I have a 7 mo lionhead, whose previous owners didn’t seem to do much for bedding except shredded newspaper.  She didn’t have a potty, and sadly the newspaper just held urine.  So she’s a bit stained, from the ink and urine.  Also, her fur is very wooley, and right now I have her in Aspen bedding (I’ll be changing to something else this week), and it sticks to her fur like crazy!  Any suggestions on cleaning her feet and fur?

        Thanks!

you can brush her regularly, you should anyways since she’s a longer fur bunny. the urine stains wil eventually shed out, altho it might take a few months.

Can I clean her feet with a warm wet washcloth?

yes you can, if they’re dirty. but keep in mind that if the urine is stained in her fur, it will not come out for a few months.

have same problem the REW are hard to keep white. I use yesterdays news doesn’t stick as much as aspen but it does stick.

I have taken to trimming their underside around their tail end and some on the sides where the stuff sticks. I don’t trim extremely short but enuf to help with the sticking and urine stains. Good luck with that.

Yesterday’s news is a godsend with a lionhead!! It’s pretty much the only thing that they don’t track all over from the litter box!

Is the bedding all over the floor of her cage?  If it was just in a litter box I would suggest a layer of straw or hay over it.  That still may do the trick though.  As for the stains, they grow out and yes use a damp (not wet) washclosth to gently clean.

Here is some info on urine scald from Dana Krempels (Wow I’ve posted this 4 times today! )

Is the skin underneath affected at all?  If so, try some plain antibiotic oiuntment (not the one with pain killer) or aloe vera gel to soothe it.  If the wool is really thick and holding the wet urine close to the skin, try a dry bath with 100% pure corn starch (you can find it in the baking aisle at your grocery store).
