I remember that there are some other people on here in the Chicago area.

I was wondering if people would be interested in meeting up?  I’m not sure bunny play-dates are feasible, unless we all brought pens and met in a park or something.  But maybe we could get together for coffee or something, or a toy-shopping or even toy-building sessions?

All my friends are either cat folks or pet-free, and aside from online or at teh shelter I don’t know a lot of bunny people in person.

Is this something people might be interested in?  I live in Rogers Park right near the Jarvis red line station.

                  Close enough!

I posed because it’d be nice to hang out with other bunny peoples, and  meet other bunnies!   Mayeb meet up for coffee someplace, or a toy-making party or toy exchange?  I’m up in Rogers Park right by the lake and Fujoebunny is someplace in Lakeview, bu she’s really busy for a couple of more weeks with school stuff.

I got Pepper from the Red Door shelter and still go there to get my hay.  I also wanted to remind people about their upcoming spa day:

                  Spa Di Da Day!
                  12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Let Red Door Animal Shelter pamper your rabbits, cats, and guinea pigs celebrity-style at our fall Spa-Di-Da Day fund-raiser. Bring your pet in for nail trims, ear cleaning, massage and grooming. No appointments needed. All proceeds benefit the Red Door animals.
This Spa Day will feature the opportunity to get a professional portrait taken of your pet(s), and you can order holiday cards.

I still can’t manage to pick Pepper up yet, so I’m planning to take her in for a nail trim and also to let the volunteers see how well she is doing.

That rabbit spa day at the Red Door Shelter sounds like a great place for you Chicago Binky’ers to meet up!  If you gals decide to do that, let us know afterwards how it went!  I’m sure the bunnies will be soooooo thrilled that day. : )  But it’s good for them!  It’s a wonderful idea – good for the bunny and all for a good cause.

What time are you planning to go?  I was looking at turning up around noon.

I don’t have the price list with me, but I remember that a nail trim is $15, and grooming plus nail trim is $18.  You can also get ear cleaning, 5-min massages, glamour photos and X-mas cards, and they are having a veggie-eating contest with prizes for a $1 entry fee.

I still intend to go – around noon-ish, depending on how easy it is to get Pepper in her carrier.    Also, I’ve been down with Bronchitis all week so I might be a little slow.  I’m coming on either the 290 or 96 bus.

I’ll have my cellphone on me – 773-304-8972 – if you still want to meet up.  I will have the apple branches for Fujoe, as well as a big bag of Kaytee Timmy pellets that I’m donating now that my Oxbow order came in.

I’m a short plump chick w/glasses and reddish/brown curly hair.

Prolly won’t be entering Pepper in the salad-eating contest, unless they have a category for messiest eater!  But she needs a nail trim and a visit with all her old buds at the shelter.

                                          Back home!

Pepper and I took the bus over to the Red Door, and we were 3rd in line.  She was quite the little bunny-ambassador on the bus, as I was beseiged with questions.  I made a mental note to pick up some flyers from the shelter for when this happens again, so I can have something to hand to people who want to know about buns.

I didn’t really look around much, because I’m still very much under the weather from acute bronchitis this week, but there were a lot of bunnies coming in for nails and pictures, as well as a couple of cats.  The volunteers were all happy to see her and fussed over her while she waited her turn to go in the quiet back room for the actual trimming.  We watched the photographers working with the bunnies – the cutest pair of litte rex buns, one all black and one b/w spotted were climbing all over the set and generally amusing everyone with their antics.  I had a nice chat with another bunny-mom, and she told me about her experiences bonding her buns.  I have always thought that I’d like to get Pepper a friend come spring, once we’ve had more time to get to know each other, but I’m also worried.  She was very nice and encouraging.  Pepper was in there for quite a while – apparently she gave them some trouble with the back feet, which makes me even more glad I took her in.  Between inexperience and illness, I knew I wasn’t up to the job right now.

I left before the first hourly salad-eating contest, so I don;t know how that went.  There were about 7-8 bunnies waiting their turn when I left just before 1.  We had to wait for the bus for a bit, but all told she was in the carrier for 90 minutes or so, and took it like a trooper.  I gave her a raisin when I let her out and she’s now hanging out in her nice safe condo destressing.

Fujoe-mommy, since you weren’t there I donated the handful of apple twigs to the shelter buns.  I had also brought along some toys that Pepper was not impressed by as well as most of a bag of Kaytee Timmy pellets.  Now that I have her on Oxbow, I thought maybe some of the fosterers could use them.

I wished I had more energy to socialize with the other bunny people but I’m still glad I went.  For the Chicago folks who didn’t go, there is a Jewel/Osco Shop and Save thing going November 13-15, where if you have a little coupon thingie and then shop a percentage of your purchase will go to the Red Door Shelter.
Now back to bed for me…..

Sorry for my late reply!  Sounds like it was a real BunnyFest. Fun! Red Door Shelter sounds like they have a wonderful innovative group to inspire people to come.   Something to learn from!  I’m passing along their good ideas to the rabbit rescue here.  I love the Salad eating contest! How funny!

I am sorry you were dealing with bronchitis. I had that earlier this year and it lasted for so long!  It got so bad I had an inhaler.  Never needed that before for bronchitis, but I was pretty worn out, so I got pretty sick.

Bronchitis just makes you feel tired even when you are on the upside of the illness.

Hope you are back to full health by now.
