Oh dear … chocolate in any form should not be given to bunnies, even as a treat. It can cause all sorts of trouble with their digestive system and cause terrible ‘poop’ issues.

You would be better to give your bunny an alternative treat like only a few times a week, and very small amounts like apple, carrot or a sliver of banana.

Hope I have not frightened you, but best to cease the chocolate treats to your fur face.

            Dawn xx

Hi! Yes, I agree with the above posts – I think you’d be better off with teeny peices of banana or apple as a treat. The treats probably seem OK since they are at a pets store – but pet stores seem to sell quite a bit of stuff thats not OK for bunnies! I think you’d be better of with teeny peices of fruit (Juli likes grapes too) that way its safer for your bunny AND you can try all different kinds of fruits and find out what your bunny likes best! As I said, Juli’s favorite treat is grapes, Raymond prefers bananas, and Kramer’s favorite is mint. Its fun to know your bunny’s favorites!

So are they ACTUALLY chocolate?  If so, I am amazed that they would be sold for bunnies, as it chocolate can be toxic.    It could be that the chocolate is in a very  very low dose, but ultimately fresh fruits and herbs are really better for a bunny.  Sometimes some store treats are okay, but they should be fed sparingly, as many have such high concentration of sugar that they can lead to obesity and dangerous digestive issues (either short term or something that can develop over a longer period of time)

Out of curiosity, what is the treat exactly?  What brand, or can you find it on the net?  And what are the exact ingredients.

Chocolate is toxic for most mammals…but not people!  Most "chocolate" for pets, atleast what I’ve seen for dogs, is actually carob.

This is what I was thinking too.  Even then I would be hesitant on giving it to your bunny.  I dont give my dog carob either though.  Not much nutritional value even though I know he would love it.  He mooches enough snacks off of the kids anyhow lol

As for the bunn….as said before I would stick to fruits in small doses.  Miffy loves a craisin or two.

Cookie, you are right in can be fatal, but usually it’s in higher doses, or it can depend on the animal’s sensitivity level.

Brian used to appear from knowhere as soon as he heard the rustle of his milky/choc/yoghurt treats. The vet advised they are safe as long as they are ONLY a treat, and luckily Brian would have 2 and that would be enough for him. He’s not so fussed now and would much prefer a slice of carrot or apple, (and thank god for grapes!!, were it not for the reaction i got of those being wafted under his nose after his op’ 2 weeks ago, i would seriously have been worried about my poor boy!! 🙂 and as a special treat he gets a piece of pineapple or mango. Bettie is being weaned slowly onto her veggies and fresh foods and almost took my arm off yesterday as she charged as I gave her a bit of cabbage! Thoroughly enjoyed it she did – though I have a sneeking suspicion toilet training her is NOT going to be anywhere near as easy as it was with Brian….

see I saw these at the pet store and asked my usal girl what she thought of them and she said it was crap. In her words, Would you feed yourBunny MacDOnalds? this is there Macdonalds. But she said once or twice a month wont do any harm but there are other things like veggies and fruit which are better as a treat. I guess it depends on ur preference.

I doubt it’s made from real chocolate. But I got my rabbit around halloween, and when I was giving out butterfingers, he got into the extra bag and ate one. He does get into chocolate on occasion, and he must have a stomach of steel, because every time he has eaten chocolate, he’s been perfectly fine. No sloppy poops or anything. I wouldn’t get too horribly concerned unless you notice that it does upset his stomach or something.
