that this place exists for support and help, I wish to thank you all (and so does Jimmy May). If anyone can explain how to post some photos I would love to show you how she is getting on as she nears 2 years old 🙂

Thanks again, and I will keep you informed

Oooh! I will! I will! Since it means we’ll get to see pictures. :o)
Ok, there are two ways. Easiest is by attachment to your post. So go to “Add Reply” (Not the Quick Reply box). At the bottom after where you type your text there is two bars. 1) for attachments and 2) topic review. Cick on arrow to the right in attachment bar. Click on Browse and find the image file where you store them on your computer. Open the file then click “Upload” in the attachment bar. The info should then appear and there’s an icon you click on to insert the image into the body of the post.

Be sure the image file is under 300kb in size. You may need to resize it beforehand. Hope that has all made sense.

Option 2 to add photos is use a third party photo hosting site. You can then paste the direct link code in your post. OR you can save the html code and add that via the sun/moon icon in the post editor.

Good luck. Glad to hear Jimmy May is better and look forward to seeing her!

Edit: I forgot. You can add photos to Photo Albums in your profile now too. Just be sure to create and Album first, then add pics to that. You can choose whether you want other members to view them or not.

Well here she is the little madam, will add more pics when her eye is 100% (and these are the only ones saved on my work PC)

She loves that box for some reason, the scary thing is that it is a vlees box…. Which translated from Dutch means Meat box….. And I thought she was a veggie 🙂

                                Excellent!

I LOVE the pix – especially the disapproving mouth. It needs a caption.
