Cleaning Bunny Cage/Room

I was wondering when you clean your bunnies cage/room do you remove them from the area? Also I was curious if you move your bunnies cage around to change things up or is it better just to leave it alone and move around stuff outside the cage to keep them from getting bored? I love to hear everyone’s thoughts and ideas. Especially ones from long time bunny owners, it just seems you have most of the kinks worked out for keeping happy bunnies!

Sorry Luna,..not a long time bun owner, but, have been cleaning up after various critters,. oh,, at least 20, 25 yrs now 

My bun,.. lol,.. hes quite a bit different, then any other animal I have owned,.. I vacuum every other day, my house, and, that includes his x pen,..hes mostly free roam, other then night time, or, when I am away from home, so.. he has PLENTY of options, to remove himself, while I clean, but,.. he is so freaking nosey, he insists on supervising me, while I clean his area lol… the vacuum doesn’t bother him in the slightest either,.. cant even keep track of how may times I have suctioned his ears up, matter of fact  – he doesn’t flinch, a bit lol.

I used to try to give him a ” busy box cube” with treats inside, but, found out,.. he didn’t care… he wants to see what was happening to his house way more, so,.. ah well,..I just deal with him, underfoot, while I clean up his messes

I change where his bowls are, and his hidey hut, but, wen it comes to his litterbox, no, I NEVER change that location, for, what I assume, are obvious reasons

Hi Luna’s Mom! I don’t remove Wick from the area when I clean his pen/hutch. I’ll pet him, nudge him, or move him slightly to get him to ideal locations, depending on where I’m cleaning. He usually sits tight through the 10-minute cleaning if I place him up against me and pet him every minute or so, while feeding him a fluffy-top from a piece of hay occasionally.

For rearrangements, I keep his hutch (where he relaxes and sleeps at night when I sleep) the same, so he knows it’s extra “his” territory. I don’t reach in to get him there either. For his open pen in the living room, I do rearrange the paper tubes so he gets some jumps in, but I don’t move things too drastically. I never move any litterboxes.

Hi, Wick. I tried giving her a little nibble while I was vacuuming and she actually went and laid down under her ramp. I always feel bad because when I vacuum she usually goes under the bed until I shut it off then she runs out. She is in an xpen and I had took it all down and everything out of it because I wanted to attach it to a piece of plywood for flooring with some peel and stick tiles. Just to make it a little nicer. Right now she has those foam squares. I brought the board in and I cut the dang thing too small. The whole time she was actually pretty excited. I never move her litter box except when I got the xpen it wouldn’t fit on the end of the room where her stuff was in the beginning. She did really well adjusting to that, but she probably wouldn’t like it moved all the time. But anyway thank you, I don’t have to feel so bad about vacuuming her room now!! Wick is a little cutie pie

You’re being very considerate of Luna! I used to close the door when I vacuumed, but now Wick perks up suddenly, realizes it’s the vacuum, and resumes his usual activities. If it helps, I use to do this (stupid) thing where before I’d turn on the vacuum, I’d prep Wick by making a “wrrr”-ing noise verbally out loud to break the silence a little more gradually. If you’re willing to sound odd, this may be a beneficial route for a bit, haha.

Mine love to supervise when I’m cleaning the living room. I seldom make changes in their corner (where their pen goes at night and where their stuff is all day). I do rearrange toys, and enrichment activities in other parts of the room.

Since I share my garage with 5 other guys and my buns are confined to a 5ft by 4ft cage 24/7, I generally turn on my vacuum cleaner and vacuum away. Butter and Ohagi (yes they are named after food lol )will generally bolt into their respective card board box houses or poo pans with their hay (thinking they are hiding). When they are ridiculously shedding, sometimes it cant be helped that I vacuum them while using the brush attachment. Helpful for me but scares the living daylights out of them. They generally give me the “thump” and bunny butt afterward. Doesn’t bug me really.

Well I don’t have a cage for my bunnies so im not sure how helpful this will be – I find it’s actually so much easier in terms of keeping things clean now that they have no cage, I just sweep the living room daily, it gets pretty messy around their litter boxes as they jump in and out in quite dramatic fashion plus they pull the hay out lol. Their litter boxes get emptied and wiped down every morning with kitchen roll and every couple of weeks I wash them with soapy hot water. I must do that tomorrow! That’s pretty much it. I don’t hoover too often because it scares them but when I do, I just hoover and let them decide where they want to hide.

Also when we neaten up their main “home base area” they come to investigate and if we dare move things slightly, Peanut gets very suspicious lol.
