Hello I’m not a very new about taking care of bunny’s I’ve had my first two bunny’s for the past two years and they are little angles well most of the time when the aren’t chewing my wood trimming off my walls or chewing the paint off of them… I don’t know how to bunny proof this I’ve been trying FOREVER to make them stop but nothings working… and cause of this I have to cut their play time short because I can’t repair the wall so they’ve been getting about 2-3 hour play time per day… I know they need to be out longer but they simply won’t stop! Any suggestions on what I can do?? What has worked for you?

        Thanks lots

I guess you’ve tried rubbing vinegar or lemon on the walls?

Otherwise, the only way to stop them is to block off the sections that they’re chewing with some X-Pen bars. I find often if I block something off for a couple of weeks, once they’re allowed back near it they’ve forgotten their obsession with it and ignore it.

Have you tried rubbing a bar of soap on the walls? My little destructo bun stopped after I tried that, he’d barely even take a sniff!

The only thing that worked for Leopold was to put a NIC “fence” against the wall and then put large pieces of cardboard between the fence and the wall. This permanently shields the wall with something safe without having to actually attach to cardboard to the walls. I have the fence constructed in a way that it presses the cardboard firmly to the wall and I have some pieces of furniture (filing cabinets, actually) holding it in place so they can’t move it.

Have you tried general discouragement training? So hissing really loudly every time they do it, or lifting them up and turning them around each time they do it? This stopped Wick from going into the bathroom. You need to be consistent and make sure you’re accurately doing it when the behavior occurs or right before.

Haha, lifting Sam up and turning him around does nothing for me! He even bats my hand away with his paws in annoyance as if to say, hey, outta my way hoomin! He doesn’t respond to a loud clap either which I read somewhere… I will try the hiss! Mines recently become obsessed with one edge of my sofa bed even though he can’t quiiiite fit underneath it, so I imagine he’s trying to dig himself a burrow under there -sigh-

It can be a combination of persistence and effectiveness. In some cases, the annoyance could be a good training tool. Constantly doing it when they go to chew can further detail them because they realize it’s such an ordeal to try. I was very persistent with Wick and bathroom entering, so now if he does go in, I simply walk to him and he leaves with head shakes in annoyance.
